Spvp Rank is across all characters?
Didn’t know that was the case. But that is infact bad for gearing your alts and vice verca
Yeah, it’s across all characters. But I don’t want to have to rank a character to 80 and then do it ALL over again. It’s going to take normal people a while to reach 80 anyway.
Why should you have a high rank on a char you’ve justed created? I mean the whole point of ranking system is to reflect some kind of experience?
1 Char. shouldn’t be rewarded for anothers work.
what is really wrong with rank in my opinion is that is shader with 8v8 and 5v5.
assuming i spam “rank 20 thief lfg” how can you be sure i am skilled (rank 20 skilled meh but w.e) or just farmed in 8v8?
Rank is a reflection of player experience, not character experience. You start at max power so why should you have to rank up each character?
You don’t have to rank up each character in LoL or each race in SC2. You just have your own rank. If you’re rank 20 and you just now switched to thief, you’ll know if you’re good or not. Are you really going to try to trick people into thinking you’re good so you can join their team and lose?

The problem with this is that your skill per character played, vastly differs. I play my ranger like a champ, but that new guardian I rolled up…wow do I give free kills to my level 20’s team. I have no idea what I am doing, and should be pitted against lesser skilled players to develop my skill, just as I did with my ranger.
Yeah, it’s a bit funny when I try new classes out. Enter a match with a high rank but no real ability to play the toon I’m on. Get owned pretty hard.
Had a match yesterday where some thief kept roflstomping my new mesmer. Danced on my corpse, lol’d and made ankitten of himself.
Got back into a game on my main “thief” and guess who I found? It wasn’t him doing the dancing this time. =p
Ranks should not be persistent acrosss all characters. I know for a fact that I’m only competent on two of the ones I play – and suck big hairy ones on all the others.
Well, this isn’t very relevant, but seeing the “rank 10+ req”, “rank 20+ req” ect. in my opinion is really silly. How do you expect me to prove I’m that rank? The only way I can think of is with finishers, but expecting people to save finishers specifically for that is absolutely stupid.

You can always turn titles on – although it doesn’t mean you can play the particular character you happen to on. =p

I did forget about titles.
If player rank is used in any kind of rating system to match players in pvp, you will never see it be character-based. You could simply make a new character and mow through noobs for glory farm, then delete the character and start over. You could even keep making them of the same profession.
Also I really disagree with people saying you should have to grind rank on each profession to be considered good at it. It doesn’t especially matter that it’s not your main profession, you as a person have gained experience from all your other fights and you will learn that profession much faster than a player that just installed gw2. There is no accurate way to measure player skill anyway, so don’t penalize players for playing other professions.
