Please fix tab targetting so it prioritises players and not net turrets, flesh golems or sun spirits…..
Seriously…
Particularly with all the crap people have then some tiny asura in the middle of it.

It would be interesting if tab targetting ignored all pets, with the exception of clones. Tab targetting through pets should be an optional keybind feature.
No, it should ignore clones too.
to much GD spam on the screen.

absolutely
but maybe as an option (like “exclude pet targeting” checkbox) because there might be people who want to target those things – i just dont know why, but there might…
I wouldn’t mind if they improved click targeting as well: Currently people are rolling small asuras and hiding INSIDE their pets (like Flesh golem), making them impossible to target since mouse selection picks the larger object. Mouse targeting should select the player if the pet and player are overlapping.
Honestly, if they fixed that, tab targeting could stay the way it is. It would be nice to have both improved, but mouse-targeting has a better skill:reward ratio in this case since it requires some hand-eye coordination compared to mashing tab furiously.
+1 The same thoughts came to my mind this morning, when I tried targeting an mm necro in midfight, it took me way too long.

Agreed! Tab-targeting works the same way as it did in GW1; minions, pets and clones are all enemies thus targetable.
Mouse-targeting is the problem. Even if it looks like I’m clicking on an enemy the game doesn’t select them.
I’m pretty much forced to cycle through everything with tab.
PLEASE improve the targeting system. It’s got to be one of the biggest everyday frustrations when I cannot target what I want to (Continuously clicking a target only for it to select a player/mob that is slightly closer, I then spend 2-3 seconds trying to shift my camera around to target the right player/mob).
Players should be much more visible compared to their minions/pets/clones as well as have a larger click area than their minions/pets/clones. Tab target should start with Players and proceed to minions after all player targets are exhausted.
i think some1 made this post a few days after beta
YES———————-
+1, I’ve brought this up before.
Nothing more frustrating than trying to target a engi amongst his drop crate, a ranger amongst his spirits + pet.
Mesmer clones I can deal with because that’s the whole point of the clone mechanic.
+1. On our list. Seriously though, we have already been making small fixes to mouse selection. We have a whole page dedicated to targeting issues we plan to fix. How about the issue where you cant select targets through invisible walls. i.e. the dividing walls between side points and keep in Forest.

TBH, rather have tab targeting deal with Player vs. AI better than having it go through walls right now.

Target nearest enemy PLAYER, this will fix all target issues.

Yep, i’d rather an option too, to turn off pet targeting completely.

The problem is if it just picks the nearest enemy player then that looses the hide strategy. So it actually would not fix all of them.

What hide strategy?
[sarcasm]
Agreed, I would also like the option to target nearest enemy STEALTHED player?
[/sarcasm]
I agree that it is a pain to target the actual player right now. Especially, shatter mesmers, MM necro’s, spirit rangers, oh and while we’re at it all those bloody rock dogs that everyone seems to run around with.
But certain professions use their “pets” as a defense, its part of the survivabilty. Mesmer is the prime example of this. Our clones specifically look like us, to confuse the enemy in the heat of battle. You simple can’t add a target ability that bypass’s a profession mechanic/tactic. Where do you stop? If you can quickly target a necro in the middle of all his pets, why shouldn’t I be able to target a stealth thief?
(edited by SlimChance.6593)
It would also be nice if like in GW1 and most other MMOs if we could at least see the hostile foes on the mini map as red dots, that way when we do have a target tabbed it highlights which one on the mini map.
Oh and also 360 tab targeting not just in front might be helpful at least let it be an option.
Gw1 had a really nice feature where when you pressed tab it would select the enemy that you were “looking at.” Basically you could aim your camera at a target and when you pressed tab it would select the enemy closest to the middle of your screen. The tab targeting in gw2 seems to have no rhyme or reason to what is selected next, going from someone off to your right to someone behind you to someone on the other side of the map u.u
I suggested this months ago.
You can’t tab cycle through every summon in a competitive game relying on clutch reactions.
So it’s an improper strategy to pop turrets, clones, summoned allies, and minions to make it harder for enemies to target you? That is counter-intuitive to me.
I think it’s fine if objects produced from consumables are skipped, but I think it’s unfair to basic profession mechanics to treat clones differently.

Try the C button, it works similarly.
ok some of these post are beyond kittenation … obviously a mesmer clone should be consider as a player since its the whole point of a “clone” but not a rock dog/pet/summon or whatever else there is in this game. why would u tab to an invisible player?
but take this for example yesterday i killed a thief in wvw he teleported in front of a yellow board, so my vision was —>thief-->and a few meters away board i do a quick tab and shadow shot .. guess to what thing i get teleported? to the kitten board, or today i was figthing a ranger who was infront of me and his pet was behind me, for some magical reason i loose target so i just tab real quick looking at the ranger in front me guess what did i tab to ? -.-

It would also help if we didnt have to turn off autotargeting because it ruins retreat leaps. Instead it should just not trigger when holding down rightclick.

All my keys are completely remapped…What does the default C do?

Clones only confuse very new players.
why shouldn’t I be able to target a stealth thief?
Because that would make stealth, as well as the whole thief class useless?
Targetting a stealthed target = might as well take stealth out.
It’s not a invuln and it doesn’t stop any sort of damage…being able to target someone while in stealth is the worst idea ever.
My favourite target issue is when your dodge skills go directly backward from the target (even though using double tap in a direction not backwards) or when your ground target skills act as target skills (that isn’t weird at all).
+1 for not targeting pets. +1billion for removing Mesmer clones
How about mesmers who stand inside thier clones? Can’t target them even if you have 20s of no pressure to do so.
No, it should ignore clones too.
to much GD spam on the screen.
I feel like 1/2 my difficulty with other classes is due to all the spam and kitten to try to target through.

For GW1 C is target closest enemy, for some odd reason its not in GW2 I quickly changed that in my config almost as fast as I turned on the game clock (after years of using C to “reset” my tab targeting if I over did it I just couldn’t live without it XD).
+1 to anything helping to target actual players through clusterfug of AI things on the screen at once. It’s a real disappointment to have such a good PvP engine that gets watered down to just letting AI do the dirty work, and camera angles keeping you from zooming out far enough to make light of them. It almost feels as if it’s an intended game design to make part of PvP “find the player”.
Last night I faced 2 Spirit rangers (Azuras) running around together. It was a nightmare – I was being killed before I could target anyone. So it like what? 4 spitits + pet per player = 12 targets and only 2 players that are smaller then their spirits?
Can you do something for the right click targeting too ? I’m tired of targeting people while i’m clicking on right click on my mouse to change the axe of my camera to see around me.
Targeting should be left click, not right click since we need it to change the camera view and a lot of time it target someone because you need to be fast…
There was an option added a month or two ago to disable interact on right-click.
Mouse targeting is doing some pretty lame things. We have cleaner versions we’re trying out now. Most notably: Selection radii appears to be far too large. Also, you cannot select new targets in front of your current target.
If possible, change the cursor to a more visible one, many times I lose in the fight chaos.

Also an issue on our list along with finding your selected target.
could u look at issue with single target skills not hitting the target that u have selected its dire to try and fight any profession with pets/clones/turrets as they often take the ability with a body block
Please for the love of god make Tab targeting actually select the nearest player! I don’t care where my mouse is looking. When I press tab I want to target the person attacking my side not the person 50 ft. away.

Intended I believe, so tankier players can physically (though not under Australian lag easily) get in front of skills to save other players. There are some skills that ignore this as well (such as ele air 2 and 3 on sceptre)
In regards to targeting issues: Will something like combat mod ever be supported?
Can we geat leap skills and all variants to not be affected by auto-targetting? It’s currently near impossible to use skills like Ride the Lightning to escape if you have that option turned on, but turning it off creates many annoying situations for some of us. Especially when a target comes out of stealth, I don’t need to manually target them again.
Also, for the sake of streamlining targetting, and this might certainly affect balance, can stealth be changed to hide but not lose targetting? So when a targetted opponent comes out of stealth, it’ll automatically target them again if they were the last targetted foe. And mayben to not be so harsh to thieves and for the sake of some extra strategy/ defense, stealth could only drop targetting completely if the stealthed character moved far away from their opponent.

The fact that you have to pan the camera or turn around to find a reappearing target by mousing over it and clicking is ridiculous and no serious pvp will take place because of that.
Tab targetting should always ignore pets/clones/NPCs. Just put that option in. Mouse clicking should be reserved for pets and clones.
Introduce a target lock option where you always target a certain opponent as soon as they pop out of stealth or clone.
You reduced any non-mesmer/thief players into mouse clickers. That is a big advantage to the opponent.
I don’t see how it’s fair that a mesmer/thief never loses a non stealthing/cloning class as a target while everyone else does.
The imbalances in this game are just out of control.

Please, consider This seriously

It’s intended. Projectile based skills get intercepted by walls/players/clones/bump in the floor.

Great stuff Evan but I would like to add something relevant as well.
For instance, this whole thread
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/MOUSE-ATTACK-BOTTON-STOPPED-ATTACKING
Also to add a couple
1.Cursor suddenly disappears and then re-appears.
2.Not able to change the axe of the camera towards left.
Just generally far too many to mention mouse-based issues playing this game; mouse fluidity is sub-par currently if you get what I mean.
Hopefully you will fix all if not most of this issues in one single update.

This would be a separate bind called ‘Target Nearest’. Tab targeting is meant to cycle through targets with some priority that may or may not start with your closest target. For instance, tab could prefer targets towards the center of your screen, and not necessarily the closest.

Its really nice to see someone giving us a heads up on what’s being worked on. I know you have a company policy against giving dates, but the comment about the invisible walls showed how much you care about polishing up the game.
Players, myself included, appreciate that.

Evan, since we are at it, a few months ago you were right about to implement a fix, so that when interaction windows popped up on your screen (like a tournament match), you didn’t get kicked out of your chat windows interrupting whatever you were in the process of typing. For some reason this never went through and I wonder what happened.
Any chance for this to be happening anytime soon, because it is still as annoying as it ever was.

This fix is done on a case-by-case basis. If there are more windows that need to not do that, just let me know. I applied the fix to the death breakdown (no longer relevant), the scoreboard, and the overflow redirect.
