Already quit PvP. Just log in here and there to troll.
Q:
There are currently a few problems with the PvP Season
Suggestion: We should have a Preseason between PvP Season

I’d love to have a dev response on this suggestion. Thanks!

I like this idea. Not only does it serve to help the ranked players during the off season but the players that stick to unranked won’t have to face ESL players during the off season and thus making the game unfun for them. Which is what a game is all about anyways, having fun.
This is a better thought out version of what i’ve been thinking
To “keep” a population high, you need it to be high to begin with. At this point they only need to focus on balance, balance, balance, pvp population is next to non existent.
This suggestion tho, I really like it

Out of curiosity, what is the population like?

Guys, instead of trying to sabotage, this is your chance to support an idea that could make it all better for us.
@Everyone: if you like this idea, post a reply and say so! That’s how we can get ANet to reply on this
Good suggestion and one which has been around since s1.
Another one is that there is so little backward progress. The heart of the problem is that bad players can slowly grind there way up by waiting for lucky win streaks. And couldn’t fall back. Well to fix that they practically removed MMR, but that obviously removes all fun and sportsmanship from PvP. What they need to do is just implement backward progress (all tiers/divs losable) in all divs (even amber tiers) so that bad players can’t slowly grind there way up. Then you can have normal MMR matches again.

This is what they need to do. Amber is a pointless tier. Anyone who plays pvp will get out of it. It’ll take a bit longer, but for the second and third division this will also happen.
This sounds like a good idea. I don’t know how well it’ll work in practice, but in theory, it sounds like it could solve a lot of problems at once.
I know starcraft uses a series of 5 (I think?) placement matches for their ladder games so that you start off in an appropriate division. The one problem with that system is that those first 5 matches count a lot more towards your ladder ranking than the subsequent matches you play. This seems to solve that problem.
I’m guessing you are intending for preseason matches to take the place of ranked matches during the off-season, so that people still have the option to play semi-competitive unranked games that won’t affect their season standing. As long as we have a separate MMR for unranked matches (I believe that’s how the system currently works anyway), I think this is a great idea.

Not very high at all if all they can gather for the ELS finals world wide amounts to 7k concurrent viewers.
Really good idea!
ANet pls, hear the good feedback.
All they need to do is stop grouping me with horrible players half the time. After that, everything else would just fall into place.

Honestly, that’s a very shallow way of thinking.

At what point was it 7K all I saw was around 4k.

I’m a pretty shallow person. That does seem to be the argument made by people defending the current system though, “hey, I’m getting great teams and winning matches, so clearly there’s nothing wrong with the system.”

I don’t think that’s the point of this thread at all. Please read the original post again. It aims to help people like you. What else can I say when you don’t even understand that it helps you?
I love this idea. Yes, please.
This is a very good suggestion. We need something to change about the time ranked is disabled.
The only problem is that unranked queue remains a clusterkitten of PvErs doing their dailys, trolls with special snowflake builds and actually competitive people that have to deal with all that.
Then again from my personal experience (even though I hated most unranked matches) I started with quite a good mmr (atleast I winstreaked straight into sapphire with only decent teammates so I assume it). So maybe it still rated me accurately despite the subjectively kittenty match quality I experienced.
Yes, please! It can’t be fun being farmed at the start of a season and honestly, it just turns new players to pvp away.
I would love this… I hate how the current queue is all kinds of chaotic at first.
Nice detailed proposition. I think it would help a lot if it was implemented
Great suggestion. Honestly I believe ideas similar to this has been on everybody´s mind since S1. Pvp would benefit greatly if anything like it were to be implemented.
This is brilliant! I’m sure it’s not hard to implement and it solves multiple issues.
A brilliant idea. I support this. +1
I do support this but i don’t believe anet want’s to be competetive. Competition means you can demote if you start playing worse as long as we can’t demote devisions thus devision thing means nothing.
As long as matchmaking thinks it’s ok to put full premades against not full premades we won’t have a fair competition.
How can it be so hard to understand this cause anet clearly doesn’t don’t even look at other esports just look at how sports are in competitions ok you won’t be able to win all matches but there is a decent number of matches you can win and if you don’t you get demoted next season. We can’t have competition without demotion! Or fait (based on setup of premade parties) games. Sry to break it to you :p plz say if I’m wrong or out of line anywhere
the problem is that the preseason don’t fix the no fair matches…even top 20 ppl let name them team A-B-C-D where A have 1-5 B 6-10 and so on…
A beat B till A is far than 7 pips, so A queue time = inf.
now B is down to face C and win till can reach again A, and lose again..
C can now face D and go up to face B.
all end when all the team are at 7+ pips distance…
all the matches end 500-200 more or less.
what about all the rewards for progressing through the league i’d be missing out on?

This new system is already trying to match you with teammates of similar MMR.
Pick a time when there are more players playing, your experience might be better.

The new system matches him with similar MMR, not skill. and it put them up against anyone in pip range.
Suggestion: We should have a Preseason between PvP Season
- The Preseason will start as soon as the Season ends, and ends one day before the Season starts. This basically fill the gap between Season
- Matchmaking during the Preseason will use MMR. Match making during the Season will only use ladder ranking (no MMR).
- At the end of the Preseason, people will receive bonus pips based on their MMR. The amount should be tuned so the top players start around Emerald (for the very top players, they may get to Sapphire). The bonus pips will be applied at the start of the next Season, effectively bumps the top players out of Amber (all the rewards are still kept).
This is a solid idea. But, there will be a problem in starting people at emerald and sapphire. Forum will be filled with tears from winstreak heroes that moved past amber emerald easily thereby grabbing free 35 league tickets. So, essentially those people will be missing out on free 35 tickets. To avoid this ANET may have to change the reward system. Not sure if they can do that in the middle of 4 planned leagues (assuming based on achievements — year of ascension I thru IV) .
So, here’s what I think that can be done.
Maybe ANET can give league ticket coupons during pre-season. For example, you get 1 ticket coupon for every 10 wins in pre-season with a max of 35. I am just putting arbitrary numbers here. They need to proportion it out to the player’s league placement. Someone who is placed at sapphire at the beginning of the season will have to collect 35 tickets. Person who collected 15 will be placed at emerald. Person who collected zero will have to be at least rank 60 to be placed in Amber with 50 played matches. When the league season starts, the coupons can be exchanged for actual league tickets. They can even break it down further by placing people in certain tiers within a division based on how many coupons they collected. For example 10 coupon heroes will be placed in amber t3 while 20 coupon heroes will be placed in emerald t2 etc. This will keep people busy and everyone will remain connected to PvP.
I am proposing ticket coupons instead of tickets during pre-season because ANET wants to timegate this backpiece/glider acquisition. So, this system keeps ANET timegaters somewhat happy while playerbase engaged to PvP. Match made per minute will always remain high. Winstreak heroes won’t have a legit chance to complain.
That said, current loser vs. winner system will need some tweaking. It will work but, there needs to be some balanced matches. That will also mean high sustain or high dps meta gotta go.

I think you misunderstood my suggestion, so let me clarify it. People will receive bonus pips, which act just like the normal pips for rewards purposes. For example, as soon as the new Season arrives, I log in. The screen will show that I earned 35 pips due to my MMR during the preseason. It then plays the animation of gaining pips. Then I receive about 6 pips chests, including the League tickets.
Basically, imagine you get awarded pips at the start of the season. You won’t lose any reward at all. It’s the same as gaining those 35 pips normally by winning 18 matches in a row. The only thing missing is the reward track, but that’s fair.

i like it great idea man
briliant idea +1
what is there to say other then
brilliant idea +1
other then id love to see a dev comment on this idea whether its a yay or nay. All they need to do is give at least 1 word answers for us to see that they even read our ideas.
Our ideas should be taken as support for the game. so how about alittle support from the devs about how great or bad people idea are (at least a yay or nay). i dont need an explanation on every good or bad idea on why or why not it can/cant be programed into the game, just recondition that they see it and understand what there paying customers think about the current system.
I also would love to know just a simple yay or nay on this. I have 2 threads in my sig, both with overwhelmingly support, but not a single yay/nay from the Dev.
I say, make it so players you block, CAN’T be teamed up with you.
Now that we’re focusing on more QoL changes, would it be possible to implement this for the next pre-season?
This would be a nice idea if the game had a large pvp population, which matchmaking or anet can’t fix, unless people are actually going to say this game has a healthy population.
Bump!
Gotta love how Anet kill player’s passion on improving the game. Do they even read the forum now?

Yeah…HotM is empty in the off season and solo queueing in unranked is just musical chairs with the same 9 people over and over.
OMG, ANet decided to implement my suggestion! (although just half of it—but it makes me pretty happy xD).
At least now I don’t have to fight ambers at the start of the season. Now if they can let us queue outside of HoTM it would be great
