So....what's going on in these tournaments?
In this thread: Feedback on the publicity of tournaments and my perspective on how it’s hard to follow them.
So, I love PvP. I work a full time job and don’t always get a ton of time to log in game, but every morning before I get ready for work, I jump in a few solo Q games. I enjoy learning more by reading up on the forums and searching for the best builds/strategies out there.
However, I’ve found it really hard to really follow any of the tournaments that ANet has been advertising. I don’t have the time to log into twitch and watch the entire thing and I don’t really see any summaries of what has happened or who has won anywhere. I can follow who some of the major players are from the various conversations on the forums between people that do have the time to watch this stuff, but finding out what builds are popular, who the major teams are, what strategies the players used to win all take a lot of digging through random forum QQ to find.
Maybe I’m missing out on some fan website that’s sprung up lately, but ever since IntoTheMists.com’s forums died, it’s hard to even find what builds the major players run (although props to Dante for putting up a good build list back in April). Is there anything else like this out there? Are there any good YouTube channels to follow that give summaries on the tournaments?
And for any devs reading this, is there any chance that we could get some sort of write-up on these tournaments outside of advertisements for people to join? I mean, even if you could have a pop-up in game saying that such-and-such won a tournament, similar to how Hall of Heroes is broadcasted in GW1, that would be great.
For builds you can visit http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki
I’m not sure about the rest, I think it would be a good idea if someone could write that up (summaries of games, the strategies used, and small snips about players).
Yea, I know where to find a summary of “meta” builds, but that’s not the Sam as knowing what was run in a tournament and what team comp it was used with..
Really though, I just wish I could at least find a highlight reel from the big games. I mean, if this supposed to be a move towards ESports, it would be nice to get some decent sports-like coverage.

Oh, there are all VODs recorded on the same page as the Live Stream that it was broadcasted on.

You can find most of the major games for NA and EU on these two channels. They include commentary on gameplay and player builds.
@OP:
I do agree that there needs to be more information on these tournaments. Look at it this way. Let’s say there is a baseball game last night. Tomorrow you wonder who won, but you can’t find the results anywhere.
That’s the current state of GW2 PvP. If ANET wants it to be an e-sport, they need to treat it like a sport.
Mistpedia has been around for a fairly long time and I try to keep it up to date as best I can unfortunately however I’m literally the only one that updates tournament information on it. Anyone is allowed to update stuff on it so long as they make an account. If I could get some other people to help out and pitch in it could be a fairly reliable resource but with just me it’s hard to keep up. :/
Were working on a revamp on the site which should launch soon. Kind of hoping that kicks up traffic again and encourages some people to jump in. This revamp should also make it easier for people to edit stuff if they don’t know the code needed to edit wiki articles.

That would make sense if pvp was taken seriously in GW2
@ Caed: I’ll check it out. Most of what I’ve seen so far, however, has been games in their entirety and while I appreciate their availability, I don’t often have time to watch many full games.
@ style: I think you worded what I was trying to say better than I did. =)
@ Blu: I haven’t came across Mistpedia before. I’ll definitely bookmark that and keep tabs on it and thanks for keeping this updated!
This is why they need to implement unlimited spectator mode.
They promised spectator mode wouldn’t be so small for long, its been a year and there hasn’t been any improvements at all.
It’d be a lot better if people could watch the match from the game itself and not on twitch.
You know what would be cool? If we had a message board in the middle of the mists (the same thing that lists shoutcasters/pax winners)
That could be updated with upcoming tournaments, and previous winners. TOL/WTS etc winners should pernamently be shown on the board, or a different statue. GO4 / ESL/ whathaveyou can have winners on the statue/board for, say, a month.
Put it like 10 yards in front of the portal in the mists. Anyone that enters the mists is bound to look at it.
Thanks for the feedback, OP.
I’ve written blogs to this effect in the past, and I actually have one slated for this upcoming Friday. I’ve been pretty busy lately, but I will try to do them more often.

Thanks Josh, I appreciate it.
@ Xista: Did I really deserve that snarky, sarcastic response for this thread? Anyways, the board doesn’t really mean much to me since it just has the names of the winners. It’s more of a trophy case than a scoreboard and certainly doesn’t contain highlights or any of the other details I mentioned in my previous posts.
Just noting that there doesn’t seem to be much interest for online – “journalists” to cover these events, why I’m not 100% sure, since I don’t know the motivation for doing it for other games, but I guess it doesn’t generate a lot of site visits?
I’m in the exact situation as OP.
I never know what tournament is happening or even who wins when it finish . . .
Maybe create a link in the main page?
Good points been brought up.
I would even like an ingame message like in gw1
The random guild has won the ESL tournament hosted today. (in green in chat).
For builds visit my twitch. I always keep an up to date list of all meta builds there.
