I play hotjoin/practice to unwind and mess around.

But 7/10 times the match has a 200-300 point deficit and is a 4/3v5.

But if I try and use the practice button to get a match that is just starting, it seems pretty difficult.

On top of that….it puts me BACK into the same lopsided match over and over and over again….what the !$@#?

If a match is 465 – 20 with no possible chance of changing the outcome, with less than a minute left until match end…STOP giving me that server…please!

My post in the “Bad Matchups” thread is the reason I won’t be touching the Ranked/Unranked again thank you. It was already a pain getting top10 soloQ before the big patch, now it’s an exponentially worse pvp experience in general.

But I guess if I want a proper match I will need to start going through the hassle of choosing my own servers from a different tab from now on.

I figured there may have been some extra checks involved though, considering the game remembers your last server (and highlights it in the browser) that it would be able to void it, or at most, re-join that server a single time before it throws that info away. At times I get the same server 3-4 times in a row before it finds a new one.

“Oddly enough” is right. It’s been the case for me for as long as I can remember. I’ve learned to try and pick practice servers myself, which is also much faster, especially now that it is the only way to change servers from within a match (seriously though, stop throwing me into the lobby when I’m not even queuing).

Other than that, there’s no point in complaining about match making if you’re queuing on your own. That’s just asking for bad things to happen.

Hotjoins nowdays are just dailies and people farming newbs who don’t realize people can farm them in PvP.

It isn’t like the old days where hotjoins were fun and good matches.
Best bet is to just do unranked and ranked.
Or learn about farming newbs in hotjoins and farm newbs too!

Maybe if you played years ago you’d know Mr. Oldest post from 8 days ago.

All I gotta say is, hotjoins was the casual play, people enjoyed it. Paid tournaments was more serious serious play. You could enter it solo, but hardly anyone did, most people took it serious and went full team into it.

There really was no need to do tournament play, hotjoins were too fun, only reason why you’d do tournament play is to really test your skills and team.

Now tournament play, really is nothing but a grind.
Hotjoins now, nothing but dailies and farming newbs, 4v5 3v4, 2v3 style.
It was a lot harder to farm newbs back in the day, and people didn’t look at it like that, only those people that were super serious about being on the winning team which was few.
Today… Practically everyone will not join a team unless its the winning team.

Heh, in the old days people were farming hotjoins 24/7 to get higher ranks because it was the fastest method. I’m not really sure which period of time you are describing here. Also, rosy retrospection.

Ya, but it was a fun grind, wasn’t about gotta win, it was about how many points can I get. More personal and not how my team is, is my team a winning team. Team team team. I could care less if I lost 20 games back than, than losing 20 games now. Both would make me angry because I lost 20 games, but back then, it wasn’t a huge deal.
Everything you do is your grinding rank.
Playing in paid tournaments and winning is grinding rank.

The fun factor back than… tremendously better than what it is now.
They didn’t even have fun maps like skyhammer too.
Skyhammer came a little too late, 8v8 10v10 skyhammer, I could see being extremely fun.

I am gonna bump this, mainly because no matter how you look at it, this shouldn’t be how hotjoin works…

Joining matches that are 350-120, or 5v2, it is simply infuriating and shouldn’t be a thing…

put some kind of system in that can help alleviate this type of match choice

you could just wait out the inevitable loss and wait for the next game (takes about 10 seconds after someone reaches 500 points to start next game), which will start at the beginning.

EDIT: there should never be a game where it there is more than one person over the other due to auto balance (EX 5v2 shouldnt happen). unless that got removed it should not happen, though it does take time to balance it out

lol I don’t remember that either. I rarely have gotten hotjoins that were balanced. Even in beta.

That being said, you just join what team has room and start engaging in fights you need the practice in. Why does the game score matter at all since a true 5v5 from start to finish with the same five is basically non-existent in that pvp mode.

Well then, perhaps there should be another option:

Practice: Score is not recorded in this match, capture points are not active, and map changes every 15 minutes.

Hotjoin: (our current Practice) but with proper systems in place to provide a jump in/out game-mode but still have proper auto balance and proper locks in place for spectator modes etc.

Unranked: same as current

Ranked: Similar to current, but with a pre-requisite for entry (not much, but something small)

This would apply to non-custom arenas.

Upon joining a server, all options will be available to a player:

— Join Red | Join Blue | Spectator | Auto (new) —

• If a player remains in the server for 20 seconds without choosing an option, they will automatically be moved to Spectator Mode.

• Player’s choices will be initially locked to their selection, the team they chose, or Spectator Mode with minor exceptions.

• If a player leaves a team to join spectator mode, they will be locked into spectator mode for the remainder of the match, in exception to Substitution (explained later)

• Substitution Mode: When a player is in Spectator Mode (Spectator mode must be their initial choice) and autobalance occurs in a match, players in Spectator Mode will be given the option to “Substitute” onto the underpopulated team and receive a bonus similar to the Volunteer Bonus.

• Players who join spectator mode from previously playing in the match (choosing a team initially) will not be given the option to Substitute, and remain locked in Spectator Mode.

• Auto Team Option: The Random Team option will be replaced with “Auto” team option. Meaning a player who initially chooses this option when entering the server, will automatically be pooled into the Volunteer selection when autobalance is required. This option will always provide the bonus volunteer reward, but not automatically provide a win bonus (unless autobalanced with the system)

• Players who are locked into spectator mode, must re-enter the server to remove the restriction, and refresh their position in the server’s player roster, allowing them to choose their initial selection again.

Loong agooo, When Raid of C was still here, I do agree with kong, before was way fun.. and people really sticked in HJ if it was 5v5 for 3-4 maps straight.

Sometimes you can back out of a match when seeing it….then get the same match 3 more times when hitting the button, then it changes to a different one that is the same thing…400-50, then you opt out again, and it puts you back in again, then changes to another…

Bumping this, cuz this is still insanely irritating

Can you guys put any minimal systems into place to prevent 400-10 match joins, or selecting the same server over and over?

Or perhaps fix the issue where spectators count as “active” players when the practice button is pressed (meaning new players are less likely to join into uneven matches when multiple spectators are taking up player spots)
