I, like many if you, have been playing GW2 PvP since day one. And simply put; I think those of us that frequent the forums have lost perspective and are too focused on minor details to apreciate how far PvP has improved.

Let’s remind ourselves that once upon a time, we had to play mini tournaments to have structured matches. Teams who wanted to compete had to organize together and queue at the same time for a paid tournament.

Not so long ago the only reward for playing countless hours of PvP was a neat finisher and cheap backpacks (and a few gems if you were dedicated enough).

If you solo queue mid fights could last 15min with bunker guardians on both teams. Honestly, every period up until now there has been an S tier class, spirit rangers, thieves on release, etc.

Currently there are obviously balance issues. Not every build is equal to their counterparts. But at least there are separate rolls and teams won’t have success with 5 of the same class even if it’s 5 lich necros.

I would like to see more viable builds for the f2p guys so the game continues to grow but we can’t forget that the game has come a long way in the right direction.

Anyway just my thoughts excuse my grammar please <3

Sure, but we actually saw a period with great balance (Sept. 29 2015 —> Oct. 23 2015) and then it was rapidly taken from us. So we know what great balance there can be, and we know what we’re missing!

Yeah rewards are sooo good, I got ~6 eggplants and 20 mithril for being in the top 25 on the guild ladder. In fact rewards are so bad almost nobody from season 1 bothered to touch the guild ladder in season 2.

Hell this week on one of our alt teams we lost the first match vs the rank 1, and became top 100 with 0-1, rofl. Very healthy population indeed.

Expect season 3 to be a wasteland now that many of us already got the legendary backpack, there’s no reason to play s3, maybe for the first week or 2 for the title. kitten rewards, kitten balance, but don’t worry devs are reworking skyhammer! What a clown fiesta.

The main problem is build diversity is at the bottom. The game seems forced to specific build´s/roles and elite needed. I can understand that elites give a direction and are good in that but this should not prevent diversity and balance over all classes. When i try warrior its such a diffrence to my main … Warrior maybe has the best diversity within the class, but can´t compete with the specialists of the other classes.
If you look over this and play one of the 5-6 good builds or variants it works … After a few matches maybe boredom strikes … Always the same classes and builds on both sides. Not much personal build´s that bring surprises. And as a result playtime decreases ..
And MMR system in leaguage …. it got a disaster frustrating many.

There were power builds that were dropping them like flies. Problem back then was that cele dd ele was seeping a lot of burn damage. Which is quite the bane to power builds.

We got away with celestial amulet which was clearly OP in terms of stat given (idk why they even went that route) and we got the brand new mini dire amulet that lets conditions run rampant and heavily diminishing the viability of power builds.

And we are there again. Power builds die when a condi build sneezes.

And i know this is not the right thread but why people consider 4 revenant dodges overpowered AF and a thief that ultimately can have a lot more is “fine”. Is it because a well placed crit kills the thief? I find this complaint amusing even though I don’t play revenant.

Do every build needs to be 1-hit kill for people to be happy in this bloody game?

And to the OP, yes the game has come a long way … in a really, really long time. And some of us see the balance team going back and forth or simply ignoring larger issues (like heal turret being the best heal in game kappa since launch, now with extra 3 blasts from engi hammer <3 ) and it’s freaking irritating.

If I could get the game in the state it was before the June patch i’d pay for it and I’d never ask for another update looking at it now. Call it nostalgia or whatever you want, I don’t care. The game just played better, with less passiveness. You didn’t get 10 different types of condis in a blink of an eye ticking you down for 2-3k at a time with added power damage on top.

WTS Boston was the single most fun streamed event I’ve ever seen in this game, ever.
And then they completed botched it at Cologne, boosting the cele ele skyhigh and bringing bunker meta upon us. Boooooo

I agree with the OP that gw has improved over time. However, its competitors have improved as well. Shall we keep on playing gw because it had improved in the past or shall we play the game we like most?

Let me draw the following analogy: Ford produced the model T. It was a huge success. Todays models of Ford improved a lot compared to the model T. Now imagine Ford builds a “crappy” car. Will you buy it because Ford improved so much in the past?

“Ford had a car that was able to start the engine in the winter …. they named it Focus”

:D

Sorry, I know it’s offtopic but that’s literally the first thing that comes to mind when I hear Ford. You don’t want me to start with Opel/Vauxhall

- Game isn’t being balanced based off the three game types individually, therefore making it impossible to achieve balance for three dramatically different parts of the game.

- Game breaking bugs being around for years untouched or even spoken of nowadays.

- Anet refusing to believe that a smaller game type of less than 5 per team would be beneficial for both the players standpoint “more teams with a smaller player base” and spectators alike “easier to watch”. They would rather double down and make things worse in terms of pouring more time and effort on failing conquest than to admit that the direction they’re taking is wrong than to address the problem and move forward.

- Elite specializations are not only limiting build diversity but enforcing power creep based off bad balance.

- No solo q feature

Yeah, don’t sit here and try and sugar coat a blatantly obvious problem and blow smoke up the kitten of the people who don’t know any better, perhaps yourself included. I’d rather this thread turning into something that addresses the issues of what I listed above than play the game of ignorance is bliss.

The game has never been balanced sadly, but its much worse than its ever been. I don’t think it can ever change due to gw2 being a pve game first, pvp game second. Remember gw1 was a pvp game first, pve game second.

Stuff that seems ok in pve never ever works in pvp. Which is why we are in the state we are in. The game could change if they balance the two modes separately, but looks like they don’t want to do it.

Nope. Sept. 29 balance patch was the D/D ele fire nerf, so it was afterwards. That’s the month inbetween the D/D ele nerf and HoT release.
