"Solving" passive combat issue
it should have been like this since 3 years ago during the first beta weekends but they forgot to implement it.
just like the traits icons.
it took them almost 3 years to come up with the trait icons.
we got roman numerals for 2 and a half years.
Not to mention TEMPLATES! real GUILD VS GUILD sieges!
And everything that GW1 has, that for some reason we wont get in GW2…

The irony of old mmo’s being much better than new ones… it feels the mmo genra is droppign in quallity and just caring about “pretend to be better” with alot of placebo mechanics.
As much as we hope for it I’m sure they won’t do any of this. For one reason:
Casuals.
They can hardly handle 10 skills and their f abilities, they could obviously not handle the old trait system or explore anything without it being smashed in their face by 8568 shiny boxes overflowing their screen.
And if we know one thing for sure it is that gw2 will never become “complex” or “difficult” to play.
Their goal is to make it that easy that even your monkeys could use it as a way to pass their time and they can get more money out of sales.
Hell even someone suffering from tourette, smashing the buttons without any control would be able to beat the “challenges” this game offers. (no personal offense)
Enjoy the complexity we have… While you still can.
All we wanted was a GvG.
@Entenkommando.5208, unfortunately that is also my opinion.
PlaceboWars2
Yes sure, they add “more challenging content” in hots for casuals? Problem with ANet is that they dont rly try… They dont rly test… As long as something seems fine it wont be changed… They wanted to make hard world bosses, every world boss has “easy way” to kill it, like boxes on golem. For god sake i remember in 1st bwe in this game was “inspect” button im ALMOST sure that im not wrong, they scrapped idea cuz ppl would see other builds, and After some long time they made so in Practice you can spect everyone build. Templates rly shouldnt be so hard to make but they dont even CONSIDER making it. Compared to gw1 gw2 offers almost no “create your own playstyle” in pvp. Unless you play the way according to meta you wont be able to tank nor deal enough dmg compared to other builds. I remember when i started playing this game, i tought that if i find my own playstyle and be rly good at it i will be revarded. What i got were kicks in dungs cuz “not meta build” flame in pvp cuz “not meta build/not working anymore” not working correctly spells, kittenton of ninjapatches that break game for 2/3 days. 2 Years of totaly ignoring pve 2 years of kittenting on pvp by devs(DUUUMBFIREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE). What we get now is that ANet is pumping cash into ESL without balancing kitten, pve is repetitive as kitten and dont even get me started on zergwars in wvw. For some reason im still playing and rly i hope there will be a day that i will log in, get on my “working” s/d thief and start rolling vs ppl with same skill lvl not just idiot build that kills everyone on sight. What i want is OPTIONS, Beeing free to chose my own way without beeing flamed cuz its not “optimal way” every way should be OPTIMAL, EVERY build should have strengths and weakneses. Tell me why after playing like 2 years as s/d thief i must roll now Mesmer cuz it deals better dmg has better survi and does EVERYTHING better than thief. Where the kitten is balance team.

Uh… while you’re entitled to your rant I will say one thing:
Not every build should be “optimal”. Certain traits synergize better with each other and with particular skills and weapons than others. And that’s the way it should be to allow complexity and experimentation to the game, to mix and match weapons and traitlines to find what works for you.
For example, months before this re-worked system I was pvping with GS/Hammer on Warrior, even though it wasn’t meta. I did really well with it because people weren’t used to it, they expected me to hambow or shoutbow. Now a ton of Warriors play it due to the rework, a lot of people have figured out how to counter it (somewhat) and its harder to play.
As far as options go, GW2 has plenty for each class with the different weapons and traitlines. The fact that some are more suited to some aspects of the game than others is not a design flaw, its obvious and logical.
Would be nice to se every passive trait of the opponent when targeting him.
All in all, I think that listing the passive effects are more casual friendly too. Right now, you need to know by heart every passive of every build in order to know what are you playing against and adapt your gameplay. If you casually play PvP, you will just die cause passives without understanding whats going on, while also managing your cds worse cause you cant trust your own passives cause you cant track them properly
