Take Prof Distribution Seriously!
You are right… I just finished a game against a double-necro/double ranger team… (our face was melted…)
Also a few minutes ago i was in a team with 3 other guardians… (we won this one…:P)
I can imagine that a full prof stack group can be fun but hey! MM should not do this!

Earlier, I had:
3 mesmers, 1 thief, 1 guardian. 1 mesmer and the guardian duo queue, the rest solo.
vs.
guardian, warrior, thief, elementalist, engineer. 4-man premade + 1.
To be fair, it was mesmer daily.
To be fairer, GET RID OF PROFESSION DAILIES ENTIRELY.
Really though, ANet can’t be held entirely responsible. At the end of the day, it’s up to the players what they want to play. They could help the situation though, by balancing difficulty levels of some classes so they weren’t extremely easy and thus likely to be picked up by so many players. I’m looking at ranger and power necro in particular, followed by medi guardian. Having a lot of these squishies also leads to more players queueing as thief and mesmer, and you wind up with 4-5 uncoordinated solo-queue berserkers vs. a premade of 3-5 with some sustain. It used to be the case with warriors but the meta for warrior now is boring to play. It was also the case with turret engis, which was finally addressed after like a year.

it’s very possible. I keep facing a medi guard premade today, and my teammates keep getting exploded. people generally just don’t know how to cope with this burst. and to be frank, the rules simply shouldn’t allow it. if we have hardcounters in the game, then the game obviously has rock, paper, scissors elements. and the matchmaker isn’t accounting for it.
you know they use esports to advertise this game, but esports revolves around balanced comps. why do the rest of us have to suffer through this garbage? why is the infrastructure for esports not representative of what the rest of the players have available to them? it’s pathetic really.
if powers that be over at ANet cant handle this simple function, then simply have us select our builds when the queue pops.

Again: you are right! Our “premade” was: double medi+thief. The game gave us two more meditation guardians. Basically we exploded players. Not killed them. Oneshot. And this should not exist. Sure if you premade a comp it stays as it is but matching 2 more of the same profession in a team where 2 of them already presents… Funny.
Solo and Party should be on a separate queue. Either 5v5 or 1 against PUG. HotJoin and Unranked must be not affected.
three engineers with me on shout warrior was a pretty fun premade to be in. we had some pretty crazy cc chains.
anet matchmaking will continue to do dumb things like 3 thieves and ofc no players class swap for their team. learn more than one class and swap to fix your own comps. its not like anet matchmaking has been improving lol.

that doesn’t really work when you aren’t 1 of the 3 thieves

those bloody stubborn i have to play thief even though im a scrub players ugh. cant solve that attitude sorry.
they just need to get over themselves and class swap, but they just have to play theif and ofc they are good enough to win with three thieves (delusions of grandeur).

we shouldn’t NEED TO swap professions. that’s absolutely ridiculous. even now, it results in a loss for the individual doing it. the matchmaker needs to take care of this, or they should let us select builds in a pre-game selection screen like dota 2. the latter is a must for rock, paper, scissors balancing. as long as there are hardcounters, there has to be some level of control over comps. either on our end, or server-side. oh yeah, and I mean FOR ALL OF US no just the 25 people playing esports.
to me it’s baffling this infrastructure isn’t in place.
Well it can;t really take hardcounters into consideration because what build diversity exists may cause different builds on the same class to not have the same hard counter. Ex. Thief hardcounters power shatter mesmer, but typically loses to condition shatter mesmer, or medi guard hard counters mesmer with sw/torch but not staff.
Still It’d be nice to not have stacked teams, esepcially as a mesmer player that can’t really hold a point to begin with, having multiple mesmers means we have to kill things as fast as possible to compensate.

Nintendo games..
Rule 1: Not more than 1 thief and mesmer per team.
Rule 2: Not more than 2 of any other profession.
Rule 3: Not more than 3 of any 1 amulet.
?
It would punish thieves and mesmers at first, but we’d all be rewarded with less self-desk-face-smash inducing team comps.
Personally I usually swap if there’s another thief or a mesmer in my group. But…
A proper profession balance and build diversity would probably solve this. As it is, mesmer and thief both have only a couple of builds to choose from and most players choose the same build. For thief it’s berserker amulet or nothing, and the same for mesmer (unless condi). Both are extremely fragile professions that rely on killing their opponent before they are killed. Atm I’m worried about specializations mostly, wondering if the changes done will force us into only a few builds per class.
I was thinking about specializations as I wrote out my mock rules. It may be that we get effectively get 18 professions instead of our current 8, and this entire problem goes away.
It’s not even really an issue with the matchmaker itself, it’s an issue of overall balance. I forget which Anet employee said it, but their goal wasn’t even to have hardcounters in the first place, but here we are.

oh it is an issue with the matchmaker. indeed it is. the game has hard counters and imo it should. rock, paper, scissors is more fun, as long as devs and players have awareness of it. devs need to support it because it’s happening.
simple example: 2 thieves and 2 medi guards in the queue. one side gets the two guards, other side gets the two thieves. the team with the two thieves proceeds to get wrecked (assuming equal skill/MMR).
2 thieves, 2 mesmers is another similar example. the team with two mesmers proceeds to get wrecked.
third example would be having a bunch of profs/specs that cant hold a point on one team, for example 2 necros + 2 rangers + X vs. a balanced comp. will be less of an issue with SH.

For mesmer it will be a lot better in my opinion, since with the illusions traits being baseline, and better lockdown traits, both shatter and lockdown will be effective but different types of burst builds that burst in different ways. The condition builds will be hugely buffed as well, although I’d stil probably only run them in solo queue.

It also shows how bad the game balance is, that running 3 mediation Guardian is ok while having 2 thieves or 2 necros have a great disadvantage, despite all being zerk class. It already shows who’s at the top of food chain.

Thieves are basically a requirement, though. Is there any high ranking team that doesn’t use one at all?
1 thief is overpowered, 2 thieves are auto-lose.

It’s funny how that works, but so true

Unless the two thieves are really good. I’ve had the pleasure of having such thieves in my ranked matches before. You’re never really holding the point alone because it won’t take them long to get to you and turn 1v1 into 2v1.
yeah, those thieves got blown up. thanks for supporting my point. really, it’s those games that make me rage.

I believe we’re assuming equal skill between the medi guards and thieves.
PvP is becoming unplayable for me because of how bad the match ups have been. They’ve been insanely imbalanced in nearly every single match I’ve been in over the past week.
