Alright everyone, version 2.20 is out! http://bit.ly/SupcutieGuide

Changelog is in the guide, but basically I updated the matchups section for new meta, updated build, added a few protips, fixed a few grammar errors, and added the Services section which talks about the paid services I now offer!

Let me know what you think!

ZOMG the greatest mesmer has returned with an updated guide to teach us plebs how to survive in this meta!

My body is ready. I love the celestial amulet with torment on shatter changes. Great idea!

Interesting that you rate celestial D/D ele and engie as easy-medium matchups. Are you talking about purely off-point 1v1 duels? Or do you also find them fairly easy to take out in tPvP? Not criticizing (since you almost certainly know way more than I do) — just curious.

D/D ele is medium-hard since you don’t have much cleanse. You have to really make sure and avoid the burning/transfer it with generosity.
Engi is easy because they can’t really hit you with any good damage at range. You should be able to dodge their nades, and you will always out trade them in damage. Off point you should always make engi run away. On point, you’ll have to be careful as I mention in the guide, since you’ll be closer to their area of effectiveness.

very nice guide. Shows that Mesmer are a good spot as long as the thief is not chasing them

They’re not really in a good spot

Mesmer was in a good place relative to other classes in the beginning of the game (a lot of things were out of wack though), but more recently it’s relative effectiveness has become distanced from the meta. In context of the current cele ele/engi/condi/3 point strat meta, Mesmer’s current relative effectiveness is rather low. Hence Helseth switching to Necro, and me switching to Necro/Engi/and Thief (again).

The bottom line is that celestial amulet simply needs a nerf. I haven’t done the math for how many points off of each stat would be good, but the vote is unanimous. Everyone is on the same page that it’s ridiculous. Alternatively, you could nerf ele/engi sustain, but I think celestial is probably a better approach since it would create harder choices between celestial and other amulets.

how it is possible ? You can simply kill everyone in 1on1 but thief.

We see in top games like the finals in china that phanta fights rom for hours. A mesmer does not have to fight that long. Many teams playing cele engi and you wrote in your guide that this matchup is easy for you. So why do not isolate the engi vs mesmer and your team rotate to different points so that the mesmer can kill and cap one point.

In the current meta with ele, engi, warrior nobody can touch you in 1on1

The problem is that you never really get a 1vs1. If the person you are fighting is losing they will just call for back up and you cannot sustain in a 2v2/ 3v3 as long as other classes(esp if you are running portal). Plus, why take the fragile mesmer as a 1v1er when you have engi, ele, war that could 1v1 and skirmish with really good sustain?

yes I understand. But looking at the guide it looks like a mesmer can kill everything but thief. And looking at the low and mid skill games where the rotations are mostly bad the mesmer is killing like a truck. Maybe on top tier games the teams are rotating to the mesmer so he is not that powerful. But the mesmer is the only char at the moment that kills someone < 5sec. Going healthpool from 100% to 10% after 1 shatter looks funny in top tier games.

Lupanic, why not have a mes 1v1 is a good question. The answer which PhDusk mostly got is that the current rotational meta is such that fragile glass classes like mes/thief are better rotating around to fights and ganking, rather than 1v1ing. Current 1v1ers actually need to be viable 1v2ers, because since it is a conquest gametype, if you have someone who can sustain on point for a while, then you can out number elsewhere in advantageous fights.
Sure a mesmer could win 1v1s, but it’s a riskier 1v1, and you’re completely susceptible to 1v2s. The better strategy is to completely avoid that risk by having something like a d/d ele 1v1 (which can stalemate or win most 1v1s), and then if a thief ganks them, they can live long enough for you to a win fight elsewhere or follow the thief to reinforce.
Does that help?

Also I just fixed my original post. It had some incorrect information in it.
I also added a video with some decent positioning on Legacy Vs. Abjured. So check that out! I’ll link it here too: http://bit.ly/vsabjured
