All the pvpers were hyped for some Stronghold action on Twitch

Why can’t I access certain game features from my beta character?
To keep our live game healthy while we do our tests, beta characters are restricted from certain game features. You will be unable to access PvP, WvW, the Black Lion Trading Post, and some other features from your beta character.

Which would suggest no Stronghold.

It is just a stress test. I tried to tell everyone they weren’t gonna be able to do much. More will come. Just got to be patient.

One has to wonder why after 2 years of the game running, they even need to do a stress test, are they re-writing the backend architecture or something similar?

They are adding completely new systems to the game. That requires stress-testing.
They are apparently also trying out a new condition system (no cap or at least a much higher cap), and that alone would require quite a bit of stress-testing.
