Tailor's Mark - Ascended Gear in PVP
It was to bring Ascended acquisition in-line with crafting. Anet always wanted crafting to be the main source of it, the vendor now just means you can PvP or do fractals for which ever stats you want, and not farm in PvE open world for it (Makes sense for the HoT stats in particular).
Ya, I get that, I have crafted a set of the Ascended Armor before. It was a lot of time and gold. Which is fine, in fact that is good but I’m just saying that this was a special thing Anet brought out to give another option to get the gear and bring more people into pvp. More people did pvp to earn that Armor and when you didn’t spend the shards you earned (and for a lot us, it was A LOT of pvp) right away they took it away. I didn’t spend mine right away because 1. I didn’t know they would take it away like that 2. I wasn’t sure which set I wanted yet They screwed a lot of people over who earned it doing pvp. I might as well of done other things to earn gold to just make it like before. I’m extremely disappointed in this and think they really messed up.
I spent the rest of mine because they put out the announcement that changes were coming to the system. They did let everyone know, so if you didn’t spend them you kinda just screwed yourself.
Well, not everyone saw the announcement. Some of us have jobs and lives and and it’s not GuildWars 24/7…..Hence why it wasn’t clear to many of us. Even besides that, it’s still unfair and actually from you what you just pointed out, punishes people who don’t make this game their whole life.

Kinda silly to assume I play the game 24/7 and have no job or life to try and back up your point of view. I actually have a full time job, school, a wife and household, and military obligations. Yet it was very simple to read an announcement and say “Hey, I should spend my shards now.”
She is not the only one. We are not even to the next season. This affected a lot of people and we are not happy about it. Glad you got yours.
As has been stated many times before, the point of these changes were to bring the PvP rewards down to PvE. The system they had for season 5 was flat out OP, effectively giving a full set of ascended armor for practically free.
BiS gear isn’t supposed to be easy to get. I understand you feel cheated because you didn’t get to take advantage of it but the reality is it never should have been that easy in the first place.
Maybe it shouldn’t of been that easy in the first place (easy except that many people spent hours playing, which is how you earned it…we played and we earned it) but you don’t then they should of changed it for the next upcoming season. Not take it away randomly without much notice. They punished us and it’s not right.

So, where was this announcement?
And even so, that doesn’t make it right…..
Glad you have time with all of that in your life to also keep up with a video game

I found those comments incredibly rude, it’s always the first assumption when people miss windows of opportunity, that people no-life games to know what changes are coming. I also work full time and have a life outside of game, but I read patch notes and forums because I enjoy this game enough to make sure I don’t miss any changes. Ironically, I saw this announcement the day it was posted but didn’t spend the rest of my shards (350) before the change, I was too busy, oh well, crafting some silly tokens will still be cheaper for me to do than craft outright on certain armor pieces (Until market stops fluctuating, and Anet rebalances for that “Small discount” again)

I’m not sure I have incentive to play the next season ..

I saw the announcement here on Dulfy, but it was also posted here on the forums that you are currently on. It took me about a minute to pull up the Dulfy site on my cell phone and realize these changes were coming.
This notice was posted about 5 days before the changes, was on the forums and Dulfy and probably any other gw2 news site or dev tracker. Not to mention, even if I had never even checked the forums or Dulfy at all, I constantly heard players talking about it in HotM map chat in the week before the patch.
Nobody here was cheated. If you failed to spend your shards, then you simply missed out on a good opportunity. This isn’t Anet’s fault. As for the changes, they needed to happen. The method for getting ascended gear in season 5 was stupid broken. It was insane how simple it was to get almost a full set of ascended gear, and I’m glad they changed it.
I respectfully disagree with some of you as I do feel I was cheated. I earned my tokens under the premise they could be spent on ascended armor. I play this game every day and never saw the notice warning of this change. I do regularly check the forums but not every day.
The notice they posted was short and subtle and I missed it. I understand it’s easy for players who got to cash in to dismiss the complaints of others, but this was very disheartening to those of us that lost out. We essentially had our time and effort disregarded. Not the end of the world but it does leave you with a sense of being cheated out of something you rightfully earned.

No. Wasn’t insane or wrong at all: was a perfectly limited and controled (at most 5 armor piece x season) time-gated way to ensure people from PvE with little interest in PvP to invest some time in thist game mode.
Was to some extent a perfect carrot: most of PvP players don’t care too much about PvE and for sure PvP gold rewards aren’t enough to fund the demands of high fractal gear, so the Seson 5 rewards would make fractals affordable for such guys. But the main target for the ascended PvP gear was the PvE comunity, to try to enlarge their PvP participation now that the Pro scene is dead. It worked: queues were surprisingly short and ranked mode was full of players at any hour.
Now, is Season 6 you need to play ~400 matches with a 50% w/r to get the same ascended shards, plus spending all the gold gains to make the same 5 armor pieces. Obviously the PvE players which want ascended gear WILL NOT play PvP to get the armor of weapons, because crafting is way faster (albeit more expensive) and don’t requiere dozens of hours playing with stranges.
The reality is that after the changes Season 6 lacks relevant rewards for PvErs and Fractals/Raids lacks interest to PvPers so now both communities can go and die alone in their respective niches.

A PvPer just gain his wings. Anyways, you don’t have to do anything you dont want to.

As someone who crafted his first set of ascended gear, yes the reward method for season 5 was insane. I put in alot of time, gold, and materials to get my medium ascended armor. I pvp’d for a week to get almost a full set of light ascended armor. The difference was insane, plain and simple.
Also, fun fact, you do not need ascended armor to start fractals. Fun fact 2, ascended trinkets from laurel vendors will get you further into fractals. You do not need ridiculous rewards to start playing fractals.

“Start playing fractals” provide 0 rewards to players, specially if you’re a player which invest time in competitive modes. The rewards you get playing fractals at low level are so mediocre that make running dungeons a better choice.
In games in which a grind is needed to grant the proper gear to being able to compete you can expect that PvP players will embrace that grind in order to being able to play. But in GW2, in which Coquest mode uses normalized gear (which I concur is the right choice) there’s no need to waste time grinding PvE content if you’re a dedicated PvP player.
Also, even if you want ascended gear as a PvP player, with the current (new) reward system there’s no reason to get it from the Season 6: just mining rich ore and gathering and selling logs will fill your pocket with money to buy the mats from the BL market and to craft the gear instantly.
Guild Wars 2 is a game in which each branch of players (PvE, PvP, WvW) acts mostly separately, with low sinergies or mutual interest. The Season 5 rewards were an attempt to make players more participative in the whole array of game modes (and ArenaNet SHOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME WITH THE WVW REWARDS). But they backpedaled.
Well, as I said, let then PvE, PvP and WvW to slowly die apart in each comunnity niche.
Wondering why the currency has changed to buy the ascended gear in PVP? If you participated in the last season and earned Shards of Glory you can’t purchase the gear unless you have Tailor’s Marks now? Which to make are going to cost several hundred gold……How is this fair? The second season hasn’t even started. I could understand why it might be changed for the next season but why are we being punished now?
I think u wanted to say there how is that not fair. getting fast easy and free asc armor was bs and it did more harm than good to the mode

Sindrener was very vocal about how fast were the queues in season 5 and how much the PvP population was increased in that period. The rewards were better, the matchmaking system was better and a lot of new players flooded the gamemode. I’ can’t understand how that “did more harm than good” except in the pockets of salty PvErs…
I guess that without extra rewards, no Pro League or tournaments at all, next expansion at least 6 months away and crappy balance patches the queues will soon (after the first couple of weeks) decay to the current 3-4 minutes for a ranked match, which is just comical.
