Problem:
At the moment, there are classes being able to spam targets on the map.

Ranger: Spirit Rangers + Pet (5 extra Targets)
Necromancer: Minions (5 Extra Targets)
Mesmer (3 targets)
Thief (3 targets)

- Players also ALWAYS use ASURA with ridiculous small targets hiding in the mess.
And the Asura dyed in dark colour, animation, makes it even harder to see and target.
- ASURA was smaller than the minion and spirit.

Results:
- Lots of Asura (50%) in a game
- Lots of spirit rangers
- Spamming targets in the screen without REAL skills

Suggested Solution:
Why not add an option like tickbox to make the targeting for players only, rather than both players, summoned and neutral object?
I am sure this change is easy to make and fair to all classes. .
Any comments?

Mesmer QQ they cant confuse players with clones anymore…even though Anet stated that they aren’t supposed to be a defence in that way. Personally i think its needed.

The game definitly needs something like that (either this or make pets generally untargetable unless you click on them). Only exception should be mesmer clones, as it is their purpose to be targetable, therefor they don’t deal dmg.

If i remember correctly Anet stated that clones were not supposed to be used as decoy’s but rather a fuel for damage from shatters.

i agree with the exception of mesmer clones (they are there to confuse the enemy)
(phantasms can be skipped as they are just there for the damage)

If i remember correctly Anet stated that clones were not supposed to be used as decoy’s but rather a fuel for damage from shatters.

If I remember correctly then mesmers were designed to defend themselves through deception. A non-targetable clone wouldn’t quite fit this role. Beside that, there aren’t only shatter mesmers.
I can’t quite take ArenaNet’s statements seriously anymore. Somehow I really got the feeling that every single “old” developer either left ArenaNet or got replaced with a new one that doesn’t have any idea about the game. Just some examples – “We want to enable more builds for the elementalist.” “We don’t want grinding.” “The Queen is gonna say something spectacular.” “Every decision you make will have major influence on your character.” etc. pp.

The big thing that was in gw1 was a “target nearest” that actually worked

I just wanted to make a post about this topic as well after playing a game of search the necromancer on skyhammer. Two minion necros were defending the hammer the entire game and the screenshot was the result. I could have fought them, but it was impossible for me to target them and I don’t even want to think about projectiles.
Also these minion specs in general form a kind of chaos that is probably not intended by Anet. It is so much easier to fight a warrior, because you can actually see what they are doing and it is possible to dodge key attacks.

a target-player only option definitely needs to be in the game

this game is too fast-paced to have to tab through a bunch of pets. ive so many times been killed or halved before i can even target my enemy

the idea of it is sooo dumb that i could be staring right into the face of my enemy yet i have to hit tab 4 times before i can actually attack him

9 times out of 10 clicking is impossible. try clicking on a ranger with his 4 spirits and pet bunched on you

mesmer is worse with the constant stealthing. i could spend whole fights just trying to target a mesmer. as soon as id target him, hed stealth and it starts all over again

this gives ai running classes too big of an advantage. they get a valuable 2-5+ seconds where their enemies are playing against the ui instead of playing against them, and we all know that it only takes a few seconds to die or take massive damage

so please please please make this an option. it would increase the enjoyability of pvp 100% for me. and thank you anet staff for all that you do
