So tired of the matchmaking system
And the pvp is more and more unplayable the more I continue to gain pvp levels. The more I play (and gain levels) the more I lose (the mornings).
I’m pretty sure that if i could reset me pvp level it would have been more equilibrated and fun.
people still die in dragon hunter traps in the beginning of the match, why im i getting teamed up with such people?
The match maker is teaming up high and low MMR players together because of the extremely low number of people playing this season. So it’s completely random match to match … you’ll have a couple higher players and lower on each team.
I’ve seen variances of up to 600 MMR between some of the players on a team. It’s ridiculous.
In essence, it’s far from what we saw in season 5 where for the most part teams were much closer in MMR (because many more people were playing), creating much better matches.
You guys on NA or EU and what division? I’ve been playing in Gold 1-2 and I can say, every time I check out the ranks of the other players, it’s just about always been a pretty even matchup. I still get a few games here and there that are just completely hopeless, either for my team or the enemy team, but that doesn’t seem to happen very often for me. Maybe I’m just really lucky?

The MMR variances tend to be much more pronounced as you go higher (1,400+). I’m sure they also exist below that but probably to a lesser degree.

The variances are pronounced at both the extremes. Skill (and thus rating) in playerbase is generally a bell curve. The vast bulk of players are in the middle with less in less players towards the extremes.
The farther you get away from the average the less players there are in your rating bracket and thus the more variances you get in matchups.
There are presumably super bad players (like 600 rating players) who can never get matches against equally bad players because there aren’t enough 600 rated players to get them a 600 rating match.
Also you can fix this problem with more players. If Anet magically quadrupled the queuing population. We’d just get threads complaining about 2200 rating players getting matched with 1900 rating players.

No this problem exists regardless of population. Skill is not equally distributed.
A larger population would just result in people complaining about 2300 players getting matched with 1900 rating players, rather than 1900 with 1500.
Look at Overwatch where even at the hight of it’s popularity it had problems with the high level players getting put in matches with not so high level players.

Lose/Lose matchmaking. Stomping new or not great players (of which I am one) probably isn’t too fun for people wanting an actual match and getting stomped by people clearly way better than you makes you not to want to play.

Agreed, I remember we had this problem in prior seasons with those complaints.
What’s the lesser of two evils though, MMR variances of 200-300 or 500-600? A 200-300 variance seems really nice compared to what we see now.

The numbers I was using where arbitrary picks. The variance would likely be same either way.

People complained about long queues, so system throws anything it can find in one match hence why matches are so wonky. It also doesn’t help that it doesn’t balance out teams – from my experience it works like this:
pool of 10, 10, 10, 8, 8, 8, 5, 4, 4, 4 players.
Player 10 queues up, the system looks for teammates in his range and forms team of 10, 10, 10, 8, 8.
Then it starts to look to form an enemy team so it takes whatever is left which is 8, 5, 4, 4, 4.
So we have 10, 10, 10, 8, 8 vs 8, 5, 4, 4, 4 – take a guess how those matches go. Yeah….
It has been more and more common because less and less players pvp due… to how wonky the system is.

Get to plat, that is where clownfiesta really starts to shine. You are only plat with couple gold teammates vs top 5s. This is my matches atm. Day ago i lost 50 points due matches like this, faced same top 5 duoq few times in a row while my teammates obviously got spawn farmed all match. What am i supposed to do? I am not good enough to solo team of top 5s but this is what i would need to do to win matches like this. It blows my mind that the system considered it a fair match (i got hefty rank point losses for those matches).

100% agree. No clue why Anet doesn’t mix and match the two teams that’s already picked. Instead matchmaking makes a team like the example above and says, “there you go!”.
Rank: Top 250 since Season 2
#5 best gerdien in wurld
Seems that the giver-uppers now are doing unranked instead of ranked..
Q: Can we seek good match in ranked or it’s still plagued by giver-upper?
The 5v5 conquest mode is made for teams organized of 5 peoples, not 5 pugs.
When a pug is afk or deco the game balance breaks and it’s why the 4 others just play for nothing, a lose (at 99.99%).
With 10 v 10 in big maps, an afk or deco will have much less impact and the other will still have the will to fight and play.

Quoted for truth.
MOBA ftw: people have no problem moving in a straight line and fighting enemies along their path. Perhaps if gws hadn’t been made for esl we could have had a different mode of pvp. Actually, a few 3v3 moba style maps, perhaps with two paths only, wouldn’t be a terrible idea. That and 1v1 tournaments every weekend.

nerf/change dragon hunters, some people will never learn to fight them
