So those class balance philosophies.
I cant speak much for other classes, but Im pretty sure the philosophy of eles got gutted somewhere in the pipes to release.
They were sold as an very versatile class which would switch elements at the right moment to get good results. That it would be a high risk/high reward class. Strong spell caster, I remember specifically reading in the website (prerelease) that “able to take down a foe before they would even get to them” (paraphrasing there).
What did we end up with? A class stuck in water/arcana (60 of total trait points) that has to be constantly switching elements in order to be able to keep up with all classes which can do the same with only 1 weapon swap, having to bear with 15 secs element (weapon) swap and been forced to take arcane 30 in order to attain a respectable recharge time, at least 20 arcane point to be able to wear a weapon (blasting staff). Stuck with cantrips as they sole and only way of defense, with buffs they cant share and have 75-90 secs CD (longer than the engi/warrior/mesmers/warrior/thiev/necro/ranger counter parts which can be shared for the most part and usually at half the CD)
A foe will get to you with more than 50-70% of their health after you spent all your spells, forced to cast AoE on yourself to be able to damage people and having to go, once again, deep into water/arcane in order to survive, which, ironically, guts your damage as a whole.
Overall the class philosophy is null and got completely gutted before it even had a chance to develop. Sadly all devs do is increase numbers here and there but refuse to address the core issues with the class; dependency of water/arcane cantrips in oder to have the survavility other classes have innately built within their own mecahnics.
But it is ok, we are getting the gimmick conjures damage increased, that will fix ALL our problems…………

Proceeds to buff their heals, banners, and Berserker stance instead of something creative. Cause I know something creative could’ve been implemented.

good elementalists play warrior/guardian now, the rest are thief wanna be kamikazes that are a 1 trick pony that can be completely and totally avoided by 1 dodge or having 2 brain cells.
