I read a great article about the anti-trolling efforts and legit scientific research LoL did. (They actually hired real scientists, not like “game consultants” or whatever.) I don’t know why Anet doesn’t seem to care, apparently LoL had MASSIVE success with their efforts, and have been publishing them in science journals. If anyone cares I’ll try to dig up the article, it’s from one of my favorite science blogs.
Part of it involved using players to quickly act as a jury for offending players so they got immediate feedback. I.e. call someone a racist name, get reported, 20 players receive alerts to judge you, all of them see you being a jerk, you get an immediate ban and an explanation.
I’m all for it. I don’t care about name calling in the lobby, but people that don’t try during matches are the worst. Immediate and consistent consequences are the best way to address behavior issues.
Fluffball, do you have a link to that article btw? I’d love to read it.

Edit: The article opens with a word banned on these forums, hopefully since this is one of the premier science journals in the world the mods will let that slide.
This is awesome thank you!
@Fluffball
You do realize that hiring real scientists to conduct research on your game requires a lot of cash, right? Anet would gladly do the same thing if the firm had the resources to do it.

Er… I don’t think you read the article:
…Riot talks about its data at gaming conferences, and when it collaborates with researchers there are few restrictions on publishing. It also has an outreach programme, visiting universities to establish collaborations. And last May, Lin presented data at the annual meeting of the Association for Psychological Science in New York City to drum up more interest.
