Spvp is not new player friendly.
The rating system works in weird and mysterious ways. However the more tournies you play the more accurate your rating will be. So if you continued to play and lets say lost idk 5 more matches in a row. Your rank would decrease with each loss and then eventually you’d be playing against people with your skill level.
Don’t give up. The matchmaking algorithm clearly has shortcomings that pit people against unrealistic competition in the beginning. After a few matches you will find yourself in a better fit as far as matchmaking is concerned. There is a ton of volatility in the system, but if you stick with it and learn what you can, then it won’t take you long to get competetive, realistic matches.
Things will get better when the queue is split between team/solo. There are currently a lot of relatively even matches going on, but some very uneven ones as well.
There are not enough people playing for a system to be accurate. If a rank 800 plays against rank 2, with 20 second queue waiting time before that, then something is definitely wrong.

True, but if the waiting-time would be much longer, then people would probably complain and say: “I’d rather play uneven matches than to w8 15 minutes before each match”.
It’s hard to find a balance between those two options and ANet hasn’t found it yet.
Also, a newly implemented ranking System will always be flawed, because a ranking System needs time and lots of games to become more accurate.
This is one instance where I’m merciful enough to give ANet a little bit more time and I encourage everyone to do so as well.
best wished, “Powerbottom the merciful”! ^^’
SPvP has never been good to new players. It’s too convuluted with outdated systems.
Why do I have to run to an NPC just to que a tournament? Just add the button to the PvP tab already.
you need to know that “Rank” in SPvP probably doesnt matter, its just a form of level like the one in PvE… matches are created using rating, the invisible one, that one which matters for leaderboard so as others say, just play some more game, if you lose, you will drop down quickly and play against equally skilled players soon

because your character would become fat without that movement and you will too if you are this lazy! be happy that you can port to The Mists from anywhere you want, its already easy enough
My frustration is with rank 1-8 ’s coming in and saying first time here whats going on what this what that…etc etc….having no clue about maps secondary objectives etc etc…I understand everyone starts somewhere…we all did. I get that.
But why doesnt anet implement some system similar to LoL where say you can’t do ranked aka tpvp until your at least rank 20 or something …. it’d smooth the transition between spvp and tpvp 10 fold….because at this point I feel forced to find a premade each time I play this game now.

This or a similar solution from GW1, where for e.g. in HA, a clip popped at the beginning which showed all important stuff and explained secondary objectives of the actual map. This would be better for new players, instead of this window with the short explanations. Then ppl actually would see what is what.

Yes please. I’d love to run around, and do all my PvE stuff while waiting for a que. Standing around in the Mist is rather boring.
Heavens Rage
For me, no more Spvp!
Good call. I recommend you stick to that until the pvp actually crawls out of its alpha/beta state.
And yea, don’t bother with tournaments – solo queuers are just cannon fodder for premades.
a solo queuer may find it very difficult for premades but at this stage there are little premades anyway, or at least at low ranks. An experienced player can hold their own but it can really go either way. That being said, my win loss in tournaments from just solo queueing is pathetic. something like 15 wins and 25 losses.
Mild addiction to arcana tree ~
I’d advice you to ask couple of your guildies to join you. That will make it easier to adapt into strategic teamplay matches. In hotjoin, there is no teamplay.
I sincerely hope the whole of solo que playbase quits or moves to a different game mode, be it pve or pvp, so that we can officially declare free tournaments as the new premade-only pvp mode and see whether or not it can actually sustain itself without feeding on soloers.
We’ll see who’ll be begging the other first to come back then.

In hot joins, you can win everytime and next u want a challenge, and try tournaments.
But there u get your butt kicked a lot! Ending the match against rank 60 LOOOL And im just rank 18.
Where is the balance? I want to do tournaments vs my own rank, not vs ppl who play this game 22/7
For me, no more Spvp!
1. I quess you never play’d paid Tpvp
2.for TPvP you (in most case’s) need another build
3.TPvP is Team Challenge, join solo is more for players who knows how it work
4.Rank doesn’t represent how good they are.
try to make more team build for tpvp and find some friends to play with.

Rank does tell how experienced you are however. A lot of tpvp has almost nothing to do with who is best mouse jockey/fighter. Its all about knowing the maps, how to attack point intelligently, when to engage or disengage from a fight, when to do certain things ie dodge, stun break, stomp, cc plus a lot of other things. You don’t know that right away and really it probably takes about 15-20 levels to learn all those nuances for your average player. It probably wouldn’t be popular but maybe it would be better if A-Net made all hotjoins 5v5 and prevented you from doing Tpvp until at least glory rank 10. And add a brief video tutorial like someone mentioned in tpvp before the match you could watch during the start up time.

You are right, but all this wont make sens with some PvE build. So Build come first, they map controll (as point holder you must not know that) and of cource expirence.
All thous thing doesnt have anything to do with your rank. I know a lot of ppl who are rank 50 + ,but they can’t play on TPvP because they are solo hot join players .
If you want to srat with TPvP like a big boy, you need some one who will show you around and explain everything. If you want to start with Hot Join [if you are necro ,you can ignore Hot Join mostly] they do you’r self a favore and make a good working build
I think people are overestimating how difficult it is to compete in tpvp.
Yes if you’re in a pug against a decent premade you’ll lose. This doesn’t happen every time. There’s plenty of other ordinary people entering solo too, you’ll play against them plenty. I know because I play against them all the time and I only solo queue, winning about as much as I lose.
