There is a lot being said about what’s missing in pvp, some good posts about it and general requests about transparency. While I appreciate the replies I have seen from developers to those posts I’m yet to see a straightforward answer about why we’re lacking common sense pre release patch notes. This isn’t my first MMO, neither is it the first MMO for most people in this game. We know a pre-release patch list is subject to change until it is marked “final”. We’re big boys and girls, we’ll be ok if you add something there you’re trying out and then decide to pull out. Every MMO I’ve played releases preliminary patch notes, and in every one of those MMOs things change between that release and the final notes, and you know what, everyone is ok. Everyone appreciates that they have a heads up about what’s changing about the game they play regularly and invest time into.

What really isn’t ok is that the day before a major patch no one has any idea what the specifics of said patch are, other than very broad/vague claims of what is being added without any details or balance changes. For serious players that means we have no time to adjust to changes until they’re hitting us in the face. That’s a big pain in the kitten for people who play spvp regularly whether you’re hardcore about it or not, or whatever else semi-regularly.

While I understand development takes time, and a lot of things people are asking for regarding pvp will take time whether we like it our not, but this isn’t one of them. You know the changes you have in the works between patches, you have people that can type I’m fairly certain, so just… why no preliminary patch notes? And no, saying you don’t want to give players information because it might change later is not a reason, see first paragraph. Thank you. – Vidallis

Spoke to someone at Anet…the answer is they don’t want to have to change the patch notes if they decide to remove something and on top of that it takes a “long” time to get the notes localized…Imagine that, they’re the only MMO on the market that has a problem localizing notes.

Yes and no one understands why they’re the only company who has issues with localizing notes or blogs. All the other companies out there release information on a more regular basis.

You might want to change your Title and remove the term “straight answer”. I’m actually very surprised that didn’t get turned into “kitten kitten”. Thems be durty words round here.

Yeah I really do not understand Anet when it comes to communicating with the community. What happened to the blog post that was supposed to be coming after the last SOTG i haven’t seen any?? and the “secret projects” that they kept alluding too that was just stupid what are they letting us know by saying that? That they are working on the game??? of course they are working on the game that is their job. If big game changing changes are coming you need to let people know so that some of the many people who have quit or who have gone to other games to wait for new features will hear about it get excited and come back. Where as now its almost like letting the community know was an afterthought if Anet isn’t excited enough about these changes to promote them and make an effort to get the word out then a large portion of these players who have gone to other games wont be excited about them or even hear about them and many of them will not come back. Same goes for new players coming in I bet the majority of information these people are getting is negative and 95%of it coming from the community and from people who have quit 4% from sixth month old articles quoting Jon Peters about things that aren’t even viable anymore and 1% from official Anet sources. things need to change

That’s what the PTR is for…oh wait, they don’t have an open PTR. They’ld rather us play the guessing game and fix things AFTER they’ve introduced them into the live environment.

I love this idea that the community can’t handle things changing. “We don’t want to tell you something, then have to tell you something else” As if the big surprise on patch day will be smoother than letting people get used to the idea early.

I could understand if it was a major feature slip, but come on, that window has closed for this patch. I doubt anything major was tweaked for the last week.

Now when everyone logs in on patch day they have to scramble to adjust to the changes, instead of being able to prepare. Even if they didn’t give complete information, more specific information could only help more.

preliminary patch notes = massive QQ

changes too harsh, not enough changes, what about this thing, etc. I think it would be a bad idea. No one would ever be satisfied with the notes.
