[Suggestion] Prestige System
Well, I personally think that people are filling their heads with too much hot air as it is, and am grateful for the lack of carrots to chase and brag about. But if it would decrease queue times then by all means, Anet should totally go for it.
The progression of pvp is getting better as a player. What they should show is our mmr.

I’m not sure if adding more rewards is the step in the right direction. What pvp needs at the moment is proper matchmaking, the separation of solo and team players, functional leaderboards and sorting players by skill. We don’t need more players trying to farm rewards but rather more players interested in pvp experience in general. There are tons of things that needs to be done to improve the quality of life of pvpers, too. For example actually knowing how you stand, your MMR. To be able to do something between queues. To have the option to make a difference in your matches, not being completely dependent on luck and the players you’re with and/or against. As I do think that new rewards would be great, I can’t stress enough there are things that are needed to be fixed as soon as possible and those are not rewards. If we can’t have a healthy competitive pvp eviroment that offers the option to learn from your matches, then we might as well not get any rewards.
People don’t rank to 80 too fast. It is actually a fine pace. The issue is there is nothing to do once you get there. The OP’s suggestion is fine.
Actually, many people told ANET to think about this before they went live with the change. They chose not to listen.
Let’s not turn PvP into a grindfest, I’d much rather see MMR based achievements that actually encourage getting better at the game.

You can do r1 to r80 in a month if you are hardcore. Too fast for people like me.

But if others cannot see that progression via a visible indicator (title, finisher, gear, whatever), then what’s the point of becoming a better player?
It’s like playing invisibly- only you know and no one else does. Kind of defeats the purpose of being an MMO if your achievements are visible only to yourself. If we “just wanted to get better”, then we might as well play an offline game and hone our skills quietly in the darkness!
I only see this drawing in more PvE people to farm things, I don’t think many PvPers would like it.

Why would they not like it? More people to play against.

First of all facestomping against people that just started pvp isn’t fun, and more new players in this matchmaking=more chance you’ll be forced to play with them because MM queues you up with them based on your MMR.
Basically players with high MMR will be forced to carry lower MMR, and the disparity will get worse and worse. I’m all for the increase of pvp playerbase but adding pve element in pvp system results in people playing to farm instead of playing to win.

There is an easy solution to this. Revert the current grind based leaderboard to the old MMR based leaderboard.
No offense, but this is not a new system or original thought at all. This has been brought up, and even by me a year or so ago although Im not sure if it was on this forum or not. What they really need to do is make a way that people can get something out of getting rank 80. Yeah you get reward boxes, but lets be honest, those really dont cut it.
no longer affect the intended travel distance.

I just came back to the game after taking a year or two long break. Why is the leaderboard not based on MMR? Shouldn’t skill be the biggest factor in a leaderboard? If they want to make GW2 into a competitive PvP game, why the hell isn’t skill rewarded?
For someone who is not familiar with the pvp system in this game and wants to get into it, what is the incentive to winning a pvp match in this game if ranking doesn’t award skill?
I wouldn’t mind a prestige system like call of duty.
Listen before you flame me about referencing cod, someone who is high prestieged in cod, is at the very least decent at the game, and it would help weave out inexperienced from the experienced, but of course I would only allow tomes to be used 80 times per acct.

You know why? Because Anet listens to the forum a bit too much. Every week, there was a new thread about how “broken” the LB was, because of some guy on top with 40 games. I tried to explain how MMR volatility worked, how it would settled down with time, how Glicko 2 was the best LB system for a casual-friendly game like GW2, but I was pretty much alone in this fight. All these “pro-hardcore-players” were so delusional about their skill that they looked for a way to grind their way to the top. Now they have it, and still complain. Sad really.

since when do tomes help getting rank points in pvp?
