Struggling to choose a class
I’d go guardian so you can protect you friend’s glass hind-end. Engine is good for being a non-broken Jack of All trades class, and U.S. Necros are incredibly selfish.
If you want to play something close to what spirit ranger was able to do, which was holding nodes for a long time while outnumbered, I would go for D/D celestial ele. The ele spec is pretty much the reason it pushed spirit rangers back from being part of the meta.
There is still hope for a Druid build when HoT releases tho!!

D/D Ele is under a lot of fire lately as well and looks to be getting nerfed soon, Anet even said they’re looking into it since a team won ESL with a 4 Ele 1 thief comp.

Lol i hope anet is looking into it, the fact they have to say ohhh only this many classes per team says it all. Not to mention you cant use a certain rune with a certain class. If you look at the AG/ESl teams every team is using at least 2 eles and if you want to win you have to run d/d.
D/D is so much stronger the then the other ele options its funny and its even funnier that they thought it was ok back when they made this patch to the point that every other post on this forum was asking about d/d ele and mesmers. They put mesmers back down but not the all powerful d/d ele.
To the topic though i would suggest a cele guardian. Depending on how you trait you can do a little of everthing from a team and solo perspective.

I tried the guardian, necro and warrior. The 3 are really fun, but I think at this point, my final choice would be necro and warrior (Guardian feel good, but not as much as the two others – IMO).
I like the feeling of being really hard to kill as a warrior, but I love the necro style (I love the death polysh style of the death necromaster warrior from necroland)
I would say, I can survive more as a warrior than a necro (this is really important for me, I love being hard to kill). I think it is simply because the warrior is easiest to play (Gs/Hammer – not too hard). But I fell like the necro can be more versatile and powerfull…
I plan to do some roaming in WVW too. On metabattle, I found this build : Necromancer – Signet Roamer
“This build gives you a high condition damage with a good spike and incredible survivability. It’s cappable to shutdown any class if played right. Its optimal for solo/small scale roaming.” – This is the kind of build I am looking for.
I plan to test this build tonigh in SPVP (even if the build is made for WVW, that will give me a good preview of the build)

If you want to be something that can survive on a point by itself for an incredibly long time to keep it contested, go with necro.
If you want something that’s a strong bunker, but has more of a focus on team support and group fights, go with Guardian.
If you want something that is tanky, but can provide decent cleave damage, good CC, and some helpful utility, go with engi.
If you want to do all of the above at the same time, go D/D ele.
Thank you for your suggestion @Dahkeus ! Necro seem’s like the right choice. It is just harder to play (I tried some match, I got wrecked, even with the meta build – I am a noob fo sure).
About the DD ele, I just don’t like the ele at all (I don’t like to switch between 4 element). And never, never, I will choose a class because of it’s current OP state. The nerf will always happen soon or late anyway (and for me, it is not moral)!
If you want to judge by pure efficiency, Guardians are the only class that has ALWAYS been meta since the game was released, in some form (mostly bunker, and lately dps). They always pack extremely valuable team support no matter what spec.
Actually I’ve seen people say that necro is extremely selfisch but it really is not.
Necro support mainly lies on removing conditions from allies and situationally heal allies. They are also very strong is resurrecting allies.
I’ve been able to stay whole teamfights in life force because of unholy martyr and minions that remove the conditions to enemies. You can be very tanky while having quite some dps!
And what about warrior ? I see it is not present in the meta, but I really enjoy playing it !

Warrior doesn’t really have a good tanky build at the moment since shout war got nerfed kitten the 6/23 patch. GS/Hammer’s not a bad build, but it’s more of a damage-based build and got hit pretty hard when Rampage got nerfed.
