Backstab is fine.
Mug isn’t.

Arguments do not see. Why one stealth skill is damage autoattacks and soft control, and the other has four damage autoattacks?

Mug – one burst skill for many other sets of arms with a huge cooldown.

Guys, can we please not discuss balance anymore in this thread? Or can we at least not talk about L2P or OP stuff. This thread has been pretty good so far and those types of discussions will turn this into a cesspool.

Lowell, what are your feelings about stealth and how it differs in this game from others?

The reason I bring this up is that ultimately there is a ton of frustration linked to not only the damage, but how it is initiated.

It’s one thing having high burst, hello hb warriors, it’s another thing not being able to react to it.

In my opinion stealth isn’t that much of a big problem (except the 12s aoe stealth from Shadow Refuge), the problem is that clipping problem that is still not corrected as far as I know which makes you remain stealthed from your enemy’s point of view for 0.5s or so after you hit him.

- Backstab is fine;

Compare stealth skills
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stealth_skill

So
2-3k max “Tactical strike” VS 8k “Backstab” + 6k Heartseeker
Very well thought out balance.

The lollipop is a lie

2 different weaponsets with 2 different purposes, I dont see the problem and I like the long daze more than I like backstab actually. By the way, against something moderatly tanky a non-crit backstab from the back will hit for 2.8-3.2k

I’m afraid you just opened pandora’s box lowel :<

I probably did, but I felt that we had to give an answer/apology to some concerns people have so yeah… I’ll deal with the content of the box, somehow!

I agree mug has a 45 second cooldown if untraited and requires the usage of a trait for steal to be damaging. Their nerf on CnD’s damage to reduce the extent of the burst.

As mentioned earlier in this thread i think balance is not a problem for GW2 PvP. Yes, there are some issues of course, but the main point of what people leave, because they can´t play. And they can´t play because they dont get fair matches. Even they got lvl 40+ premades in free tournaments and get stomped fast, or from point of view of the premade group – they dont have challenging matches at all. Maybe 1-2 per evening. Thats not that much.

At this point im glad ArenaNet is working on matchmaking. Im just a bit scared that its allready too late or the implementation itself will be to support their tournaments system, which as we know is not the best and require a hudge playerbase, which we do not have at this moment.

I have a question here; How come Mr.Sharp was so eased on saying “we need to do a better job communicating with the players”, but he has yet to agree with the fact that having ranking/matchmaking at launch would have made the ‘state of the game’ much better than where it’s at now?

I spoke of this on Friday, but let me reiterate.

We could have had rankings, but without tournaments or a way to get teams playing against each other in an organized fashion, they would have ranked…..nothing. Just the pub play matches. That’s why we wanted to set down a framework first, then add in the custom arenas (for practicing/developing organized matches) and rankings. Having rankings without tourneys or a matchmaking system literally wouldn’t do anything…you would just have rankings based on random pub matches where teams would be anything from 1-8 players. Seems bad to me. That’s why we made that decision.

Does that make sense?

J

No, fake. Instead of making the tournaments system, you had the time to make a simple 5v5 ranked, and a solo q ranked.

You are in denial, the whole tournament system was a bad idea, and people told you that before the bwe1, only recently you realized how important was the ranked system, that’s why you changed your priorities, that’s why we don’t have the private servers, because you are now working on rankeds.

A simple elo system with a soloq, and a q for premades was much easier to code, don’t even try to sell us the story that we could’ve rankeds but with nothing else.

You wanted to be different for the sake of being different, and it backfired.

QFE.

Tourneys are based on the same maps as regular sPvP. They did not bring any additional “content”, they were purely “structure”.

Solo and Team queues would have provided structure too. Sure that’s what others games have but at least they would have worked, unlike tourneys and their even more ridiculous extension, QPs.

You wanted to be different for the sake of being different, and it backfired.
Can’t stress this enough.

BURST. Warrior is not the best, but can be played as a great roaming class. There are some teams even in PAID tournaments that still play warrior and got good result. I have faced lot of warriors that killed me and i was like.. what.. what just happened? a warrior killed me? impossible..

I got a question for you as well.. What will happend if warrior will be more viable? Will that keep people playing sPvP and tournaments? In same system?

fair answer.

As i said before, im not saying that there are no balance issues, i just believe that the main reason people are leaving the game is not really in balance. Of course it would be part of it as well, but lets say the hudge part is not happy with current tournament mechanics, missing matchmaking and general lack of competition. While balance is on the list too but somewhere in middle.

As for balance i believe also rangers are quite not happy

The purpose – to die of bsnoob for 3 hits? Because Daze gives hit 2 times autoattack and backstab demolishing half health. 15% damage nerf will not make bs thieves worse, but will remove the three push noobs of pvp.

Couldn’t agree more with you. Would be nice to have a balance stream with each class being represented. Funny enough, on this stream 3 out of the 7 have thiefs as main?

Only issue would be finding someone from the “pro” teams that play a ranger… i believe there is perhaps only 1 with reasonable amount of QPs.

it makes perfect sense. i said this exact thing in my advanced post for a new playlist.

but can you explain to me how custom arena will be better then an advanced playlist(in terms of getting new teams ready to compete)? it seems that my idea that was backed by a lot of ppl was just overlooked or not replied to.

custom arena wont be good for new ppl to get better they wont put in the effort yes the great teams will maybe use it if they dont want to enter a tournament.

advanced is easy and with most ppl being lazy they want to just click it and play. new teams wont go through the effort unless they see there new team is good enough to put that much work into.

Your “advanced playlist” is really just patchwork over a bad system and it would be much better to axe the whole tournament system and go with single/duo queue and premade queues both with ratings rather than have something that slightly improves on a broken system.

Seconded, partly.

I see no reason to scrap the tournament system, since it can be used for the daily/monthly tournaments. But to have it as the “go to” game mode, with ratings and Matchmaking implemented, I just can’t see how it will work.

I think the extremely polarising nature of downed state to turn people off stPVP is being seriously underestimated at the hardcore-casual level.

Removing downed state in PVP zones and buffing resurrection utilities to allow for some level of “res meta” would free up resources and solve a lot of extant problems with the game at the same time. Downed state plays way too big of a factor in GW2 PVP.

As a person who does more pvp than many, I find that when you have two or more players who are not playing and you are losing that it’s a problem with the mini-game in the first place.

Lately I’ve seen players standing around for several instances of the map battles as they change but some are even going as far as to move to the end of a map point and hide.

This needs to change soon, it’s unfair when I am not a great player as it is so even with my “pvp booster” I am getting far too little glory points because of the imbalanced game play from players who just won’t fight – some get a few points but most get none… so the question is begged…

Is it possible to pop a pvp glory and then stand there and do nothing at all and still garner a single point?

Why are people standing around in spvp for hours without hitting a single key and why isn’t there a way for the system to remove these players who not just after joining but map after map after map change do absolutely nothing and whoever’s team gets them will most likely lose.

Listen all I’m just saying is wait a while ok?

And all he’s saying is that apparently you haven’t noticed:
The MMO community does NOT do this. Sorry.
The game will get a little bit of a grace period where MMO players will wait and see, then:

  • Another MMO will come out and this one will be shelved
  • The game will get that miracle patch and a few will come back, but not the majority

Thing is, the typical grace period for an MMO is about up with GW2. There’s some other much anticipated games coming out (not just in the traditional MMO field either) that will be far more enticing than just playing ‘wait and see’.

Elder scrolls online for instance looks promising.
Planetside 2 is freaking addictive, and free (just requires a semi-decent computer to run it)

I’ll throw my 2c in.

I know everyone has their own ‘ultimate fix’ for turning GW2 around, even if they’re ignorant of the logistical difficulties and cost barriers to do so. With that in mind, here’s my grand vision for GW2. (Entirely my own opinion, of course.)

My “AMAZING OMG THANK YOU GROUCH” plan is composed of two parts:

1.) Revamping the current tournament system.

-Use the existing tournament system exclusively for DATs (coming soon?) and MATs. (Automated tournaments)

-Create a MMR-based single-round matchmaking system on random maps. This will allow paid queues to pop at literally any hour of the day, compared to currently mostly being able to queue for paids during NA primetime.

-Separate queues for solo and 5 man. QP’s only awarded to 5 man rosters. (Reduced QP per win. (You’re playing 1/3 less for it, you know.)

-Tournament ticket system needs to be revamped. If it’s going to be single round, the cost should be reduced by 1/3, right?

2.) Turning Heart of the Mists into a standalone (but still integrated for full game purchasers) free-to-play client.

F2P games for the most part enjoy the benefit of robust player population, obviously attracted by the option to trial something for an extended period of time without obligation. I don’t think that anyone is going to argue against an injection of new blood into the mists.

In my head, it works much the same was as (gasp) League of Legends. When you initially download the HoM standalone client, you are given one character slot. With this character slot, you are free to create any one of the three professions in the ‘free to try’ rotation, however this one free character slot is only able to play one of the trial professions. Once the rotation is up, you’ll have to recreate your character, or purchase that profession. Ideally, the price for a profession or slot is around $5.

Buying all 8 professions will put you out roughly $40, less than the current non-sale price for standard digital edition.

Additional benefits or limiting factors could be introduced to make flat-out purchasing the complete Guild Wars 2 client (PVE funtimes included) more beneficial. I have yet to map these out.

I’d like to stress that I’ve only spent limited amounts of time fleshing out the free-to-play HoM model, and if you have criticisms or feedback, feel free to do so. I’d like to see the idea evolve somewhat, even if it does seem a bit far fetched.

I’ll probably tune this up later on. Have to head out!

It does but the problem is:
Why ship a game without its core features at all? I can understand that u decide to skip some unimport stuff and add it after release but missing core stuff is pretty much against all this “when it’s ready” mantra that Colin was saying on every interview at least few times. If PvE was finished and PvP was not, whoever is responsible for splitting work between those two should get fired, or at least admit his big mistakes.

People don’t realize or notice that its not 2005 or 2006 when u could ship an unfinished game and add a lot of stuff (only exception is if game is f2p), bcoz there are other titles and community will just quit and never come back – its especially visible if u look at MMO games. Guild Wars 2 thanks to finished PvE is considered good game, but in reality u dropped the ball so hard i doubt anyone will ever consider it as an e-sport title which is huge shame considering how good pvp in GW1 was from the start.

To sum it up:
It was worth my money to play pve in this game
It was not worth my money to play pvp in this game.
