The point of this to make some people out-there defending Spirit Ranger take skill to play and is “balanced” in their world. Since, so far there are no hard proof regarding to this matter, I recently come across with this video, think I should post it to those who defend it to see for themselves.

The guy killed people without even having any spirits up – and running a Moa! To me that shows that the people he was playing against were really, really terrible. He got destroyed by a guardian with all spirits and moa up. If anything this video shows why spirit rangers need to be buffed, not nerfed!

Oh right, the people he play against is bad..Oh wait, he is a decent rank players, yet he only need to mouse-clicking to achieve his victory while other has to go through the bother to bind their key together to use effectively. Also, please re-watch the very first counter of him dueling the Eles and watch that Eles rank at the end, r40 vs r20,hotkey vs mouse-clicking. How on earth did he win that way.So tell me, between mouse-clicking and hot key binding, which gives you fast reaction? I choose this video simply because he literally mouse- clicking on skill and yet still do a very good job…. The ranger need Buff if anything show in this video,, yeah, right >_>!!!

The video shows that even a clueless guy, no hot-key, literally mouse-clicking spamming skill win most of the fight can win easily against a r40 player, how skill this build need to play effectively and how cheesy the build is. You can keep your eye closed in the matter, I don’t care. Anyone with brain, logic and reasonable, understandable will think otherwise.

The worst issue with playing a spirit-ranger, is that it is horribly boring :-S
Yes, it is easy to play and be effective, and yet I claim, there is as always a rather significant difference between the good and the bad ones.

I am all for changing the design of spirits. Personally I would like some of the traits for spirits to be merged, and in return spirits don’t stack. Not sure if it would work, but at least it would lead to some diversity.

Given more interesting skills in general, we might actually implement spirits as a part of a build rather being the build.

Oh and … weapon-skills that aren’t so spammy is on the wish-list as well.

The fact that this spec is so ez-mode and effective at the same time is embarrassing for the state of the game.

This ranger:
A) clicked
B) spammed mindlessly with no thought to his abilities other than the fact that they were now available and ready to be clicked
C) started his troll ungent heal way too late in fights
D) sat at full endurance for the majority of fights, which means he bottle-necked his total number of dodges for a given fight
E) Never pet swapped..AT ALL. (at least for the first 3/4 of the video. I couldn’t sit through it all)
F) Didn’t even use pet abilities…AT ALL.

It’s a joke. This player doing this doesn’t affect me because I would melt him off the face of the map, but it’s just the disparity in what others have to do in order to actually “play” their class for less than half of the pay-off or effectiveness. The other issue is what this spec can sustain in the hands of a better player.

I used to play spirit ranger when I first started pvp. I stopped after a couple weeks because the spirits were killed in the beginning of almost every fight. This left me with little offense and little defense. Of course, at that time, many people were running bunker builds.

A couple weeks ago, I was watching a match and following a spirit ranger (laughing to myself). After watching him a while, I realized that he really never died and I discovered the reason; many people now are running glass cannon builds so they can run to a point and unload everything on the person standing there. This tactic may work against most classes but is always a complete failure when using it against a spirit ranger. I now run a spirit build when I plan on protecting points and sure enough, idiots jump on top of me and unload everything while I avoid the damage. Then they stand there looking like an idiot as I slowly kill them or make them run away.

Kill the spirits to make the ranger extremely weak, then unload on him – it’s not a difficult concept and it works great!

Oh, if the ranger in the video can kill people without using a heal or having any spirits up at all (even though he wasted 3 points in his spirit line), either he is a god, or the other player really sucks!

their enemies were not that good compwise and team wise. and he didn’t face on 1v1 a great bunker engi, a bunkery stunlock war, or a skilled bunker guard, or a permaevade bunker decap thief. Or a kittening meta necro. 2 of them to be exact.

Yea, I took a break from my thief and picked up my ranger again for a bit of PvP. I played a spirit ranger and it got boring pretty quickly, although it was very effective.

as i’ve said countless times over and over again, the skillfloor on spirit ranger is quite low on the same hand though the skillcap is actually quite high and it is propably the strongest ranger build so far ( not counting betas ).
as for the video : everyone played quite poor and they’re nowhere near close to realizing their classes potential, so it is good ( to some extend ) that low skillfloor builds exist that are beneficial, nevertheless a skilled/more experienced player should be able to counterplay/outplay a guy that just started playing with a low skillfloor build.
currently this is barely the case and while there are ways to distinguish good players from bad players – it often doesn’t matter that much which has a lot to do with passive mechanics promoting to spam abilities that provide little to no counterplay.
( burning proccs from sun spirit, incendiary powder and dhuumfire to name a few )
another thing against spirit rangers is that it is quite often ( not always ) a l2p issue on the opposing players side as well, if you run up on point and stand in the spirit actives you’ll get melted, if you rotate in and out of the fight you can kill the spirits while putting pressure on the ranger – necro is a great example of a class that is able to kill a spirit ranger, stack up conditions on the spirit(s) or spite one of them and epidemic. ( well be advised to trigger emphatic bond by an autoattack or any condition you can apply, which will give you a 10 second timeframe to unload on the ranger) same applies for certain warrior builds to some extend.
but hey guys – let’s keep crying, while this is still arguably the worst meta so far, you guys can still use your braincells.

Regardless, that ele was trash. R40? Just another hotjoin hero. They were all bad in this game, but the baddie with overpowered build clearly has an advantage.

The fact that everyone in here agree that the video is a terrible play for both sides,yet the spirit ranger can did excellently. Whether they are hero hot join or not, a r40 player should not be killed that easy in less than 10s by a hand of r20 player, not with that kind of play, provided they are both coming from Hotjoin,or able to survive in team fight with that mouse-clicking play for a long time. “The spirit Ranger is not easy as you think”, I take it back, we never think it is THIS easy to play to be effective.

The way I used to do it with my S/D build, was that I had some of my skills hotkeyed and others of them not so. Since S/D is mostly three buttons, all I had to do was shift my wrist a little to the right or the left to activate my skills. If I wanted to combo my skills, I’d use the hotkeys and the mouse together- for instance, click Flanking Strike while pressing V, which, on my keyboard, is Steal. Still, I definitely think it’s better overall to use hotkeys entirely.

When you find a real video of Spirit Ranger game-play post that, then you can say how easy Spirit Ranger is.

It would be safe for me to assume, let say everyone in the match at equal level, newbie skill level more or less. The fact that he dominates everyone else at the same level with that kind of game play,not because he is skilled, properly handle the situation, I believe show proof enough how easy this class can be played. The class is clearly OP when play at competitive level. At this kind of level, it already dominates everything else. Logically speaking, if two at the same skill level facing, one use Spirit Ranger, one use an X build, the wining odd favour will always on Ranger’s side. I even dare say if he know, the player in the video, the use of hotkey, properly combo and proper built, heck he could beat me up with his ranger easily while I have 600+ tournament under my belt while he is clearly no where near that.. The skill of a player does not matter if the build clearly shows advantage over the others.

The problem with your logic is that it doesn’t necessarily carry through to different skill levels. Once again, all the video shows is that ranger is good in low level play. Oops, don’t make another logical leap by inferring that I am denying they are good in high level play. I’m just saying the video is evidence of…. nothing much. His opponents might have been clicking for all you know. This could be the clicker world championship match, and he is the best clicker around. TBH, the thing that stood out to me most (after how horrible a match it was, seriously, after about 3 minutes ‘my eyes are going to bleed’ kept running through my head) was that he was surprisingly agile for someone who was clicking their abilities o.0

Like I said before, the video clearly is a very hard solid proof to show that Spirit Ranger is VERY easy to play despite with that many newbie plays presented. I am so amazed at the capability of a Spirit Ranger. In a new hand, it is already decent. In a professional hand, it will be an atomic bomb.

The more you play, the more skill you improve in gameplay, the less mistake you make,the more awareness of the situation you have. Yes, the build carries through different skill level. I would love to see that kind of gameplay on any other class, save Power Well Necro and Spirit Ranger, to be anywhere near that destruction. Though, Power Well Necro do try a bit harder, it is still cheesy compare to other build.

Please have a VERY good look at the VERY first encounter where he kill an Eles. Please point me out if there is any of his team mate around and that is not solo? Anyway, deny it all you want, close your eye if u feel like it. The spirit ranger players will get what they deserve at the end of the day for abusive such cheesy build.

I challenge you to mouse-clicking on Engineer and find a newbie players to get the same effectiveness as the Spirit Ranger. Anyway, I am done with you.

But seriously, why use your skills selectively and skillfully when the passive benefits from Spirits actually encourage you to spam weapon skills, since they’re so good (70% chance for protection or burn? Whose idea was that?). It just becomes a faceroll class where activating every skill possible whenever possible is more beneficial because of short cooldowns and overly powerful passive benefits.

To those who think that all class is as easy to play as Ranger, I challenge you all make a DpS Eles, Trip Kit Engineer, play with it and win with no sweat. Record it and put it up to show proof.

I played my spirit ranger again tonight, but this time I just stood on a point and waited with all my spirits up. Sure enough, every single opponent came charging up and unloaded on me at point blank range, while ignoring the spirits. I even had a couple spirit rangers do the same thing so I just killed their spirits before they got to me and watched my pet tear them apart! It’s getting to the point where people are just killing themselves in a ridiculous manner.

Please people, take a lesson and use a little skill for once! Kill the spirits, THEN move in on the ranger!

Cool story…So while they are busy killing your AI, what you are doing at that very moment? By the time they kill your spirit, you either have your spirit ready to re-summon again or they are forced to go in defensive mode totally.. In which case, you clearly gain already massive advantage over them. Unless you screw up your fight BADLY, there is no way they could overcome that. Also please record you fight as I would love to see you play well or simply the people you play against suck hard time just like you discredit those players in the video.

I don’t think you are crazy at all.. I would love to see something be done before taking another step further. I think start with less dodge spam is a good idea.

For me the problem is the same, some say Spirit ranger are easy, or harder o the same as other clases, its not the main problem. The main problem of GW2 PVP is The Spam…

Spam DMG, Spam dodge, Spam Cleansen, SPAM !

A Spirit Ranger is an easy class, because you just pop everything and pasives do the job, its not as hard like…. necros? who just spam AOE dmg all over the place, or… Grande Engis, or evades thieves, or cleansen eles.

Discusing who is the easy class doesn’t matter.

It doesn’t matter when, or what you just see a red bar you spam all your abilitys, there is very little to nothing punishment for a player to do that. SO EVERYONE DOES IT.

In this game you fart and do damage. its sad.

Spirit Ranger are bad for the game, its a game type that brings nothing, at this moment that they are “OP” or 4 month ago that they suck, its the same, passive things just need to go, Spam thing should be punish, if Arenanet achieve that, you have a real game.

Tell me, if im wrong, but dont you enjoy a game if you chill or cripp a person thakittens going to you at a melee ranger and he have to decide what to do, i clean that or i just wait for other situation… Okey he dont clean the slow the range pop the DMG, the melee guy says “catch you”, pop defensive things, now the range guy is in troble.(this is a stupid ejample)

Giving condition for everyone in things that can be spam, HURTS the game.

Once they nerf down necro’s/ranger, you guys will find something new to complain about and I can bet it’s the same players as always.

If rank was any indicative of player skill, you would be right. Unfortunately, in this game, you can gain a pretty substancial amount of rank without even grasping the concepts of the combat.

That just goes to show an even bigger problem than these FOTM builds, which is Hotjoin/casual play rewarding nearly as much if not more than competitive play (soloQ/teamArena).

That r40 could be a r10 for all I care, because thats the skill level I see him play.
