What was it you guys said? Chance of encountering full premade team while solo queing will be extremely low?
Last 5 games i played:
- Enemy team: full premade, everyone r40-50.
- My team: 1-2 r40+, 2x r1-15. (I rarely even get 5 people in team lol)
Flawless matchmaking. Simply flawless.
Chances of me believing anything devs say in forseeable future are extremely low.
Anyone else has these problems? Or is my rank just driven too high by winning streak earlier?
Rerroll’s poll for implementing real solo/duo que, separate from premades:

At least you had full team, we were 4 against premade team.
probably a combination of
low population
ur personal rating
and ofc mixed queues
Problem is that you ineviatebly get against a full premade team if no one was found in lower brackets ( e.g. duos or trios ).
Best would be to copy what Riot does. Only allow to apply as duo for SoloQ .
Same goes for matchmaking, seperate the brackets.

Just edited that. Most of the time only getting 4 people. Hell, couple times I only had 3.

This!
And option to play only one match, that way everyone can just join in, not having to wait for 8 teams.
In my last 2 hours i havent had a single 5v5 game.
Its always 5vs4. And i have yet to be on the 5man ‘free win’ team.
Also it seems 50% of the games are vs full guild premade…
I was hoping the solo queue would give an incentive to pvp more as hotjoin is just an aoe zerg fest but seems no…
If you win a lot games against other solo queue teams, then it’s more likely you will be matched up against premades who also have higher rating simply because they are a team.
We really need a separated system. We are so close to what we need, and yet so far away from it at the same time.
I think I’m just gonna farm glory in hotjoins till r50/I find a team/Anet fixes matchmaking. 160k rank points I’m missing will probably be the fastest one to achieve.
Hopefully by then teams like Crs, CN, EV etc would move up high enough so I don’t need to face them with a bunch of r10s as teammates.
I’m flashing back to when matchmaking was first implemented in HoN…or any game for that matter…
Ratings were reset with the patch, when we split the ratings for 3 round and 1 round tournaments. So as people play more games they’ll start to settle again.
I don’t know how I can even build my rating for 3 round tournments the wait is intolerable most of the time. It took about 15-20 minutes to get one to pop last night in prime time. When you can get a 1 round tournament every 1 minute the vast majority of people aren’t even going to do the 3 round.

Hey Tyler, thanks for dropping by.
Problem is, many people will not play more games, they won’t play any games, exactly because of 3v5/4v5 and getting matched vs high lv teams with a bunch of new players.
What’s with those 4v5 rosters anyway? I can understand a leaver now and then, but not in 90% of matches.
So as people play more games they’ll start to settle again.
Basically it sounds like Anet is saying let the premade teams destroy your rating until you are so low that you will be less likely to face them.
Solo queue = low rated players without teams. If at any point you start to win you will again be matched against pre-mades until you are knocked back down.
Its IMPOSSIBLE to achieve a high rank as a solo player, which defeats the entire point of having rating for solo players in the first place.

The best statement i´ve seen all the day
The point is to have competitive matches. If you are so good that you beat every other solo group. Then yeah you should have at least a reasonable shot at beating the lower tier premades.
The problem is being a solo team fighting a premade team is a very frustrating experience, win or lose. Regardless if we stand a chance at winning, it’s a very different game experience that isn’t nearly as enjoyable as it would be against other solo teams even if we have to wait a little longer to get a match.

at this point none of us even know if your rating/matchmaking system is even working which reinforces the fact that you’ve decided to have an invisible rating system, cause it probably doesnt work
oh and you also just basically quoted jacobin but used different wording…

You should split up Groupqueue and Soloqueue.
There should be no way, to merge these groups together in 1 map.
5ppl group should play against 5ppl group.
We of course understand that solo players would prefer a separate queue from premade teams, and it isn’t off the table as a future improvement. The trade off here, besides the extra development time, is that high rated solo queuers would get a better experience (never facing premades), at the expense of all team queuers getting a worse experience (longer queue times)
Tyler, who could I reach out to in regards to Warrior changes?
Specifically utilities and builds that are not feasible in today’s PvP environment.
Ex. Banners.
sooooo in other words if you dont have a team anymore because they all left due to lack of:
rating
ladder
bad class balance
lack of game modes
spectator mode
then we’re stuck solo queuing against premades… great. see you all in smite/LoL solo queuers

I am a “top tier” player. I would rather queue with a team than solo. But you have already killed 90% of our population and there are currently no top teams on NA. When you can pug and 500-100 every team without even trying to play the game then there is an issue with your system. The game has become repetitive, boring, and completely lacking any form of competition and structure. The reason that people want solo queue is to increase the population and grow the game. But when you consistently face premades as a solo player you will quit (check your dwindling numbers). I guarantee teams will not mind the extra times in queue waiting to play an actual game instead of alt tabbing for 80% of it. I’m not about to quit because I have to face premades as a solo queue player, but the opposite. Fighting pugs as a team is a waste of time, isn’t fun for either side, and doesn’t promote growth of skill or the game as a whole.
You guys dropped the ball, and are refusing to admit it. Clean up your act and pick up the pieces or continue on your path with a failing game.
at the expense of all team queuers getting a worse experience (longer queue times)
You said that wrong, you meant: better experience (no bashing of solo teams anymore). In the beginning it’s fun but after bashing 10 solo teams no one will like it anymore. Why you are so ignorant -.- Do you even play the game You’re making me truly sad
edit: i totally agree with Siric

This boils down to a quite easy quality over quanity debate.
Any serious 5 man team is not going to enjoy mindlessly crushing pugs, its the same reason there was a huge issue with free only tournys to start with. In many ways a 5 man team getting matched up with a PUG is worse than not getting matched up at all as you are pulled out of the queue so you miss a chance to play against other 5 man teams. These other 5 man teams can then be matched up against other PUGs meaning they are not in the queue when you requeue.
From the PUGs perspective it isn’t any fun losing rating for fighting a premade you honestly didn’t have a chance against (unless the MMR compensation for pugs is DRASTIC).
It just doesn’t justify the downsides at all, both sets of players come out worse off than if there were two queues.

danke
Hi Tyler when do you expect to hot fix 5v4 matching so solo players stop quitting the game?
Siric is absolutely correct.
I fail to see how this is an improvement over the single team paid matches format.
Solo queuers will be gone in a few weeks since they will never have anything more than a ‘reasonable shot at beating a low tier team’ in terms of competitive matches.
Pre-made teams are back to month 1 and 2 where actual matches between 2 equally skilled teams are a rare occurrence since most of the time they will be play a pug-premade mix to keep queue time low.
I think now is the point where we have to accept that the population is simply to low to sustain any sort of legitimate competitive format.

I guess I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m at least of the opinion that team queues don’t want to play against solo queue players either. I understand queue times would be more of a problem though. I just think that cost is worth it, because with a solo queue that brings in more players the team queue population would grow as well.
The point is to have competitive matches. If you are so good that you beat every other solo group. Then yeah you should have at least a reasonable shot at beating the lower tier premades.
You wanna test that theory of yours? I’ll go ahead and grab some rank20s that are all on builds that they’ve been given from myself and my team (believe me, plenty of these premades are getting their builds from the toptiers copypaste style), put them all on ts while mixing you up with a group of r20rs that don’t have a team composition at all or any preset roles or anything similiar to that and then telling you to carry?
I’ve been in situations like that and those games are hardly easy to carry. Do you think one strong player will make up for four weak unsynced notonts players in a major teamfight? Obviously not, not unless I’m on teamspeak with them calling important stuff. So what is your solution? Splitting and 1v1ing their point defender? If you know anything in this meta at all you know that the standard solution to someone 1v1ing your point is to call the thief to your close point.
You guys have a severe lack of understanding if you think it’s easy to carry randoms vs premades in a game like this. This isnt league of legends, I can’t outplay the top laner to the massive extent where I get fed and 1v2 the top laner and the jungler. This is a game without snowballing.
You guys seriously took the normal game mode of league of legends, the least form of competitive play in league and made that your serious matchmaking mode.
zz.

What extra development time?! THE SYSTEM IS IN PLACE! It’s not hard to solve this puzzle, I’ll give you the pieces:
You have two separate tourny ques at this moment. One for 3 round and one for 1 round. In a blog post you guys said that they had separate matchmaking. Paid tournaments previously demonstrated that you guys have the ’’feature’’ in place to force someone to be 5 premade players to que in to the match. You also now have a ‘’join solo’’ button.
If you piece these pieces together you get:
1.Make one tournament que ‘’join solo’’ only, 1 round
2. Make the other que ‘’submit roster’’ with 5 only , 1 round
LE VOILA!
It’s okay, we can scrap the idea of duoq for now. Put that in your ’’soon’’ basket. You can do the same for the random map generator, just keep rotating maps manually the way you guys do every 2 days or something.
There. That is the solution that will allow solo players to play the game without getting stomped by teams.

Excuse me? It isn’t “off the table”? You should be telling us that it’s on the table right now and work is being done on it. It is not just solo players that want their own queue, no self-respecting premade team wants to be matched against solo players either.
You are stunting the growth of the pvp scene if you have a system where the highest level of gameplay a solo player can attain is a place where you are endlessly stomped back down by the weakest of premades. New players want to know they can come and pvp without being constrained by the effort of finding 4 like-minded friends, yet still be recognised and rewarded if they get to the top (which is one of the main reasons that we need to SEE our rating, and not simply hope that your obscure matchmaking system is working correctly; I would be amazed if anyone has that level of faith in the game right now).
As for your remark about the trade-off between “happier solo queuers” and “longer queue times”, surely you cannot be serious? Would you rather wait 10 minutes for a satisfying meal or be instantly served a steaming kitten on a plate? (I sugar-coated that as much as possible).
The community, whole of it, is claiming for soloqueue. Everyone is asking for the same. Maybe devs should seriously think about implementing it.
Just make 3 round or 1 round tournaments only-joinable as an individual, they already have a different rating so i cant see the problem of implementation.
Hi, Tyler,
Thanks for taking you time to reach out to community.
As Defektive, I would like to ask, who can I try talking to regarding the necromancer.
In particular, recent patch introduced a change to our DS mechanic that now forbids us from swapping weapons inside it. There has been no official word about it, even though I tried to get a response.
Once again thanks for talking to us, we appreciate that.
could you please stop people below rank 15 or sth from joining into tournament games? They have no idea how the game works. Force them to coolect some experience in hotjoin before they mess my team every single game.
And the issue is not that you have to do this to reduce q time, qtimes would be better if you would make pvp fun so more people play it.
Maybe something more than glasscanon and toughnes/condi

that’s just not possible. You can’t just separate them from the rest. They must have an entrance to the game. But if there’s a matchmaking system this should be no problem in future.

So in this suggestion, people would only play as a team of 5 or by themselves. That would mean effectively disabling tournaments for people who want to play tournaments with a friend. Or two friends, or three friends, but don’t have a full team. I can’t imagine that would go over very well either.

You can’t appease everybody.
I mean we do appreciate the game right now for the most part. It’s just we are so close to what we at least perceive to be what we all want. It’s frustrating when you guys don’t seem to understand from our point of view.
We want a solo/duo queue system and a team queue system. The faster the better. Eventually we want rankings and such too and much more, but we realize that takes time. As of right now it appears to us at least that you have most if not all of the technology in place to create a system that is much desired and closer to what we want then what is out there currently.
I mean, optimally yes. We do want a solo & duo queue combined like it is in League of Legends. But in the short term, I think many of us are more then willing to have just solo queue and team queue for now. Maybe even just the confirmation of the idea that we would move towards solo/duo queue and team queue instead would be enough for now, but as it stands the system right now is frustrating as you climb in rank only to play against plenty of premades.

Which is the majority of players. Teams of 3 or 4 must represent a 5% and they can always find 1 guy in the mists chat! They will also be motivated to create a full team and practice!

your argument is invalid.
if you want to play with some friends. go hotjoin(5v5 ofc)
I also think it’s possible to find 1 or 2 players by using friendlist, mist chat, guild list etc.
and yeah synco! that’s the only thing you must be aware of! Or is that the reason why?
(edited by Hunting.6527)
As it stands, Hotjoin is technically an option to play with a non-standard amount of teammates as well. This is something I do all the time, taking 6-7 of my friends/guildies in to a game and just murder each other. Hotjoin (aka Normals), Solo/Duo, and Team Queue is a system that has been tested before in League of Legends and been successful. I see no reason why it wouldn’t be as successful in here, because I at least love to play every day in PvP. If I had something to fight for, even if it’s an invisible rating that eventually turned into a ranking system, it’d be even more awesome.
Hotjoin w/ Custom Servers, Solo/Duo Ranked, and Team Queue Ranked I think is what would be eventually what we want in the end. We are so close to some form of solo and team queue separation though, and we want it badly. Playing alone right now is frustrating when we fight premades, and honestly I just prefer to go and do other things such as Hotjoin or WvW. Which is silly, because I think I’d truly enjoy doing tPvP solo/duo queue the most.

While this is definitely true as I often play with friends but can’t gather full groups, I’ll concede the fact that solo queue is necessary for growing the community, as the majority of players who jump in don’t have friends to play with on a regular basis. Separating solo and team queues is necessary for providing a environment where new players don’t feel cheated regardless of how necessary it feels to join the queues now. More players will join in if they feel they have a chance.
When I ran with premades in PvP last month when it was full team only, the queue was very quick and the fights were always good. It won’t be bad as you guys think for splitting up the queues. Worry about adding duo queue later.
Also some of you other posters here need to chill out. The frustration is understandable but you aren’t anyone here favors pushing these devs from saying anything because the first time their open up your mouths you guys nerd rage. I realize people like Narcarsis, and Oni play on a consistent basis so its especially annoying, but your the main line to these kitten devs. Be cordial, and invite them to talk as individuals.

Of course it isn’t ideal, you guys dropped the ball on that half a year ago when you decided to instead of having a proper and normal system you wanted to go all hipster on us with your paid tournaments. But at least this way people will be able to be COMPETITIVE in the game without needing a team.
I mean the ideal scenario would be this:
1. One casual que, invisible elo at most where you could invite any number of people with the mmr you guys have, essentially the que you guys currently play with.
2.. one rated solo que, visible rating where you could max invite one person with only people matching here
3. one rated team que, team only. Preferably the team has their own rating based on the teams actual achievements.
You know, like a proper system is supposed to be.
But the system I suggested will bring back HUNDREDS of players. I’ve been here since beta and I’ve been in the competitive scene since release. If you knew all the players I knew that quit because they couldn’t tryhard one bit because they didn’t have a team then you would have INSTANTLY made this change. It’ll be good enough, it’ll show that you guys are taking the steps required to making this game good. It’ll also restore the faith of countless players that will actually see you guys admitting that you’ve done a mistake (because that’s exactly what you’ve done with both this soloq and paid tournies) and that you’re improving.
Make Helseth proud now.

The point is to have competitive matches. If you are so good that you beat every other solo group. Then yeah you should have at least a reasonable shot at beating the lower tier premades.
That means u think that once ratings have settled, soloqers will be in a “low tier” and teamplayers in a “high tier” with a little zone of overlapping? That seems to be severly flawed, cause it would only work if teamplayers ONLY play with their team and soloqers ONLY play solo. If u have someone usually playing with his team doing some matches alone cause his team isnt complete or they take a timeout his rating will be so high at first that he gets matches withprmades till it finally settles in the low tier. When enough people of his team do that their average rating will drop in the “low tier” so when they finally play as a team once again….they face soloqers.
How can u not see that this System is completly flawed? The thing is that ur capabilitys of winning will fluctuate very much if u alternate between solo and teamplay, cause of composition, ts-coordination, overall gameplan and soforth. Hence ur rating will never be able to stabilize. I just dont get how this System made it live.

I’m sorry, but it really only take one person less than an hour of joining solo to realize how broken this is. Now I realize that developers are insanely busy. I get that. Take one hour over ur lunchbreak next week and try to solo join in your new system. after one hour rank the fun level from 1-10. If you are above 3 I will eat my boots. Its horrendous. I have been trying my hardest to get into pvp in this game. Without a team, or already being rank 40 it’s impossible. I had such high hopes for solo queue being my ticket in. I’m sorry, but you’ve failed.

That is the solution that will allow solo players to play the game without getting stomped by teams.
So in this suggestion, people would only play as a team of 5 or by themselves. That would mean effectively disabling tournaments for people who want to play tournaments with a friend. Or two friends, or three friends, but don’t have a full team. I can’t imagine that would go over very well either.
BTW I appreciate the time you spent today talking to us.
