if i was at anet, my priorities would be like this:
fix matchmaking algo if it’s not gonna take too much time -> cross server lfg system -> split solo and team queues -> review matchmaking algo -> automated tournies with gem prizes

if i was allowed to be a brave dev, i would make team queue enterable only by guild teams, so then we could easily create meaningful solo and guild leaderboards & make guilds have a reason to exist in pvp finally.

I had a interesting experiance yesterday thats sums up for me the problems with leaderboards and matchmaking at the moment.

Im a avarage good player, have a good build for my class and know how to play well. However where I trully exell is what I woud call battlefield awarenes (movement, positioning, reding the map…). I have never been in top 1000 simply becouse I play solo, but I have felt many times that Im much better than my rating. Im sure many others feel the same way. I belive that more than 50% of games Im losing are due to how the system works, people going afk, 4v5 fights, R1 players and so on. I know this goes both ways and that I had some “free” wins with the oposing team having the same problems.

So yesterday I started playing at 95% and for my first 5 games I was matched up with R1-R2 players, afks and so on. It was a terrible experiance and I got 1win and 4losses. I allways try to give some information at the start but it helps little.

Then I got a new random team and 1 of the guys asked if someone on the team was over R10. We all started to laugh becouse it sums up some of the frustration we all had experianced. We started to play and it showed quickly that we worked well together and we knew what we where doing. We won our first game like 500-50, no low ranks og afks on the other team. Then we made a quick team and in the next 5 games we faced premades and we won all our matches.

Next time I checked the leaderboards I was around 600. place. In few hours I went from 95% to 75% and to 600. somthing. I didnt become a better player in a few hours, yet my rating got much higher simply becouse I was lucky to get team up with some other decent players.

And that sums up the problems with leaderboards and solo play. The people on top of leaderboards definitivly deseves to be there, but under those players its just random and its much about getting lucky during matchmaking if you play solo. There are good players outside the leaderboars becouse they play solo, and there are bad players in top 1000 becouse they are caried by other players.

You pretty much have it here. There is too much volatility in the MMR and the Solo v Premade issue just makes the entire system a poor implementation. Even in the top 100 there are people that have no business being there due to small sample sizes.

Just…depressing statement really….we said this at day 1, before leaderboards, and NOW you have plans to address it.

Your statement at this point of time should be, “We currently are working around the clock to fix the matchmaking algorithm and splitting solo-q from pre-q.”

Plans to address it now means for us (the community) in about 50000 years we’ll start working on it after our coffee break.

I pretty much quit the game now, been here since day 1 of beta, but I just can;t wait any longer, dragging myself along in Yolo-q or any team, people just quit. meta is stale and boring, too much balance issues.

I;m back on LoL for my PvP…this thing…is an UTTER JOKE!

Why not take a page from LoL’s book? Similar to how level 1-20 summoners will generally only be matched with each other, how about keeping r1-10 players in a separate tourney queue (unless premade)?

Although I agree with matchmaking is in need of some hard work to make it right, your solution is pulling the problem even closer!

Ranks are by no means indicative of player skill. You can have a rank 20 that is extremely talented at PvP and won 80% of his matches. You think this rank 20 should play with and against other rank 20 with 50% win ratio? I think not.
The current system has in mind each player’s MMR and not his PvP Rank (I still think this type of rank is a joke, only tells you how much time you spent playing)

Thing is, the current system tries to get an average MMR per team, so if a team has a very high MMR, if you put a low MMR guy in there, it goes to medium MMR and having a medium MMR can grant you faster matchmaking agaisnt other medium MMR team. And thats the real problem right there!

I’m playing soloQ in top100-200. I always get matched with r1-10 ppl. This is not matchmaking for me. A player that is under rank 10 could never be on my rating, and this is not rank-racism at all. When I search after this ppl I find them in the 60 – 80 % range.

fixing matchmaking should be number one priority for any pvp based game (same priority as balancing)
but let’s fix spectator instead, those 40 people playing in player-driven tournaments are mor important than the other 1000-2000 that gets screwed by facing premades (people not even in top 1000 facing rank 200-300 premades, are you serious? XD)

Old but gold…one (Thief) ragequitted around 350-400 but still probably r20- or something..our engi got low pnts cause he crashed in the middle of the match…not even balanced 4vs5 lol

While level 1s or 5s indeed ruin the game ranks in generally don’t mean anything. I had games where our team on rank 20ish average was beating the 45ish enemy team 500:300.

with all the alt accounts for solo queuing, you can’t really be sure if that rank 1 is just a n00b or a pro using another acc for solo queue

Lol I saw someone’s screenie where they told them not to queue. I do the same thing! I’m sorry but it is grieving. It is one thing to do what you want because well no one else should tell you how to play or what to do…..but don’t be a knob. You ARE grieving your team by being inexperienced and joining RANKED tournaments by solo queuing and you have no clue what to do. Why not just keep practicing in customs? You aren’t hurting anyone who is actually being competitive! PLEASE! STAY OUT OF TPVP!

Or, how about A-net fixes their match making system/rating system. That would help everyone.

I’ve never played against sataar team as a premade, I’ve always played him as solo que. That’s why I laugh everytime I see him in top 5 because he’s clearly playing against solo que only to get there.

Another thing I laugh at is how we can post a million pics of rank 1s in high ranked solo que teams, YET ANET development team doesn’t do squat, its been over 2 months as well.

I’ve played with so many rank 10 and below and rank 1s in solo que, I don’t rage anymore, I just laugh and when people on my team start kittenin because we facing rank 40-60 team and our team has 2 rank 1s I laugh even harder.

Those rank 1-10 players evidently have the same matchmaking rating as you.

Honestly if Anet thought for maybe 30 minutes about the tournament queue system and leaderboard before they released it this could have all been avoided. They should have asked themselves ‘how does this queue system + leaderboard affect both the casual, hardcore players – is the system fair for both types’. So at the design stage, they already failed.

Instead we are left with this mess that if was prioritized would be fixed in maybe 1-2 months, not 3 months till indefinitely. Acknowledging that it was not the way it was intended is fine, but doing nothing about is as well is being ignorant to the pvp playerbase, which is more or less the trend that has been since release date.

Karla how did you manage to contribute nothing while your team got 122 points. No kills, no caps, no neuts, nothing.

Its just funny to see how they make a new build to stop ppl from farming, but they wait for a “big” patch to fix their broken “E-sport”.

Just played another match with an akitten on my team…. and the other team was a premade.

I’ve played over 700 tpvps and there are just too many games with a bunch of noobs on my team. Today these games occured 3 times in a row was when I started with rank 600 on the leaderboards.

They were clearly outclassed in these matches and were not smurfs. I’ve seen them trying to res dead people and capping points with 3 other people on it.

Matchmaking needs to have a limit on the MMR difference that a match can have. I am sure this is causing more people to quit PvP than the alternative of waiting longer for a match.

And if it is averaging MMR then Glicko is highly flawed.

I’m not sure if the improvement of matchmaking system is alive, but situation is worse than before. Almost every soloq team have one or more <10r member and balance of teams is almost unexistant. Are you planning to adress this or what?

It should be better with the tuesday patch. Let’s hope it actually gets better. But until soloq/team q gets in won’t be a lot better.

Why do you care? Seriously, why would you care about some try-hard that buys another copy of the game just so he can appear to be rank 1 trashing a high rank player? Does it make you sad when you get owned by a rank 1? They are a minority anyway.

Haha, I think the forum would be dead by tomorrow if everything would get hot-fixed overnight. PPl would actually play the game rather than wasting time complaining about it.

Also had games against smurf account premades who are now below rank 200 EU all week. Another underrated side-effect of the leaderboards and current matchmaking system.

You are expecting that a patch will solve this issue. The think is, if there isn’t a huge playerbase with lots of every-skill level of players, it can’t be fixed.

Even sc2 matchmaking system with way more players and way easier (because it’s a lot of 1vs1) gives sometimes weird matches.

How am I calling the kettle black? I solidly belong in the top 1000 having solo queued up there multiple times.

Ranging from 3-400 to 90% depending on how much i soloq…nonsense, if they want a single player leaderboard they have to reward single players, otherwise just make a solo player ladder for soloq (Let ppl join solo ONLY not 3+2pug and stuff like that) and a team based ladder for premades…simple? Yes. Doable? Sure. kittens given to pvp and chances to get it soon? Noone.
