What is the strongest 1v1 class other than mesmer ? Please don’t answer stupid answers like “4 signet burst thief”, “100b warrior” or “power based rangers”.

Could you please give the build of the recommended class too ?

Probably a condi mesmer of some sort, with Prismatic. But thats why the capture points are important it keeps this horror under control.

Oh you asked “other than mesmer” I guess something along the lines of condi warrior or MM necro or a thief built for resets.

All depend in what class you’re fighting. Thief can kill almost all classes, if the klayer know how to fight, but the guardian can resist longer.
If you use a warrior, I can kill you whit my guardian dps, why I know how to fight you.
A mesmer can kill well a single target enemy, but against a AoE class he lose all it’s clones and be easy to find and kill.
If you use a necro and find a warrior condi-remover (almost all the warriors actually in game), you have to be a good player to win.
If you find a class whit low capacity to remove conditions and you’re a condition damage class, you win. If not, you lose.

Actually the most valuate classes may have the necro mm, the warrior and the ranger spirit.

I play Guardian DPS whit meditations and win 50-70% of all 1vs1 that I do, because it’s a 1vs1 build.

At the end, the best 1vs1 class you can play is the class that you know better.

Wow, trap thief is the best class 1v1. build is: traps.

But a thief can beat a warrior, a warrior can beat a necro… Its all about skill / builds / counters.

It also depends on the situation:

I’m an awful duelist. I will rarely win a 1v1 against most players on a dueling server.

But when I 1v1 in tourneys, I win much more.

Possible reasons:

-Psychological factors. I have nothing to show when I have to fight someone on a tourney, so I’m much less nervous.
-Tactical factors. Mesmers, for example, are deadlier the more room they have to teleport. Warriors learnt from months to get them on narrow zones to kill them.
-Gameplay factors. Less stealth around, and neither me or them plays a 1v1 oriented build.

Mesmers are queens and kings of 1v1. However, if I have to list something else… :
-P/D Thief – good ones are a pain to fight. They’re still kind of vunerable to mass condition spam, but they often have huge counterpressure and play very attrition-like.
-Good Necromancers – I don’t list those fotm players rolling around with no brain, I talk about people who actually had big experience with that class and wisely use everything Necromancer has, not facerolling with spam
-Warriors – because, well… Loads of them and they have nice mobility, condition removal, burst, lockdown, healing… If you spot a good warrior, he’s a problem. If you spot form reroller, he dies quickly
-Engineers – They have weaknesses, but most of them, playing pvp can manage their own class pretty well
-Gaurd imba heal – because who likes dueling guardians. They take 3x more time than other classes. Most of them are pretty easy, but I fought ones who really made me nervous about winning fight.
-Spirit Rangers. When most people find them hard, if you kill sun, nature spirit and kill pet to prevent EB, 99% of them are no threst at all. It just takes some time

Other than PU mesmer, DPS guardian is probably the best 1v1 build you’ll find. Hambow on a point is pretty stupid too and S/D thief is still very strong.

Also because you need hard cc to fight s/d thieves and stop their evade chain, and many classes have a hard time putting cc in 1v1 builds.

Well, rules are a bit different in duels and far point assault:

in farpoint the fighting ground is more narrow.

On the other side, Farpoint assaulting requires you to take down the enemy fast, and backpoint defending requires you to be ready to sustain a 2v1 for some time.

the only classes that i can say i have consistent trouble with no matter what class im playing, has to be mesmer and engi. everything else is just annoying.

Condi warrior.
Minionmancer.

Ranger is weaker than these without elite. With elite, they are on par but moderately weaker to shaman condi warrior.

Zerker warr is definitely the best 1v1 class. It has the highest base health in the game, the strongest heal, heavy armor, great coefs, great CC, amazing condi removal… Basically, best everything.

believe it or not, the 1v1 matchups are fairly balanced in that no one class will always beat every other class 100% of the time.

Warriors however tend to have a much easier time in a fight given their strong regen, solid CC cleanse, and strong AoE damage.

In higher level of play you’ll see mesmers and thieves do well against warriors, so that makes people think that mesmers/thieves are the best at 1v1s. But both mesmers/and thieves can also die to condis easily.

So it really just comes down to personal skill and preference. Pick a class you like, and get good at it

What he meant is that now S/D are much more vulnerable to hard ccs than before.

If you can’t stun them, they are unlockable, and before nerf it was the same for stuns.

Zerker warriors with high armor and high health? Where? I do not even see their health

maybe if you duel in Windmill or OS ( WvW ).

Warrior would have very much higher chance to beat Thieve.

As a D/D SA thief, spirit rangers are often one of the easier builds for me to beat in a 1v1. I have had trouble against them with other thief builds in the past though. Trap rangers are generally one of the hardest ranger builds for a thief to fight.

Depends on what 1v1 rules you are going by, and the two builds involved. For example, Thieves are by far the best 1v1 class for WvW because if they play smart they can reset fights all the time, and eventually the other person is going to screw up or run out of CDs.

If you’re talking 1v1ing on a point, most strong “bruiser” builds (high defense and offense) do well. MM Necros (played well), Spirit Rangers, Warriors, Engis are all fairly solid options.

Something to remember though, all builds have a bit of rock-paper-scissors that happens in a 1v1. DPS Guards are really strong 1v1, but I absolutely wreck them on my MM, and I get destroyed by lots of builds on my MM. So one build that is really strong 1v1 might be really difficult to beat another build just because of the matchup.

Trap rangers are tough for pretty much the same reason any cheese war with a longbow is tough in a 1v1: You melt in condis whenever you get remotely close for attacks.

8k more base health and an additional base reduction of damage by ~7%.

i can kill 2 thieves at the same time as a spirit ranger but it still depends on the skills of the thief. a spirit ranger who uses double bows has the advantage over a s/d or p/p thief.

It’s more like a 1s cast time that now queues with other skills. Also, IR is basically sword’s only condi remover…

Nothing to see here with the QQ on S/D Thief nerf. It’s balanced now – you can 1v1 with it, decap far really fast, and it still has a huge amount of evades.

It’s hilarious to me how whiny those players are after playing that spec for so long.

going in and out of stealth the whole time doesn’t work against good players. if you’re getting beat by shadow arts thieves now (no infusion of shadow) i don’t know what to tell you besides start learning about the game and not copying and pasting builds Valentin.

Nerf it because it’s…annoying? I mean:

- You already can’t capture points in stealth (you know, the main way you win a game).

- You can’t really even ‘spam’ it because of the 4 second revealed time.

- You still take full damage from all attacks in stealth. You can still often see exactly where thieves are through AoE ring effects of things like black powder and Shadow’s Refuge, as well as from watching bouncing projectiles that still hit stealthed targets.

- You can still tell when you’re attacking a stealthed player through the chaining effect of an auto attack.

- Thieves have the lowest base hp, medium armor and practically no access to the protection boon.

But yea, let’s nerf the central mechanic of thieves not due to them being imbalanced, but because it annoys you?

Eh, it’s not the most complex class for sure, but it’s not that bad. I mean, compare a warrior to a spirit ranger. A person playing a spirit ranger may be the most skilled player in the game, but it won’t show since the build is pretty much based on spamming the utility skills on cooldown. =P

Naturally he shouldn’t die so quickly. He has 8k more health, 7% damage reduction, and the large amounts of passive healing from HS without requiring a cast time gives the warrior a huge advantage. Furthermore, a warr can pop invuln to live at least 4 more seconds, which is absolutely crucial. Warrs also have higher skill coefficients; a level 2 eviscerare does more than a single BS, for example. With the warrior build I’ve been running over the past few days, I’ve run zerker ammie w/ soldier’s jewel and have had absolutely no troubles dealin with burst thieves.

i wonder if an ele and a thief engage in a 1v1 battle, who’s gonna come out as a victor? what do you think, guys? btw, i saw a spirit ranger lose to a really good ele 1 time in soloq.
