Hello,

it seems I should have posted this here in the first place:

I know, I know… if I’m looking for good game experience I should avoid soloq. But I dont want to. So…

Is the 0/0/2/6/6 staff build only viable in coordinated teams? I really like D/D except that I lack ranged attacks. Staff brings a lot of them but I dont know how it will effect my survival or node-fighting capabilities. Never played staff ele, only in PvE.

(Admins pls remove my previous post from the Ele section of the forum. Ty)

I used to play Staff 00266, great survivability and control, but it took forever to kill anyone in a 1v1 fight.

Switched to 66002 now, it’s more enjoyable but less forgiving.

Staff in current meta is super bunky thanks to the big buff in staff Water healing, signet of restoration buff to pve level, and celestial gears.

Earth buff is really nice too, that blocking is one of the evilest skills I’ve ever seen.

As staff ele you have to use ether renewal, the signet doesn´t scale too well with your low attack speed.

As rune I prefer pirate because it is the only way to be decent in duels due to lack of viable single target abilities since they are all poorly designed. Also you can keep the pet alive with heals and the control abilities make sure your pets can land some hits.

You have no real choice but celestial 0 0 2 6 6 , as glass canon it takes too long to build up damage and doesnt synergise with being squishy and triple cantrips are mendatory for vigor. No vigor=no evasive arcana=bad

Your role switches between back point defender while attacking mid from max range, teamsupport like guardian and stand on point while rotating with your warrior and decapping/forcing squishy classes off point when opponents make rotation mistakes.

From a control point of view: Staff Ele has similar CCs to a staff/hammer Guardian in it’s air/earth attunements.

Static Field, Gust, Unsteady Ground, Shockwave. (A5, A3, E4, E5)
Ring of Warding, Banish, Line of Warding, Zealot’s Embrace. (H5, H4, St5, H3)

Of course, there’s some additional and differing utility beyond this. However, CC-wise these are pretty shared with the biggest difference in Static vs Ring.

I think the type to run 00266 cele staff in SoloQ is probably similar to someone running a bunker Guardian in SoloQ.

If you are o.k. with having to outplay your opponents, I suggest zerkers staff (I sometimes run 2/6/0/0/6, with downstate lave font). While zerker staff isn’t really THAT great, it will teach you better positioning, and make you think more about where you go down. Playing zerker staff is kinda like entering into the hyperbolic time chamber.

If you want to bore your opponent to death, you can run 0/0/2/6/6 cele ele, and while it can be engaging to play for a short while due to the need to properly set up combos and position aoe’s, after you get that down it is one of the most mind-numbing specs to play. No damage, just sustain forever and whittle your opponent down.
