So new leaderboards~
Well, the matchmaking was so kittened up in the pairing process that I do not blame some people for having low win%.
When you get teamed up with bad people you can’t do much if you prefer going solo or stuff (even if i’ve seen some premade 4man teams fail hard for one random guys too)…while the leaderboard system should have granted us more fair matchups skill-wise on both sides.
I remember that for a few days it was like hell, lol. Constant losses for being teamed up with people that didn’t even know what to do…and I already was decently high in the leaderboard.
Braghez is correct. And I think we are past looking at win rates given the way the matchmaking is for solo people at the moment. The leaderboard is what it is.
When will they stop being about farming ranked and actually about skill/wins? I thought it was supposed to change this patch. Why even bother doing ranked atm unless you have no job/school/life and can commit whole day to do ranked?
The test season is over, as we said it would be. If any changes come, we will announce them before the start of another test season (if we have one).
I’m not sure why you expected anything different.

Yup. Feel free to ignore the leaderboard if you don’t like what it currently measures.
Instead, keep a thoughtful eye on the matches you play and score yourself for how much you think you contributed.
Ultimately, that’s what you have to learn to do, I think.
See a match as a series of situations and decisions to be made. Examine how well you handled each one. Measure yourself. See if you get better….regardless of the final score.

change to a division/league system. profit.
Old leaderboard – 99% skill 1% grind
- 0 reward
- ladder position = MMR = how good your matches were.
So for me only reasons to play good were fear of dropping MMR so i would not play with or against lower rated players
OR
trying to get close to the competitive players and trying my best to beat them. Its fun when i got lucky, but after a few games (offpeak hours, non optimal builds, simply being a medium player) i returned to my normal MMR range.
New leaderboard – 90% grind 9% team 1% skill
- test season is over, i admit most of us expected the real season and rewards to start coming
- we know that again means another month(s) of wait
- good work on all the disconnect issues
- new point scoring system is a failure
This makes any meanigfull upcoming rewards useless. It is bassically 2 unranked ques since you only want decent MMR to not play with baddies and nobody caring about actual ladder position.
Also the companys PR will probably not allow to remove a failed system as it would be admiting a mistake.
I think we all had something like 70/30 or 80/20 skill / grind ratios in mind. I do not know of any proposed idea that could fix this.

your leaderboard is just actually totaly broken u know ? Just one thing, does team who wins some esl or other tournament are in the top at the moment?
The answer is NO just no…. because this ladder is just a non sens based on game played even if u loose u grow in this ladder…
How can u pretent to be esport with this kind of farming ladder seriously, i’m realy sad to see the resuslt. There is no motivation to try to reach the top because it just mean the exact things as the rank (bunny, bear, drake) they don’t show the skill lvl of the player !
A good leaderboard is made to have an idea of the skill level of the players rigth ? At least every esport games have one like this. Just fun games from facebook have leaderboard that look like the one that we have at the moment.
So please, uprade it with a new calculating system (i think the last one was realy better and it was significative at top 200+ and just good player (those who we see in tournament u know ?)were at least in top 100.
Btw if u want a casual community or a no life one (but without any skills) for your esport in game vitrine it’s your choice… u will just sink.

Its ok guys, the “fight” is over, I dont think we ever had much of a voice in this regards, or perhaps we gave our voice too much “value” and we are just “too vocal” of a minority and in reality the vast majority of the people are fine with this.
I just really hope Anet’s way of “measuring” whether we are ok with this new leaderboard isnt just games played/times we checked the board logged in, because I for once do NOT like the new grindboard and I have been playing a LOT of PvP lately nonetheless (rmostly ranked because I didnt know I could do rated achievements on the other queue -_-’ )
I think this new grindboard was implemented to promote casuals to play more often even if they were doing poorly since effort (aka time spent PvPing) was being rewarded almost (if not more) than skills/improvements.
Maybe it worked, it had people farming for a spot (like I did, got to 232 only to decay to 290 a day later when there was a day left till season’s end, getting me nothing) and thus increased PvP players in a way, thats good on a short run, although those players will go back to PvE/dungeons/TP/Champions/AFKing in cities again.
If it did that then I thank the new players but can now safely ignore any form of skill measurements in the game, which for a PvP community can be devastating on the long run

I found it rather comical that botters and farmers were rewarded after all (dem under 50% winrates lol)~
Bravo~
Anet – Dumbing down pvp to make it pve heroes friendly since 2012
working as intended
The grindboard did not encourage me to play at all. Once I realized there is no way I could get to 250 with the amount of time I would need to play, I stopped qing for ranked.
It was an OK first try for a leaderboard, but I am really surprised no changes were introduced. Or new rewards, or season announced or anythng.
It didn’t encourage me, either. I spent much more time in unranked. I also noticed that my MMR seemed to be skewed much higher in ranked (no idea why this would be), as I was only gaining about +1 point for wins and losing multiple points for losses. Other guildies with worse w/l ratios that me scored more points for fewer wins, and lost little for losses. something just seemed “off”.
@Cynz.9437
So what you expect? Do you remember old one? Rank 1 was 12win 4 lose or 11 win 3 lose do you think this is fair?
Best thing is leaderboard now about gw2 PvP.. It’s working fine, top players only doing PvP with team or solo doesnt matter but some casual or unskilled players just talking. You can get top 100 only with 205 won. If you cant play 200 game how you thinking about to claim up on leaderboard?
There is really good PvP players, they are playing a lot and deserve it.

Sorry Justin. I know you all had good intentions, but it doesn’t seem to have panned out as well. I am still impressed that Lexi managed to put in 800 games in the span of 4 weeks.
All the old leaderboard system needed was placement matches, otherwise it seemed to be a good system. I enjoyed actually have to try to stay in top. Now i just mindlessly grind games with no worry that ill drop leaderboard position. If i get paired against premades or small group premades of 2,3,4 i just get 10 points and “bunk” home till the bullkitten ends.
Should mention i ended the season at like 76 or so, this did not feel rewarding and most of the games were terrible quality compared to old solo queue.

Only people that have played with or against obvious bots can tell, to some people they might just think this guy really likes going to one spot over and over spamming longbow.

It was an experiment. We learn, we grow, we continue. I believe we’re going to do a postmortem on the forum about it soon where we’ll share what we found.

I look forward to it.
The leader boards will never be about who’s the best. That’s obvious and it’s not a design fault. So long as it’s updated based on matches played it cannot rank everyone in order of their ability/skill, because it has to take into account the wide variety of player skill levels. This means pairing teams that have similar MMRs together, so for example, starting from rank 0, two teams with high MMR duke it out and the winners goes up 3 points, and another two teams with low MMR duke it out and the winners goes up 3 points, and those two teams with a significant difference in skill are now the same rank.
The only way it can ever reflect skill is if it takes MMR into consideration when ranking. That is, to either rank in order of MMR only, or to group players into tiers based on their MMR, and restrict how high they can go on the leader board until their MMR increases into the next tier. Both of these ANet will not do, because allowing players to see their MMR or how their skill has been calculated compared to others can create a hostile environment with personal attacks, raging at the system, and some feeling so negative and cheated about it that they may even quit.

I used to be for a grindy leaderboard. But this experiement has shown me that it doesn’t work. The leaderboard must be about primarily skill or nobody takes team queue seriously at all.

Please do. And please be honest with the playerbase about the lessons learned and especially the direction you want to take both the match making system and the leaderboards. Players can then decide whether they agree with said direction or not and act accordingly, instead of wasting their time hoping for changes that are never coming.
Two questions I’d appreciate answers to:
1) Will solos vs premades continue to be a thing
2) Will the leaderboard continue to represent mainly time invested
Thanks in advance.

But the skill measure MUST be fair. It can’t be your wins on weak PUGs against people on coordinated, experienced teams.

And the only pvp rewards that where exclusive to top players got handed out to them, destroying the only thing (even if it was not that good) that was prestigious.

How on earth can a leader board that measures individual players in a team game ever be accurate?
At least the solo q leader board and system was ALWAYS individual players so the measurements were more accurate but the decay was terrible
Let’s not act like the old system was flawless

Still better than this one rewarding reterds for farming and losing half of their matches…
