Stronghold mode info from afterparty

“They have play tested everything from 5v5 to 10v10. Nothing is set in stone yet for how the standardized setup will be, and likely will not be decided until enough beta testers comment on it. (HoT beta testing coming, no word on invites).”
Hopefully they’ll offer custom arenas with modification options. Looking forward to beta testing!
Having to play with 4 others random people is enough of a pain. Lets alone trying to get 9 other people to listen you.
Because they emphasized the guild LB for stronghold, I assume there won’t be soloq for it. Just a guess.

I am pretty sure Stronghold isn’t tying to Guild LB.
Can not play pvp because I am not in a guild?
Can not play pvp because I don’t have 9 other people on at the same time and place?

Ofc you can… conquest.

That’s how GvG worked in GW1. You could guest to guilds though and participate in that way. That’s how HA worked in GW1, but here you could form PUG’s too.
I would like to see a gamemode that’s restricted like that. It’s a teamgame after all.
A lot of the kittening comes from solo’ing in a team gamemode. It also killed the need to form teams and had an effect on the competitive scene (ofc. there are other reasons too).

I know how GW1 GvG work and I never got to play it because I need 7 others people to play with me and they have to be 2 monks, 2 something, 2 something, flag runner and all.
And that was the reason why GW2 pvp did not have that. The Fundamental of sPvP is to play whenever you want and however you want.
How many time do you see pro streamer play with the same 4 others players of his team everyday?

Indeed, it suffers in accessibility but it would increase the quality and the competition. They said there’ll be a guild leaderboard so to open up the gamemode they would need to split it in 2 (solo/guild). There are population issues that they have to consider.

What GW2 PvP needs right now is more and easy accessibility not the other way around.

Except for another ranked split (solo/team), they couldn’t possibly make it more accessible (/enjoyable). Or what do you suggest?
I’d say not everything has to be fully accessible, it might be a disadvantage but there could be advantages to it also.
A decent guild leaderboard (name, rating, stats?, etc;), possibly in-game, built upon the feedback of the current LB’s used for conquest (MMR and LP point gain/loss) would be awesome.
They can incorporate the guesting system from gw1 to allow pugs, however would this be really necessary as we can be in 5 guilds and it’s easy to join/leave one? Would this hurt the integrity of the leaderboards?
Guess we’ll have to wait until we get some info.

5v5 is the best sweet spot we should go for. It can create more team with small amount of player pool. It is easy to quee and easy to play with the others that you just met.
I think Guild LB is just way fix the problem we have right now with tournament. It never mean for the so called 20v20 gvg. Right now we have a bunch of tournament and many team participate in them but there is one more problem left to be addressed. Where are these teams stand in the game? I don’t know what they really want to do I am just guessing.
Its funny how GW1 gvg was more inaccessible due to restrictive compositions and guild requirement, and yet the number of guilds (or “teams”) dwarfes anything GW2 has ever come close to in terms of pvp activity.
Its better to focus on a good game mode than repeatedly kitten things for the sake of accessibility, Anet proved that from GW1 to GW2.
But for all intents and purposes of GW2s pvp population atm perhaps 5v5 is optimal, still hoping for 8v8.
GW1 Rank 1 – 2 Gold Capes – [sC] [sup]
For stronghold, should be 8v8, but anything else should be 5v5 (treb, troops, etc…)
