TPvP Team Rankings - Reset Justification
ArenaNet,
First off, thank you for the recent addition of Solo Queue. That will provide lone wolf players an opportunity to play competitive matches without starting at a HUGE disadvantage of playing against a premade group with some experience of how to play together and rotate as a group.
That being said; I sincerely think you’re really missing an opportunity here to remove the junk & doubt from the rankings and get people back on a level playing field.
Lots of premade groups have greatly benefited from playing against teams of solo queued players at an extreme disadvantage and have ballooned up the rankings. Now, with the addition of solo queue, this is the perfect opportunity to bring it all back together.
I think at least a soft reset would be beneficial to bring the masses closer together. I’ve personally clawed my way through hundreds of matches as the solo queued underdog. Now that there’s an arena for that, I feel at a huge disadvantage if I wanted to start participating in team matchups.
I hope you re-consider a reset. If not now, is it in your immediate plans to implement “seasons” or something along those lines?
Respectfully,
Tamzooka
+1
Respect, you’re one of a kind!
Thanks. I think it would be the right thing to do and I was honestly rather surprised when I noticed it hasn’t been reset.
But are there even 200 teams to populate the initial leader board in the first place? Even if there are, how many would there be? 300 teams? 1000 teams? By resetting the leader boards a #1001 could, for example, become 21% (due to small population).
yeah reset is good since most of the wins of premades come from noobstomping solo queuers. so its not reflective of what it is “TEAM Q LADDER”.
I would prefer if they copied the old leaderboards to SoloArena cause at SoloArena now we have to start new and build up a ranking and rating… when most of the players at the old system already queued solo and they could just take that old rating and use it there(and start the TeamArena with a new leaderboard).
because both were together once, i thought there is no doubt in starting both ladders completely new.
that being said, i don’t like the idea of seasons though. because seasons kind of invite people to tank the ladder after getting good positioning once
no gutz no glory
“Tranquility has a beard.”
Lots of premade groups have greatly benefited from playing against teams of solo queued players at an extreme disadvantage and have ballooned up the rankings.
^very true not much to add to this!
The game needs seasons like half a year or something so people who rose to the top once wont be able to sit on their MMR for playing only a few games each month.
In fact i would have prefered that solution and no leaderboard decay in the first place.
anyway /bump and /request
Another possibility is that they simply let everything stand and the ratings will simply adjust itself to take into account the lack of Premades vs SoloQers.
Actually, this is what Arenanet will probably do given their history, since the ratings do not really mean much and it will kitten off less people in the long run.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
A ladder reset for teams is overdue. The “idle penalty” clearly isn’t working, the ladder is clogged with inactives and bloated records from a time when the matchmaking was wildly imbalanced (it never was perfect, but it has improved over time).
If not a reset, then reconfigure the ranking system to only account for the last 200-250 games played or the last 60 days. I believe it would be a far more accurate representation of skill level that way.
I can’t imagine the pro-types would really be all that worried about a ladder reset at this point. The community is small, they all know each other, and they all know that the ladder doesn’t mean squat anyway.
Resetting the ladder might even be helpful to them to the extent that it would point out people who are playing really well, but are not yet “in the circle” due to having played their skill level up significantly from their beginnings, or just played at obscure times and not really gotten a chance to be seen.
Some excellent points here. Thanks for contributing to the discussion, all. I am intrigued by the idea of only counting last xx days, but would prefer a race back from the beginning.
You know, my experience in LoL showed me people become VERY engaged during resets and really try hard and enjoy themselves. Provides somewhat of a “purpose”
Ironically, I think both Team Arena and Solo Arena need resetting. I’m sure like 10% of the pvp population would fight such resets (10% of the pvp population may amount to something like 0.001 of the gw2 community) but the OP is right in his argument.
Current Team Arena LB is a mixture of solo/premade anyway, and current Solo Arena LB has issues with syncing. A soft reset would be nice – I’m sure all the top players will eventually end up back at the top too.
Hows about we set a date anet, like right after PAX ? :p
We can be hopeful. Now’s the ideal time to do it, in my humble opinion.
I was very much hopeful a developer would join in on the dialogue and provide some insight. Devs, are you there?
Further cementing my personal notion that team rankings were skewed by solo players vs. premades and could use a reset is the fact that I’ve won 9 of 11 solo arena matches thus far, and the level of difficulty feels a lot lower.
Reset the rankings, please, and give everybody a fair shot. Not only those that played exclusively with their band of buddies.
The solo-queuers were the ones keeping the game healthy by continuing to participate.
