I’ve wished for a semi-large, open, snowy (WvW is full of grass, snow maps are rarer and cooler), map where PvPers could have battles since I heard about GW2. Not 5v5, not Cap vs Cap, not who gets to Svanir first and who second. Just pure 10-15 people vs 10-15 people all-out deathmatch war.

Why is this not here yet? That would be actual PvP, just like Courtyard. The problem is, courtyard is still just 5v5 and it’s small, and round and awkward to actually play on.

To all the naysayers I say in advance, this being implemented would not affect you at all. If you didn’t wish to play it, you wouldn’t. It’d just be another PvP mode, just on a slightly larger, open map with actual killing being the thing that mattered.

The game is balanced around 5v5.
Making sPvP modes larger than that would either require a total rebalance or would make said mode very unbalanced.

Players always find a way to screw things up.

World vs World would be a much better experience if players tried defending the objectives they own. Unfortunately, players are reward-driven; if they gain more from letting the enemy capture it, then capture it back, then that’s what they’re going to do. That’s also why Edge of the Mists is nothing but a brain-dead karma train.

You can expect a medium-scale PvP match to be all kinds of awful:

  • Players leave their team immediately when they begin to lose and try to exploit any game mechanics available to get the win rewards regardless of the outcome.
  • Players make the minimum effort required to get the match rewards at the end, then sit in a corner and drag their whole team down.
  • The losing team does nothing but zerg rush into the other team on respawn, purposefully dying to significantly reduce the length of the match.

Before any kind of new PvP features, we severely need all reward-related changes since April 2014 to be reverted. Ever since PvP rewards have been removed and replaced with PvE content, the quality of PvP has dropped below acceptable levels. Instead of PvPers progressing through PvP for fun, we now have PvEers abusing PvP for quick and effortless rewards.

In other words, it’s not here because neither the devs nor the players are ready for it.

And Range, sure, yet by that logic everything is pointless. I just want it here eventually, it’d be great fun.

regardless weither it is courtyard, any other 5v5 or 1v1 or anything it all still comes down to which team has most guards and common cheese

Yes, the game is balanced around 5v5.
That is also why it is fully possible for a massive zerg in WvW to be repeatedly owned by a much smaller group as long as they know what they are doing.
