Hotjoin

- Anet’s default servers should be removed and replaced by Normal Queue, the button to Queue should be the ‘’Play Now’’ Button in the browser, the same Button should be copied and pasted to the first page of the PvP menu. (Below Heart of the Mist button)

- The Normal Queue should have an ‘’Hidden MMR system’’ that balances teams while not making the players feel like they are evaluated. (It’s like writing for fun vs writing a test.)

- The Normal Queue should allow players in the same party to Queue together. (Similar Feature than League of Legends)

- The Normal Queue should instantly Queue right at the end of each match, similar to how hotjoin switches maps. (This is to give the players the convenience to never always have to Re-Queue.)

Solo Q

- Add Roles to Queueing, such as ‘’Home Defender, Bunker, Roamer’’

- Two of the same classes should not be in the same team.

- Add very Instructional Videos about every single role, as well as tips for rezzing, and stopping enemy rez. (Emphasize that Home Defenders should not always sit on home)

- Make leaderboards available in-game.

- Make Solo Q rewards significantly better depending on your position.

- Reduce the amount of Dishonored stacks required from 5 to 3. (This will help reduce the frequency of 4v5 while not punishing D/cers too much.)

Since our great Justin so nicely asks, I’ll give out suggestions for rewards that I’m sure most dedicated PvP’ers would love.

Rewards for Leaderboard positions.

- An Idea would be to add a new prefix for the current PvP titles (example: ’’Master’’),
the master prefix would be awarded to the player in function to his/her Leaderboard position.

Example: A player that has won 150 rated games with a warrior gains the ‘’Champion Legionnaire’’ title, this could be used as a requirement for the title ‘’Master Legionnaire’’ which would require 150 rated wins while in the top 200 in either Solo Q or Team Q leaderboards.

- This system could also be used with the current rank titles.

Example: Assuming PvP score titles would be changed to total rank points earned, instead of total score points earned. A rank 40 could upgrade his ’’Ransacker’’ title to the ‘’Master Ransacker’’ title by being able to acquire 150 rated wins while in the top 200 in either Solo Q or Team Q leaderboards. (This could help distinct the farmers from the legit players.)

- Weekly reward chests for player participations in rated games, players that have played ~30games would be eligible for the weekly reward chests, these chests would contain a different reward depending on player ladder rank.

Example: Gold Chest for players in the top 100 (Team Q gold chest would contain greater rewards), Silver Chest for players in the top 300 and Bronze Chest for those in the top 500. These chest would give large amounts of rank points as-well as giving away a unique currency used to buy VERY RARE SKINS, like PvP legendaries. (PvE rewards could also be a great addition to this, like gold or gems or extra laurels)

LeaderBoard Ranks and player Names

- Similar to the world completion star an Icon displaying LeaderBoard ranks should be added to the player names.

Example: A sword aiming downwards should be added on the left side of the Player’s name, the sword should be very small to avoid names from being cluttered, colors of the sword would represent the LB ranks, gold for top 100, silver for top 300, and bronze for top 500, probably red for top 1000. (Team Q Icon would be Cross-Swords instead of a single one, Team Q Icon should also overwrite the Solo Q as it is more important.)

Why?: To make players travelling in the PvE world become more interested in PvP, and allow PvP’ers to show off what they achieved. This could help populate SPvP!

Note:These are simple Ideas that I believe would only do good for Gw2’s PvP, tell me if I should add something, or if you think something in here would be bad for the game.

This really needs to happen.

I’m new to sPvP. The current hot-join option is not intuitive to a new user. You typically have two cases.

(1) The player has multiplayer experience. In this case, the player sees custom games and immediately thinks of custom games. That’s what I thought. You don’t know what you’ll get (there can be player imposed rules, who knows if the match will let you in, the list is massive, etc). In which case, you immediately look else where. My first pvp match was tournament for this reason.

(2) The player is new. In this case, the situation is not intuitive. There is a massive list that you have to pick something from. It’s not intuitive on how to just enter a pvp map. (Like the hotjoin style of activities).

I really hope the hotjoin gets its own entry button. Make it like activities. Easy in, easy out.

My interpretation of what he was suggesting in that quote was that at higher ranks the matches should theoretically be more difficult in that the skill involved should also reflect in the rewards.

In an ideal system I would support that suggestion. As it stands right now there would need to be different tiers and the LB should be reset before anything like that is implemented.

Every player with a little intelligence had already known from the first day, that Hotjoin will be the cancer of PvP.
It created a big mass of people having no idea about the concept of conquest. It created a zergfest, a brainless grind. It created skyhammer farmer (the reason why people instantly call you a skyhammer-farmer if you have a rank above 50). You took away an indicator of effort and skill with hotjoin. Rank is meaningless, due to the fact hotjoin exist.

Hotjoin servers split the PvP community into a PvP that is not taken seriously, a PvP that can force you to switch teams and that develops bad habbits and zerging. It allows 8v8 in maps that were designed and balanced for 5v5. On top of that, it is possible for a friend to tell you the exact locations of the enemies via spectator mode.

The entire system is a plague and a stain on how PvP was mean’t to be played. I don’t see ANYTHING good about hotjoin, other than the fact its not taken seriously at all. (Which means it might as well not give glory at all.)

Solo Q supports a wide amount of players interested into competitive play. The more populated a game is, usually is a function on how well its going to do. Even if those players don’t have teams. They spread the news and create statistics.

Everyone has opinions, Its good to express them, but attempt doing so in a way that less people could be offended.

If the ppl in the East demant HJ to be removed ( even in WoW more than 50% o the subs are from china) , i expext the old timers to make a blog saying <<the top players from EU+ Usa + Asia demended Hj to ve removed + a lot harsher leaver penalty like LoL>> , then i will shut up my mouth and never speak again .

hot join is working as intended. a playground for casual sPvP players.

as for glory gain, they fixed this by increasing glory rewards for solo arena and team arena.

the sPvP community is meant to be separated.

casual sPvPers and non-casual sPvPers do not mix well together.

Those are some very good suggestions.
I would also like to dump some of ideas into this (hopefully) future balance patch. Is it possible for programmers to put a system into the game. A system where before anyone enter the soloque/teamque maps they will have to enter a code on the screen (just like captions) you will get 3 tries before you go into the map. If you fail to enter the captions 3 times it clearly proofs that you are afking and will make the game unfair. So the client will reque this player up again until the player get the caption right. Meanwhile the client find another active player (that have similar rating) and give them a chance to get into a match.
This way the chance of getting into 4vs5 will be significantly lower. Also this will discourage people just go afking on their team’s expense.

as said in other threads:
add weapon/armor skins that are only obtainable through pvp but can be used in pve (just like zenith or similar); right now i can be most amazing pvp’er but can barely show off for that and at the end people like skins and show off with them (look at fractals)

also as said before too: you should be certain rank before you can do tournament matches (be it 10 for all i care, as long as person entering matches is not completely new to game); LoL has it, you have to be lv 30 archived by doing normal pvp games before you can do ranked matches

One only of each profession would increase wait times. There is a big difference between a meditation guardian and a bunker. There is no reason both can’t play in a match. The system would them have to recognise that they are different and therefore allowable. You have to remember the Pvp community is tiny by comparison to PvE/WvW..this system has pro’s which all depend upon the player base being significantly large 24/7..which currently it is not. Looking at how many people are in spvp currently..I count 41…so match making in this exact instance would mean any player rank 40+ would be waiting a long time..especially if they are using a profession that is currently being over represented.

These are only suggestions for hotjoin and solo Queue, and why would casuals be punished by the removal of Hotjoin servers? They get a normal Queue which matches them up against players of similar skill so they always improve. Hotjoin servers are just a bad learning experience overall, I don’t think your point stands much buddy.

But I do agree that PvE/WvW players need to be brought in pronto, and this might only be accomplished by adding PvE rewards which I heard devs bring up multiple times.

Actually, 5v5 was the original game mode and this was replaced with 8v8, then added again later. Hotjoin, casual or not, still needs to be consistent with Solo/Team Q. Making it 5v5 and encouraging — not forcing — hotjoin players to play PvP as it’s intended is what PvP needs.

when i joined the first beta weekend, there are already 8 vs 8 hotjoin servers. not sure what you were talking about.

8 vs 8 is ideal for hotjoin servers because if one person leaves in a 5 vs 5 hotjoin server, it becomes a 4 vs 5 and the rest of the match will not be that good.

in a 8 vs 8 hotjoin server, if one person leaves, 7 vs 8 is still not that bad.
8 vs 8 hotjoin servers must stay.

yes, it is forcing if you ask for the removal of public anet 8 vs 8 hotjoin servers.

sPvP needs more players.
at the moment, the WvW / PvE players are not bothered because
- stats not the same (WvW PvP players)
- not rewarding enough (PvE players)

some 8 vs 8 hotjoin players will never or hardly play in solo arena / team arena. because they enjoy playing in 8 vs 8 hotjoin servers and not solo arena / team arena.

8 vs 8 hotjoin servers:
- less waiting time (only 10 seconds countdown to new game start)
- drop in and drop out anytime
- battles, battles everywhere in a full 8 vs 8 server
- do what you want (kill, support, capture, roam, flee)
- win? bonus
- lose? doesn’t matter. did you have fun?
- 8 vs 6? doesn’t matter. auto balance will help.
- etc

5 vs 5 solo arena / team arena:
- long waiting time. (after getting into a match, wait 2 minutes to start)
- cannot drop in and drop out
- players have bad attitude
- serious issue of elitism
- cannot really do what you want
- forced to play the game in the “intended” way.
- 5 vs 4 is not fun
- etc

once again, stop forcing casual sPvP players to participate in non casual sPvP content. not everyone wants to be part of that. stop shoving it down our throats.

The popularity of pvp needs to be increased a lot before we can have things like queueing with roles and matches not starting until sides have certain roles and eliminating duplicate roles etc. Not to be mean but it’s really pie in the sky at this point.

Work from the problem down, not straight to a solution or you’ll end up no better than Anet.

Many games have shenanigans modes.
Many games have a ‘split’ community, that’s good.
It means the game is broad enough that many different kinds of people can fall into its playstyles….

You have to realize, not everyone plays a game to be super serious…
Especially in MMOs.
Shenanigans attracts a fair number of players.

Your only issue with those people seems to be that they infest (lol) your ranked que… when you want to play the game seriously they are there kittening it up (a valid point).
But that’s entirely an issue with match setup, not MMR, not just ‘the existence of hotjoin’.

You seem to want that ‘cancer’ (lol) to just avoid you, which is fine, the issue then is that they need a place to occasionally go for Q based conquest matches, one that doesn’t touch your ranked matches.

Because of that…
Destroy hotjoin???
Force people to play GW2 your way or GTFO?

Right now players’ only choices of gameplay are ranked or super shenanigans…
Give a middle ground and people that aren’t super serious will go there instead of dealing with your ranked que.

That can happen with your que idea, but why kill hotjoin in the process?
Adding in an unranked-Q feature to the tourny NPC and make a rank 20~, or so many unranked-Q match, requirement to do ranked tournies(like every other game with ranked matches does) would seem to be enough to appease you… you know… without further beating up on players in a game with a depressingly small population…

Since you ask us to tell what could be added here are my “2 cents”.

Rewards for Leaderboard Positions

Prefixes for current titles: excellent idea

Weekly reward chests: totally agree on you for this one except it shouldn’t be legendary mats. It should JUST be unique armor/weapon skins. Combined with gold, laurels and rank points.

Other idea for cosmetic rewards you could add for extremely dedicated players(top100)

  • if rank 1-20 for 30 consecutive days you get acces to a gold trimmed cape for 1 month.
  • if rank 21-50 for 30 consecutive days you get acces to a silver trimmed cape for 1 month.
  • if rank 50-100 for 30 consecutive days you get acces to a bronze trimmed cape for 1 month.
  • each cape would be unique per profession(some kind of COOL image representing the profession). You have acces to your cape on every character.

If you have earned a particular cape 3 times(with gold counting as silver and bronze and silver counting as bronze aswell), you will be able to customize the cape in the following way:

  • Bronze cape: allowed to change the border style so it’s made of points, waves, and the like
  • Silver cape: allowed to change the border style and the background color to your liking but still the same profession image and border color.

Prefixes in general sound like a great idea. To take from the recent Pokemon, there’s a Battle Chateau where you work your way up from a Viscount, to Earl, Baron, etc.

I’m not being selfish here buddy, I’m just giving my 2 cents. Its Anet’s game and not mine, if they think its better for the game to have a normal Queue replace hotjoin then that will be their decision and NOT mine.

And I don’t quite understand why that would kill the game for casual players, Normal Queue wouldn’t be as serious… you’d just get a few more points if you win… just like hotjoin. You could play with your friends and just do w/e you want, you’d still have fun since there’s no rating (No one would really care as much, and for those who DO care alot about winning would be matched with other serious players, because of the hidden MMR). The only thing Hotjoin has more than normal Queue is 8v8 (They should just make maps better balanced for 8v8 and then allow you to Queue for 8v8).

It would give players (especially new ones) a better idea on how to actually fight and retain a base as opposed to looking for the biggest group to zerg with. Also, I believe that the introduction of new game modes in sPvP would bring more players in due to the increased selection. Larger maps (20-24 players total) with dedicated mechanics or even defense-style games (2-rounds, teams switch) would definitely be interesting – at least for hotjoins.

The reason I’m not asking to force hotjoin for 5v5 is because loosing someone in 5v5 would make a 5v4 which is a HUGE difference from 7v8, and not only that but the teams in 5v5 only get filled at the mid-game which is a turn-off.

  • if rank 1-20 for 30 consecutive days you get acces to a gold trimmed cape for 1 month.
  • if rank 21-50 for 30 consecutive days you get acces to a silver trimmed cape for 1 month.
  • if rank 50-100 for 30 consecutive days you get acces to a bronze trimmed cape for 1 month.
  • each cape would be unique per profession(some kind of COOL image representing the profession). You have acces to your cape on every character.

Its a good idea, but if you do play PvP for 30 days, your kinda guaranteed to jump up and down in the leaderboards as they are unstable, I would raise the ranks for the rewards, but then… too many people would have it.

Maybe making the time shorter, let’s say 2 weeks on a specific rank = 2 weeks acces to a cape. Then 6 times one cape = customizeable cape ?

The ultimate solution would be “seasons” where every month people can “inscribe” themselves into a season, but say only top 500 is allowed. And then you get these rewards based on your position at the end of the month. Obviously this would be for teams(5v5,3v3/2v2) or 1v1 only if that will every be a reality

hot join allows for quick drop in and drop out games. flexibility.
queued games are fixed, from start to finish. no flexibility.
do you understand this?

swapping mid match and auto balance are part of hotjoin games.
hotjoin games are working as intended. there is no need to fix what is not broken.

you should play solo arena / team arena if you want all those things that you mentioned.

So I take it you saw that I didn’t say you were right…. which I guess, you know, is basically, it’s pretty much the same thing as saying you are a selfish kitten who is going to kill the game for all casuals…
