Spectator Mode Solo/Team Matches
The argument against this was always the possibility to abuse the system.
Just imagine a 6th Team member in TeamQ observing every stop of the oposing team via spectator and telling his team via Teamspeak.
In gw1 it had a delay, so it can’t be abused like that.

This is true, and this is what I forgot to add.
pls gives us spectator mode on the game that promotes good game play.

We can’t support GW1 style observer mode and recordings yet due to the fact we use Havok. The simulations are not deterministic so we have to figure out a way around that first. Basically, its way harder to do in GW2 than GW1.

If you make it possible we’ll each send you a batch of cookies – that’s a lot of cookies!

Do you know any e-sport without a spectator mode like the OP ask for? I don’t. Look SC, SC2, Dota, lol, CS:GO,…

What’s the big difference between observing in hotjoin and observing in team queue?

In hotjoin you’re not observing, you’re in the server in real time.
If you could be in a tpvp match in real time with access to all player visibility you could relay that information to a team and give them an edge. Which is why these things are normally on a time delay. Which is where the technical problem arises.
Is the problem based on not having enough resources for the traffic or sth deeper?
From wht i heard havok is mainly used for ego shooter games, some of those i know have the feature to watch the last recorded match and let you replay it till it gets overwritten by the next one. If you lack server ressources you could get rid of hotjoin which brings more people in solo and teamq and then use the gained resources for some record function where you can spectate ur last match and some teamq matches of the top teams, but i’m not working in the industry.
Wow, so the reason we can’t have spectator mode like in ge1 is because the system can’t support it in a way that could be implemented at some point in the past 6 years of development?
Wasn’t the reason Anet axed gw1 to create gw2 because players wanted a better z-acis that Anet couldn’t support?
I’d much rather be able to spectate than jump…

Well, least that’s a ‘something’ to put on the to do list.
This game definitely needs this for seasons and/or (hopefully) upcoming ingame tournaments. Like said above it has to be delayed a bit. Show the best high level team/solo arena and tournament matches, and show also everyone’s last 1/2/3 matches. If its hard to implement, the question is:
Why didnt you start at the beginning of PvP development to find a way to make it possible?
I look forward to the day.
When do you think ‘the day’ will/could be?

be4 reading this thread i was secretly hoping it will be announced at 4.4 since they seem to announce pvp related things EVERY friday and this observe mode is something a lot of people desire so much… : (
well all we can do is look forward for the day when Nabbo.2845 makes a lot of cookies… : D

Hope there is a possibility to do so. Because at the moment the gap between top-teams and average teams is horrifying. Therefore an observe would help to catch tactical moments of each role in a team and therefore help to close this gap.
Obviously shoutcasted matches don’t provide enough and specific information for everyone. Also not all players are motivated enough to search for these things.
I really hope you can reach something of value till next year regarding this issue. For me personally it’s not fun playing against one of the 4-5 remaining top-teams all the time nor crushing some average teams (I doubt they learn something from these losses or have fun at it).

Hold on. After the experience gained from gw1 that had this feature and how good it was for the competitive playerbase. You (whoever decided on the engine) knew exactly what you wanted from the pvp and exactly where the pvp wanted to go (esports), decided to choose an engine that couldnt support a feature like delayed spectator mode??
Who the kitten made that mistake?
Oh wait I know why this happened – money A.K.A PvE.
kitten it man, just kitten it.
EDIT: It’s things like this that prove how tacked on pvp was. How so many people dismissed gw2 pvp as an esport because it was an MMO. I know it’s not the pvp devs fault but kitten this coulda been great and time and time again it’s proven that money wins.

It’s a pitty that it is unlikely to be realised, but I appreciate that at least we got serious and reasoned statment on this topic and not another “soon”-like stuff.

Well said.
We do not need a different sort of observe mode. Just let us observe high rated matches, let us chose it from a menu and it’s fixed.
Ninov Ftw
Prince Lesh: you could just somehow make it for matches that have top 100 players on the ladder (we will have ladder, right?). And it doesn’t have to be exactly the same! It can be a replay after match is done.. or something. Anything!
So wait — if I promise cookies, anything is on the table?

That’s the whole idea, but they can’t do it because its in the ‘too hard basket’
