Solo Q MMR Basement
Everyone was initially at a middle point, as I understand it.
The idea of using rank as a help in separating the players who were a bit more likely to know what’s going on.
The matcher has no way of knowing how talented anyone is. All it knows is whether they tend to win or lose. It’s messy. because they are on a team that can skew the results and obscure a given player’s true ability.
Sure, maybe over time it will all work out.
But what if it takes 5000 matches to escape ELO hell if you get some bad teammates for the first 10 matches? Why should some players, particularly those who do not start SoloQ on the first day, have to be at such a disadvantage?

Ya, that could have been the case. Either way, having a starting point where all of the high ranks are mixed with the low ranks is an odd way to do things because of the extreme luck that goes into getting good matchups at the bottom
Similar to ELO Hell in LoL. Except, really, you start off in ELO Hell in this game.
Maybe paying a 30-day fee of 400 gems or so could be required to enter an “Advanced SoloQ”.
Or, perhaps you could pay to reset your MMR to middle point once every few weeks.

EDIT: OR you could scratch all of that and just have Tiers that are called “rabbit, Dolyak, etc” You start in that tier based on your glory rank. If you are not as good as your rank, you’ll get dropped down to the teir below, likewise if you are a rabbit but keep stomping rabbits. You then only play the people that are in, or near, your tier.
Thank you
The pvp playerbase is too small to support different queues.
Frankly, I wish they would go back to the seemingly random match making you experienced when you solo queued in tpvp. Sure, there were horrible matches when your pug faced an organized team. But at least the quality of players in my pugs seemed much higher. Since the introduction of solo queue, I have run into 4 players that I actually recognize. Until I can get my win % up, I am stuck with the r6 mesmer in his no-dmg-dies-alot spec and the afk warrior chilling at spawn. I’d trade both of them for an additional ranger pet that would actually contribute to the match.
If you have to go afk, at least stand on a point. You can even dance on it.
Being 100% frank, this is an awful idea. I was killing people r30 when I was r10-20 in tpvp because of my experience in wvw. I know other people just like that as well. I’ve solo queued with two rank 10-12 people that domminated a 30+ solo queue 500-250. Let the matchmaking system do its job.
