Tactic against Mesmers
Run away.. look for a place to hide and never leave it until the game is over..
Well, if your looking for something that doesn’t depend on the type of mesmer I’d suggest aoe. Lots of aoe. When I play a mesmer I personally go for condition damage with a staff, so heavy condition removal would shut down the majority of my offensive ability. Other than that all I can say is bring a team member with you.
Dont get to close to the illusions, spam aoe , ??? profit. Seriously though, shatter hurts. The illusions move slowly towards you, usually in a circle. They also have little hp so one hit is enough to tell if its the real one or not. Clones also dont have conditions or buffs, burn is pretty usefull that way. A pretty cheap tactic is to call them out as targets once you have identified the real one ctrl+left click which i hope they fix. Thats all i can think of atm.
I’m a level 80 Elementalist but I’m a noob to PvP. Recently I’ve been finding it pretty much impossible to take down a Mesmer, what advice do you have for an Elementalist VS Mesmer fight.
Elementalists are one of my hardest fights as a mesmer. Unless you’re pure glass then it’s whoever gets off their combo first.
Elementalists simply need to just have a good combo to shut down their opponents and they can win by out surviving them. Only fights that become hard at that point are vs bunkers. Aoe’s destroy illusions super fast since they seem to have around 5-600 health unless otherwise spec’d to increase health. Mesmers often have a couple of stun breaks on their utility bar too but they like using them for clone creation. If you see clones pop-up in large numbers: 1 expect a shatter coming and 2 your opponent now has his stun breaks on CD and it ripe for the picking.
There is another tactic that works well vs mesmers. Immobilize them, burst, laugh cause they spec’d glass and don’t use condition removal or can’t use it fast enough to save their kitten
The thing about mesmers is unlike most other classes they have multiple viable builds and they play very differently. So generic advice isn’t all that useful.
For example against a shatter mesmer the most important thing is anticipating and avoiding the shatter.
On the other hand a phanstasm mesmer is all about learning the summoning animations and dodging/blocking them so the phantasms don’t come out in the first place.
One of the toughest things about fighting a mesmer is you really need to know the class and the various specs to be able to do it decently.
I had an awesome duel with what I would consider a skilled mesmer today. Video below if you are interested:
Honestly, Eles and Mesmers are fairly closely matched, it ends up coming down to who makes the fewest mistakes. Make sure you bring stunbreaks, and use your defensive utilities wisely. You’ll notice I make several mistakes right off the bat by not using my stunbreak properly.
EDIT: Also forgot to add, that Mesmers tend to prove troublesome for new players because they have a hard time distinguishing clones. Once you gain some more experience, you’ll begin to notice the “tells,” and you’ll be able to stick to the real mesmer a lot easier. Here’s some hints: Clones don’t move much, they also don’t dodge, heal, or really move unpredictably at all.

^^Nice duel man looked like a fun fight. Ya Eles are a good match for me if the guy knows his kitten. That mesmer had good survivability but damage seemed a little low for most of the fight.
@OP Best thing to do is press hard fall back,…. press hard fall back. keep moving staying away from clones and main target. Eles have burst speed and defence. Use it to wear the mesmer down and learn to notice when cd’s and finish em.

You bunker, or you just become a pro elementalist player.
There’s no way a squishy elementalist will be able to out do a mesmer in a 1v1 unless they’re just really bad or mess up horribly, or you somehow can burst them from full instantly and catch them off guard.
They’ll pressure you extremely easily unless you bunker, or atleast build tanky enough and can keep illusions dead constantly.
Run balanced s/d with double cantrips (preferably mist form and cleansing fire) + arcane wave and renewing stamina, then pillar hump like a kitten when critical attunement swaps are on cd.
That’s the best way to kill shatter mesmers as an ele IMO and the fight will typically be pretty even, if not in your favor, depending on how many pillars are available in the immediate area.
