To preface this, I HAVE NOT PLAYED STONGHOLD, instead, I have watched footage and other videos on the game mode… so in the event of my being incorrect on something please be semi-merciful.
It seems to me that stronghold mode is trying to emulate a MOBA such as league of legends, Dota, and Smite. However, there are several differences. The first difference is that in other MOBA type games, your character has to farm mobs in order to unlock new weapon skills. In the current game, you start with all of your skills unlocked. However, before the feature packs, you needed to get a certain number of kills to unlock each skill for each weapon(4/8/16/32 for each skill respectively). The same system could be used for utility skills. Although the numbers would need to be tweaked, this would be a major improvement to the game mode because it would:
-Lengthen the overall time that the game takes to play(preventing the 2-5 minute games that are fun for no one
-prevent player kills right off the bat
-add strategy to protecting your minions in order to gain a skill advantage

The second difference is that in other MOBA type games, you often retreat to a store type structure in order to purchase upgrades for yourself, such as passive sand consumables. There is already a supply system in game(I think it is used to summon a hero unit or use a trebuchet?(sorry for lack of knowledge, people seem to edit supply running out of their videos)) but this system could be either changed or expanded to cover purchase of buffs and upgrades(you could have merchants who sell foods, utilities, and armor and weapon boosters, plus whatever else). You could also have minions drop supply as well, seeing as players already do.
What this Adds:
-makes economy management more important
-gives players even more choices as far as specs go

Profession specifics would need special care, seeing as certain things become ridiculously over-powered when given at the start of a match with the aforementioned restrictions, whereas others do not(see: maxed thief steal vs. ranger pet)
However, I think readers will understand my general ideas on the topic.
In closing, I think that these changes, (which seem as if they would be relatively easy to produce seeing as most of them are already in place elsewhere with the exception of unlocking utilities with mob kills) would improve strongholds play as well as helping it to emulate the feel of MOBA type games.
I would like to mention that the idea of stronghold trying to emulate a MOBA type game comes from my observations and ideas, and not a statement from arenanet themselves. In light of this, I realize that I MAY have completely misunderstood the intent of stronghold as a game type and to that end just wasted both my time for writing it and yours for reading it. Nevertheless, I would like to know the communities feelings on this topic, so feel free to give your(constructive) thought below.

Main issue people have about SH is too much npc killing and not enough actual PvP combat.
You’re suggesting limiting the player combat even further and forcing mob farm.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t read past “I have not played stronghold”

But on Harrier’s point there is way to much PvE in the map, Spvp should NOT have this.

Solution, move it to a WvW queue that you play against a team from another world currently in your WvW matchup and winner generates points for their team.

They don’t have to scrap it and it goes where it belongs, in hybrid pvp/pve land aka WvW

Please skill/trait split and give control to the PvP team. Karl is fucking killing us

They’re not trying to make a MOBA in GW2. They took elements from other PvP modes like GW1’s Fort Aspenwood and GvG, maybe a little bit of MOBA, and threw them all into one mode. People see “lanes” and automatically think it has to be a full-blown MOBA mode.

Stronghold’s current problem is that most of the time, you can just drop your initial supply on a set of NPCs, push forward with most of your group, and get to the lord. That has nothing to do with how powerful players are. The Doorbreaker NPCs are just too effective and guards mostly ineffective.

I really appreciate your constructive comment! However, there are some points that I’m afraid I disagree with you on.
Firstly, I say that it resembles a MOBA because of more reasons than just the lanes. Although the lanes are a determining factor, more similarities are in the 5v5 format(although this is nothing new) and the npcs that spawn at a central nexus location. Furthermore you have guards acting as (weak) ‘towers’.
Simply put, the mode, although not a carbon copy, finds it’s most similarities with a MOBA type game. To this end, my suggested changes should not only help emulate the feeling, but also make it subjectively more fun.

No, it’s not that I want Stronghold to be a death-match map, I don’t want a map of its style further bogging down the Spvp queues. It should be moved to a WvW queue because its a format geared to their style of play.

Now a deathmatch (single life) mode would be nice (think arena) and I will drop all my gold in you mail if I’m wrong but MORE of the SPvP community would want a 2v2/3v3 arena type death-match mode OVER stronghold. Or you know a duel system, or more devs working on balence, or how about some real leaderboards, a visable MMR type system, Skill based reward unlocks (based on placement in seasons assuming a viable mmr type system).

The problem with stronghold is they are putting a lot of time and effort to develop this new non-esport viable game-mode and giving it to us with the expo and being like “look we care about spvp players we made a new gamemode wont this make you happy and increase your player base?” (no obviously not). When they could have chosen countless other things that have been asked for since BETA testing. That is why the vast majority of the pvp community dislikes stronghold (that’s not even including the various problems with the mode as is) See https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/What-Spvp-Needs-to-Flourish/first#post5131719 for a further explination on what really needs to be done for the Expo before they should consider a mode like stronghold.

A new gamemode that is enjoyable for WvWvW players as well as SPVP players would draw more of the much larger WvWvW crowd to SPVP, thereby helping SPVP’s crippling population problem.

Besides, it doesn’t really fit in the WvWvW queue. WvWvW is not about short five man team matches, it’s about massive scale battles that span entire weeks. Stronghold is an SPVP gamemode that has WvWvW elements.

No I’m referring to have a queue while inside of a WvW map. You would queue and play against teams of another world you are currently facing. Winning would score points for your world. Winning the match could let you way-point to any owned location and losing sends you back to you spawn. Then all your rank bonuses etc would be in effect, you could add the used of blueprints and get rid of the trebs on the sides. increase the player size to 10v10 and change the NPCs to be at the level of WvW npcs with current upgrade bonuses.

I think it would be a much stronger fit than in Spvp where players want to fight players not rush the keep-lord

No, I don’t want it to be a TDM. I’m just pointing out that NOTHING you wrote is even remotely close to the problems we have with SH.

I found the mode fun as it was (excluding 3-4min lordrush games). Can’t say how much of it was genuine enjoyement of the mode and how much was just being glad to play something that’s not conquest, but I believie that with some tweaks (like the ones proposed in actual SH feedback thread, which you probably didn’t even open) it can be quite enjoyable.

It’s not intended to be a MOBA, and I doubt anyone wants it to be one, since you know, actual MOBAS are better at being MOBAS.
