Well, I’ve been playing all night (30+ games) and the matches have been reasonably random; there’s been a mix of low and high level players on both teams. However, just now I came out of a game where the other team was composed of all top ranked players (recognizable pvp guild names too, such as VvV); every one of them was above rank 50. It’s clear to me that they knew each other and were syncing together to create deeply uneven matches in solo q. Players like this understand how MMR matchmaking works and have been abusing it to get higher on the leaderboards. Something needs to be done about these players… They have no sense of honor or sportsmanship.
The balance changes are being done by the Skills and Combat team. The rewards are being done by the PvP team.
I believe we are getting close to revealing more details about the reward changes, but I’m not certain about when that will be.
The solo arena roster shuffling should be in the next update (11/12) unless we find a critical bug and have to back out the change. This change should eliminate the sync queuing, and do a great deal toward preventing lopsided matchups.
More significant changes to matchmaking will come sometime next year, and I’ve already been told I can write-up a blog post and start a conversation with you guys, so keep an eye out for that.

While you can abuse the system and sync queue its not entirely always the case.
The system group people of similar MMR first before match against another group. So highly rated players tend to get bundled up together a lot and when there isn’t anyone to match up against they get a group of lowbie rated players after waiting in queue for several minutes.
the other team was composed of all top ranked players
Yes they sinc…and yes they’re so called “top players” because they sinc…leaderboards seriously need a reset after fixing matchmaking and sinc
Yes, it’s a problem. I think the 12th patch will absolutely end it, as trying to sync queue would be more likely than not to land you on opposite teams.
Even better, everyone who has abused the system to gain a better rating will be put at a large disadvantage, because the MMR of both teams will be roughly equal. So if your MMR is unnaturally high, you can expect to get worse teammates (since your high rating will “make up” for their low rating.) Good luck.
