Silentshoes (Thief), Wind of the Woods (condi ranger)
(edited by Silentshoes.1805)
I play a spirit ranger in soloQ, with the current meta build.
I can assure you that simply plinking “2,1,1,1,1,2” does NOT quickly drop any opponent 1v1. You still die when they kill your spirits, or if they are a necro, or if they are a decent CC warrior it is tough as well when they stunlock you because you did notice they were within striking range and they snare you.
And in a 2v1, you have to play properly to buy time, and you are still not likely to win. They kill your spirits and you are toast. Or they simply DPS you down.
I agree spirit ranger gives you time to think more, since they are a simpler mechanic. So what? Is there a prize for key management and complexity of rotations?

If you loose to necros, you doing something wrong mate.
The problem with Spirit Ranger is, you can play the build one day and you will be more effective than players that play for example an ele for a year.
Any necros want to comment on how they take down spirit rangers? Or are you powerless over them?
On the same skill-level you are pretty powerless

You are certainly entitled to your opinion that all classes should be very hard to master.
I am a little older and slower, so the Spirit ranger build evens up things for me and lets me compete better. I don’t have the twitch that I had 30 years ago, but I still like to play.

As someone playing spirit ranger for my team I can validate this. I’d be hard pressed to lose against people on my team now, but had lots of difficulty winning when playing engineer.
this is the case about a spirit rangers.
if you lose, you’re a bad spirit ranger. if you win, spirit rangers are op.
skill is out of the equation either way.
it’s the stigma against rangers, man.
but look if they are cc warrior or necros…here u have it..all the other classes are just easy to kill and trust me i know what i am talking about
Yeah the meta will be hilarious when they balance rangers and necros since many players have been riding the fotm and will be stumped on what to do against the players who have been perfecting techniques on technical play.
Less than a month!

FOTMS/META builds are good for the casuals to get into pvp.
Nerfing them will be a bad idea.
a skilled player playing an fotm/meta build will win against a casual playing an fotm/meta build. so it’s still skill that matters.
just rebuff BM rangers so we will have spirit rangers and bm rangers viable.
In the name of build diversity.

The spec is extremely easy to play get over it. You can make a ranger and do 3 matches as a spirit ranger and be good at the spec.
You can’t build PvP around casuals with E-Sports in mind. Competitive and ambitious players are bored pretty fast since the meta turned into this BS.

I said balance, not nerf. Clearly we have differing views on what’s balanced and no discussion will have us agreeing with each other.
I agree that there should be easy-to-learn builds for newer players to enter competitive play but traditionally those easy builds don’t dominate the entire meta for the past two months. Even at the highest levels of play do we see spirit rangers. SYNC ran 2 and dominated their competition. The 2 players on SYNC said they hated ranger but it was so absurdly Op that they were pigeonholed into running it if they wanted to compete.
a.net lingo
balance = nerf

but Solo-Queue is for casuals and not esports. Esports is like PAX or mmorpg tourneys.
High end tourneys aka E-sports could just resort to “prohibited builds” rules and not ruin the fun of the casuals solo queuing.
When you here the would balance and you feel a bit worried for your class that generally means you need a nerf.

Casuals with a leader board? Hot joins are casual. Many people are taking solo q very seriously. Anet perpetuates that mentality with the leader board.
solo queue is meant for casual play. just log in press a button and you have a match. that’s it.
Casuals with a leader board yes.
Don’t box hot joins with casuals. Many who are serious about their glory rank are farming hotjoins. certainly not casuals.
if you say solo queue are e-sports then i will just lol in front of my computer.

That’s your opinion. Team Q is just like that too. Log on and press play now and bam you’re in a Ta match. Is that casual too?
Many people believe and/or want Solo Q to be competitive regardless of whether it not you think it is.
That’s your opinion. Team Q is just like that too. Log on and press play now and bam you’re in a Ta match. Is that casual too?.
ideally, if you want to play and win team queue, you get 4 people and make them your friends, practice x hours a day and win team q fights. and you decide to go esports and join prized tourneys etc.
your example is a casual joining a team q match. which will be frustrated because matches are automatically uneven.
thus soloqueue. now the casual player who just press button and want an instant match is in even matches (minus the syncing cheaters of course, those you refer who take the boards seriously)
The spec is extremely easy to play get over it. You can make a ranger and do 3 matches as a spirit ranger and be good at the spec.
Why does my spirit ranger beat every other spirit ranger? If there’s no skill involved, shouldn’t they be able to beat me at least some of the time?

Even Anet stated that SoloQ was specifically designed for players who wanted to improve their competitive play without having to form a team. For players to be exposed to the competitive aspect without commitment.
The evidence suggests that Anet created this format to be competitive and for serious players looking to improve without committing to a team.

Why does my spirit ranger beat every other spirit ranger? If there’s no skill involved, shouldn’t they be able to beat me at least some of the time?
Because you are better at the game then they are or they are relatively new to the game. The only skill that class involves is learning how to body block and learning how to time your evades thats about it. The rest is just easy condi spam with passive burning. I guess the self rez takes a little skill…

But if that’s the case, how come someone who runs the same spec as me loses? Ah kitten it we go around in circles now don’t we.
I have trained with my Eles for months and tried hard to perfect my combo with Engineer, and yet I lose to some FOTM build ranger, he/she plays for 3 days Q___Q. Why is that? Maybe because I am suck, maybe….

Are you mentally handicapped? Why are you automatically assuming that everyone who plays spirit ranger is on the same skill level? It is a easy spec with a low skill level. Players can still suck and be better then other players playing the same spec. Or they could just be better at the game? Better rotations quicker reactions better movement. I am sorry I am the one who had to tell this to you.
Well that was incredibly rude, but I suppose I’ll answer you anyway. I know alot of younger people play, (hopefully with parental guidance.) I’m not automatically assuming that everyone is on the same skill level. That is exactly my point. You said there is no skill required to play spirit ranger. There clearly is if one spirit ranger consistently beats another spirit ranger with the exact same spec.

Me- Why does my spirit ranger beat every other spirit ranger? If there’s no skill involved, shouldn’t they be able to beat me at least some of the time?
You- Because you are better at the game then they are or they are relatively new to the game.
You basically agreed to me right there. Let me rephrase it then I suppose. If it’s so easy to play, then how come people don’t wisen up after a few matches and beat me?
Btw im not claiming to have any mad skills. Everytime I see another spirit ranger or necro for that matter I roll my eyes. I just enjoy the spec, I’ve been playing it since January.

The problem with Spirit Ranger is, you can play the build one day and you will be more effective than players that play for example an ele for a year.
This. Face rolled some champion magnus with my spirit ranger the other day. That other day was the second or first day that I played ranger xD.

Here is slightly complicated example, but duh, it should show why from what you say does not follow that the spirit ranger is not a faceroll build.
-take all skills except autoattack away from warriors.
-make it so that warriors 1 hit everything.
-make it so that warriors cant be damaged by anything else except other warriors.
Now warrior is obviously ridiculously overpowered, but still, if someone practices that ridiculous 1 hit warrior a lot, he can win most fights against other warriors.

Go make Spirit ranger and record yourself and then post saying what you just said.
There is a skill cap, you think its easy playing spirit ranger well it might be strong build, but I for one don’t even use my auto attack. There are very long combo chains to some spirit build’s.
Took me less then 1 day become good at a mesmer, the skill floor on mesmer is stupidly low.
I think only class that is hard at first is Engi, but after I got my finger memory it wasn’t that hard all I needed was tactics and solid build. I can beat spirit rangers with my Engi its not that hard.
swiftpaw, it’s about time you stop loitering spvp forums for a bit and go back to wvw and pve mate. If you can beat another spirit ranger with a spirit ranger, that means you understand the matchup better. But even so, you are on the same playing field as them or should be given that they didn’t kitten up their spirit ranger spec. At the end of the day it’s imbalanced and takes less skill to learn than most other builds.

Let me put it in a simple way since you can not understand very well:
- A VET spirit Ranger will always beat Casual spirit ranger (Skill matters)
-A Casual spirit ranger will always face rolls a Vet players of other class that takes months to master ( Spec > Skill)
- A VET spirit Ranger will always face-rolls a Vet of other class any given time of the day (Spec>Skill)
Conclusion: Spirit Ranger is EXTREMELY easy to play, yet EXTREMELY effective.

Just because people can b skilled at connect4 doesn’t mean it’s as demanding and challenging to play as chess.
Lot’s of “I can do this and I can do that” in this topic, but little actual relevant facts or logic.

QQ some more about Spirit Ranger’s. If there so strong go roll one make video and show Anet how there so easy to play.
Please QQ more, this will be like POST 10000 about people who don’t play spirit ranger or ranger come to forums and QQ. QQQQQQQQQQQQ
There seems to be some confusion in this thread. Spirit rangers use conditions and rely on their spirit actives to land. Necromancers heal more off of conditions and have 2 ways to transfer conditions back to the ranger. Therefore logic dictates that if the necro kites the ranger and stays out of melee range (spirit active range) then they are being hit primarily with poison, bleeding, burning which can either be consumed or just transferred back to the ranger, one of which is a mark (25% chance to dodge) and a seeking condi transfer that is rather difficult to dodge as well. Even if dodged the condi transfer ends up on a spirit or a pet which can then be epidemic’d. Moreover, ranger’s conditions go to their pet so with the above and a good epidemic on the pet and the ranger is doomed. So, a well played necromancer should beat a well played spirit ranger.
