SoloQ mentality. I can't handle it anymore.
It’s not you, it’s the whole system. I dropped about 300 ranks (from 170 or so) because I just had bad luck with the enemy teams I faced. The worst thing is that you keep dropping and dropping because the top solo queue players play in one and the same team (hello, weird matchmaking) which I found to be very frustrating. It’s not that the people I played with were bad. It’s just that people on the top have a better understanding of the game (which is why they’re at the top, after all). So you’re at a big disadvantage when you start the game. But it gets even harder to play against them because those at the top probably know each other already. So they go TS and communicate. You and your team can’t do that. New players who want to start out playing competetively have almost zero chance to climb the leaderboards, they get discouraged and stop playing, like I did. The gap between new pvp-ers and the already existing teams is enormous, so I hoped that solo queue will help to close that gap a bit, but I feel like the opposite happens. Just don’t take solo queue too seriously, you’ll just end up raging all the time.

Sync queues holding em back, otherwise we would all understand the power of the mantracondimesmer.
Ehm. People do not really care about having good team-support.
They want to feel strong by winning a lot of 1v1’s, and you do not do that by using portal, you do that by spamming condis and going invis.

Solo Q is casual.
You can add those bad mesmers to your friends list and wait until they are in a match to queue up again. If after the match you immediately re-queue chances are they did the same and will be paired with you again.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
The thing is this is not the happening to me for the first time. Just last time, there was a rank 51 guardian who went afk just because someone told him to go bunker. He said I don’t play with forum kids or something like that. I mean seriously, how am I going to rank up on the leaderboard if I have to constently get narrowminded people in the same team? It’s unbearable.
How can you be that selfish?
You should ask that question to yourself.

Yes, but thank you. I make sure I reroll the right profession before the match. In fact, I’ll make everything to bring the team to victory. Now the question is, why other people don’t?
the reason why mesmers sometimes refuse to bring prtal is, because yeah they have to give up a utility that either helps cleansing conditions or something that helps them to survive.nullfield is a thing i bring and help the whole team with it, but if u wanna shatter u might wanna bring blink and decoy and mirror images. so yeah u gotta remember we are not your veil and portal bots, we need to survive aswell and with the stunlock, condi meta atm it is quite hard for a mesmer to suvive without certain utilities!
i think the one being selfish is u here, as u ask us to give up survival, because u wand a portal or veil from us….play a mesmer yourself then and see how it make u feel when others wanna use u as an extra utility slot for themselves.
how would u feel if iwas telling u. stay out of the fight we need your portal when i tell u to and then we stack and u drop veil and then get out of combat? seriously who are u to tell another class what build to be and what utility to bring?

Solo Q is casual.
Guild Wars 2 is casual.
If you really want to see co-operation on builds build a full team.
Trying to get people to change play style and build types in SoloQ is rarely going to work.
I am not trying to be a jerk about it, it is just not the best place to bring your higher expectations. There are too many random people.
I am one of those people you probably would not like. I play the builds I like and the builds I am good at. I don’t enjoy being a bunker build or being a condition build, I don’t have fun playing those styles.
People care about rank that means nothing? I guess you should prove you are best and make a team and then come back to forums crying about something else.
Just a second, I have to take away my 10K heal on a 8s cooldown, 8s of stability on 20s cooldown and 6 condition cleansers on 16s cooldown.
Because this all sucks.

I’d say there are two sides of the same story here.
You want your team to reroll OP/Meta build so you have a better chance at winning. But reality is that not all of us want to join the meta-wagon, and play whatever we feel like. If you want to assure that your teammates are running meta-builds that you think of as superior, then you should get a team.
In solo-q people will be testing builds and playing whatever they feel like.
That said; A lot of people want the highest chance of winning they can get, especially if they are bad players. So they pick whatever class with the best risk/reward ratio, which is atm Necro, Ranger and Engi.
Another factor is that for people to feel useful, it’s important for them to win some 1v1’s, therefore a lot of people try to avoid too supportive builds.
Just take a look at MOBA games. There is always 3 carries in every single game.
And 3 AWP’ers in CS.
People want to feel like they are carrying the team, making a difference. That’s just how it is.

The problem is, certain specs are just “fast-food”. This is not restricted to the mesmer, every class has builds, that’s are just not viable.
Those people should play what they want, but in return, they should not expect to climb up the leaderboard.
The problem is, that once you are climbing up the leaderboard, you are going to face those people, but once you are up, those people won’t be a problem anymore.

For build testing you have Hot-Join.

Don’t forget warrior. Yes, it’s also true to mention, that playing a strong profession does not mean you can play one of those.
Personally I have already been asked some times, if I don’t want to switch off my mesmer. But I hope ArenaNet realize that mesmer and ele are atm the weakest professions, and accordingly adjust it.
@OP: Last role of the mesmer was a team fighter / team supporter. He is not a close defender any more. Do you really think there is space for an offensive portal play in soloQ? Personally I prefer to run Nullfield and Decoy for survival ability and Mirrorimages for damage.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
I never had any problems like that in solo queue (however, I was never ranked worse than 400 or so on ladder). I’ve never seen a complete newbie in my game, I’ve never seen anyone complaining about Skyhammer.
What I did see was people actually playing as a team and trying really hard to win. I did see a lot of syncers but no one complained about them, everyone always gives their best to beat them, and it works sometimes. So my suggestion is: play better and get to higher position on the ladder where the games are actually enjoyable.
You don’t see people running crap builds within the top 200 or so of the leaderboard. Both sides of this argument should take a minute to think about why that is.

My mentality with all team-based games is that you do your best to be of use to the team. Some games it’s not a big deal if one guy goofs off, like 64 man BF3. GW2 however, if you decided to run a terrible build just because “you want to play the way you want” means you are ruining the enjoyment of other people who are depending on you to do your best.
I’m a big supporter of individuality, but that doesn’t give you the right to screw others over. There’s a big difference between being an individual and being self centered. You may not enjoy the meta but if you’re hurting the team because you’re running a poor build then to me that’s not OK. When you join a team game you basically agree to work for the benefit of said team. If you want to goof off and have fun there’s hotjoin for that.
Don’t take this as me bashing on you, just stating my views on the subject and venting a bit of frustration with some players mindset.
Old Man Burr (War), Bad Hat Ben (Engi), Manly Manny Manson (Guard)
“I lose, let’s blame everyone else but me”… That really doesn’t work you know. Also people are free to pick whatever build they want to pick, cooperation is still a viable thing eventhough they dont build for “support”..
@BurrTheKing
There is a big difference in screwing your team, and playing a build that is not considered meta. I would much rather have a team consisting of 5 very good players that all use semi-viable builds, rather than 5 kittens spamming marks and spirits.
Core issue here is that people equal a high rank with being skilled, in gw2 this is not the case atm, becasue the gap between the skill-floor and the skill-ceiling is incredibly small.

You cant expect mesmers to run portal and illusion agaisnt a gazzilion necros and sp rangers. They need their defence or they ll be dead most of the time.
Also i dont get what is this soloq mentality you are talking about?
Why cant i run whatever i want in soloq? I didnt see any sign saying only meta builds are allowed. I can only promise you that i ll play my best and i hope thats enough..isnt it? Or else lets all log on to our sp rangers and spam 1 ..so much fun right?

I don’t know about you, but last night, I faced teams with more thiefs, warrior and mesmers than the “meta professions” you are talking about. The mesmers team that ended up winning always RUNNED MOA and PORTAL. Obviously I’m going to suggest some mesmers to run portal or illusion of life when I end up winning my 6th match with lady (forgot the second name) who happens to run portal. Coincidence?
Also, spirit ranger and warriors might be the most popular build atm, but during that night, I faced more thief, and warrior, and mesmer than any other professions. You people need to stop assuming everyone queue into the same “meta” triple ranger/necro teams which isn’t even good anymore ,since the raise of the warrior, over and over again.
