Suggestion: Top Stats = No lost pips

So now, how does one get top stats? Take capturing an uncontested node. It takes a single person to cap a point, any more are a waste of time. If all players on a team are batteling among themselves to get top stats, people will stubbornly stay on modes with the whole team only to get stats. This is just one situational that could occur. What im trying to say is: not only does top stats NOT nessicarily mean you were the best player, but making your stats influence pip gain will cause some childish gameplay.
Also, as said above, bunkers get 0 points while roamers get most.

Not going to happen. Like people already said, stats mean nothing. A bunker holding down a point will probably have less points and less top stats than a roamer, yet the bunker is crucial to their win.
I’m not talking about the points on the leaderboard at the end.. As you said, they mean nothing. I’m talking about all the other categories. The one’s that show you’re actually helping your team, like Point Defense. I haven’t looked at all of them, but they have a lot of individual categories that could be used to determine if you actually played well.

Almost everyone gets a top stat for something, since there are so many categories. So how would you determine who deserves to not lose a pip? The person with the most top stats? That just brings us back to where we started, saying that having the most top stats means nothing.

I’m just saying the information is there. It couldn’t be that hard to determine if someone was really helping their team, even though they lost. Anet wouldn’t even have to disclose what the factors were. Hell, we don’t even know what the formula is now. If you don’t know what stats you need to keep your pip, then you can’t abuse it.

Yeah yeah, I should have made it more clear that I meant stats other than total points..
What about total time spent on an actual point? Coupled with a basic kill/death ratio? If I could see the data of every match, I bet it would be pretty clear who was helping and who was hurting the team…
And bonus, MMR tankers would obviously not be eligible.

Technically, treb gives both points (10 per hit?), and has 3 different top stat catagories (top treb hits, most treb repairs, most treb’s destroyed). Similar issue on most maps (beasts on khylo, communes on temple, lord kills on foefire). With that system, you could see more “baddies” decide that a bad score means he should go commune a bunch of side buffs on temple, or rush beasts incessantly, etc.
If those were removed/discounted, maybe it would be okay? It adds complication to the system, which is one of those things ArenaNet seems to dislike. Same goes for k/d ratios and such, probably never going to happen for fear of toxicity.

terrible idea…will have people double and triple capping nodes…..No one will play bunker, completely through away any team mentality. GG

Guys. The idea is NOT terrible. It’s the way that it could be ABUSED that is terrible. The idea in itself is fine- most helpful player on the team does not lose a pip. That is great. The issue was only and is only how we go about determining this. If we can come up with a sound way to implement this, it would be awesome.
This guy is onto something. TOP STATS ARE LIFE! When I get top stats, not only do I know I contributed more to the game than any of my teammates (who needs them right?!?), but I actually find money under my pillow in the morning without needing to give up teeth.
Top stats are the only way to gauge skill, so I often spend the whole game running around decapping and hitting enemies who are fighting once then running away. This is the epitome of skill. No need to wait around and cap or finish off players, if any players actually die due to the efforts of my teammates, I get full credit. They really need to learn to play.
There was something like this on the old ladder system. If you lost but had the most points you would sometimes not lose a point on the ladder, or get 2 points for a win.
