If I am fighting for a non-claimed node 1v1 and it’s a stalemate should I leave it and join team to try and roll a fight or do I stay and keep it contested hoping my team can win an even fight?

Not sure what you mean by no claimed. No one has it or your team doesn’t’ have it.

If the other team owns it leave. They are just ticking points owning it and you can’t do anything to stop it.

If it is neutral not ticking points for anyone then, you are probably better off keeping it neutral as long as you aren’t a threat to die.

If your team owns it don’t leave.

Just depends on whether you think you can win it. It’s ok to step off the node if there’s a bunch of dangerous AoE on it or you’re fighting a warrior who’s going to CC you repeatedly. You get 5 points for killing them, so if you win then claim the node then that’s great! Keep in mind that if you’re at far, whenever the enemy respawns they’ll probably come to reinforce the person you’re fighting.

It is a tricky situation to be sure. I would say generally most classes would rather keep the point contested rather than giving it up for free, However if your team seems to be struggling, it may be best to try and peel for them, since if they full wipe as often happens in soloq, you will be getting +1-4’d. Try to watch the team health bars, and the mini-map for downed players on both sides, to make a better judgement on whether they need help. Thieves would be an exception as their extreme mobility allows them to quickly and repeatedly decap unguarded points forcing the other team to waste much more time recapping, mesmer dropping a portal works similarly though less frequently.

Ya I meant far and contesting a neutral or decapped node. Ya I get team that sometimes freak when they fold and I trying to keep point from being capped.

So next question,

I’m on the map with svanir and chieftain. I’m on the middle node squatting because a thief keeps coming by trying to decap. Down below in yard there is a 2v2 going on for 2min and everytime I try to go the thief hops on point trying to decap. After my allies lose the 2v2 they blame me and say I getting reported for throwing the match. Did I do it wrong? I was on a druid (“zomg why you no heals us!”) at the time and a previous match I saw people freaking cause people wern’t fighting on points. Confusing.

If you stay on point you neutralize a player (thief) and gain points.
If you aid your teammate the thief will take your point.
If the point belong to the enemy the thief will aid his teammate.
While fighting the 3vs3 the enemy gains a lot of points

They should bring the fight near you to get helped.

You need to make a quick decision. I will stay and contest if my team looks good on the other points. If there is a 2v2 or 3v3 going on at the nearest node, that you think might turn into a loss, it’s almost always better to join your allies to turn that around.

It’s generally better to loose one contested point in favor of saving another, along with 2-3 allies. I have this axiom that “The best way to win conquest is to keep your allies alive.” Others may disagree, but if you and your allies stay alive you’ll usually end up capping points as an after-thought and wining the match.

Sometimes the highest scoring player on your team is the worst. Consistently opting to capture uncontested points and winning 1v1 match ups, whilst leaving the rest of the team hopelessly outnumbered.

Many times you’ll notice some of the best players will uncap a point but not stick around to cap it. This is because they know the primary goal is to make sure their teammates are not outnumbered or outmatched.

It highly depends of various factors i.e. how is your score looking? Are you able to sacrifice 20 or 30 points and give those to the other team and still win? Hows the other nodes looking? Is your team about to wipe on mid and you need them to stay alive? Hows the other team looking? If it’s their home and you just saw your team demolish them at mid, you should probably run because you may get ganked by freshly spawned foes. What I usually do is wait for my team to come or for the other team to come so I can decide to fight or run.

Unless you’re 20 points away from winning and you holding that node is the only thing bringing the points in, it’s almost always better to help win the team fight than to keep the node. Your team really should’ve tried to disengage and move the fight onto the node, but that’s not always possible.

As usual, it’s all about reading the situation and knowing the tradeoff between the points you’ll gain from keeping the node capped vs winning the team fight and snowballing from there.
