Taunt doesn't let you target
Thieve’s dagger #3 goes throw blocks and way more spammable then taunt so whats the problem.

I believe he meant shadow shot. High damage+blind, shadowstep, unblockable and yet also spamable. Thats broken
Only the projectile part is unblockable though. And most of the damage should be in the dagger slash if I remember well.
Honestly when i play ranger power/condis this skill is like a real troll skill. Every 15s is a really low cd and it’s almost impossible to avoid Besides the break stun. I think main problem are birds animations, not really clear so hard to avoid and with a really low cd (perfect for taunt sinergy). Other pets have more clear animations.
Anyone has a good strategy against taunt?

taunt actually isn’t tied to the animation; it’s instantaneous.
So you could have a fearwolf taunt (2s taunt) and after 1 1/2 seconds, the fear kicks in.
The Blind is also instantaneous btw, but the weakness is tied to the skill of the pet hitting.
I think taunt is pretty good, but definitely not OP: there are classes with heavier CC and it’s actually not easy to keep your taunting pets alive and control them properly.
Pet’s can’t dodge and have no invulnerability most of the times, so if a taunting pet is annoying you, it’s actually a legit strat to just burst it down, which is sth. ppl might want to do against beastmastery-builds (it takes away tons of DPS because so many traits are directly linked to the pet and often it takes away most of the condition-removal of the ranger as well). Pets also have no own condition-removal, but rather often pour on more conditions they draw from the ranger – so it’s incredibly easy to focus a pet down. Just w8 until right after a pet-swap of course! ^^
biggest problem I have with taunt is that it just doesn’t really work with ranged pets. You can’t make them go close to a target by making them atk. it, since they’ll just atk it from range, where the taunt won’t hit. ANet should come up with sth., like the ability to switch into “melee-mode” for ranged pets or maybe a way to ground-target your pet to move somewhere (of course with limited cast and leash-range, like 900-1200).

Dunno, if used properly is also an anti stealth skill and cd is really low + instant effect. And you need to reswitch target.
Try to compare it with revenant taunt, there is a huge difference in casting time (incredibile telegraphated revenant taunt) and you don’t need to reswitch target. And you need to have a target to use it (pet aoe effects don’t need target).
Honestly on ranger pet, it seems a little op in comparison.
The problem is that you target the pet unwillingly and during taunt u can’t change target.
Edit: To clarify the problem is NOT that you can’t change the target of your autoattack, but you can’t change target in general.
This takes away too much control for a cc effect. Can’t use Steal, Judge’s intervention, or dazing mantra etc. on the ranger, moreover you can’t even target the ranger so by the end of taunt u still have to change target. Please remove this target changing component from the effect.Understood. My initial post still stands. I don’t think a person should change targets during a Taunt. Period. Like others have already stated… it’s kind of weird auto attacking a person while looking (targeting) some one else.
It’s not hard re-targeting a person. It adds more playability in a match, lets not dumb the game further because solo players can’t click or use “T” effectively.
No, the problem is that the current functionality turns taunt into a “Super” CC.
Remember a few years ago, when you couldn’t use skills in midair? This led to launches being a “Super” stun, because you couldn’t use a stunbreaker to break the effect until your character stopped moving. This was silly, and Anet fixed it so that some classes didn’t have access to a superior class of stuns.
Taunt fits into this the exact same way – every other CC effect in the game allows you to choose your target for using stunbreakers/instant skills, Taunt shouldn’t be a Super CC in this regard (especially since Taunt already is a unique and potentially very powerful CC effect)

I’ ve a suggestion, taunt could be converted to condition like fear.
It makes sense because it’s designed like the fear opposite.
This could help, using an instant condi removal to remove it adding a better counter.

You can break taunt with every stunbreaker. This is a big difference to unbreakable cc.

IMO, Taunt is powerful enough without this additional limiter. No other CC effect allows you to dynamically control the positioning of your target while also potentially forcing them to waste charges/eat retal/trigger on block effects/etc…

I think it should work in the same way like fear cuz it’s designed to be the opposite of fear.
So Taunt like a condition, you can clear it with a condi removal and Break stun and it’s influenced by condi duration and it’s not affected by stun reduction effects (like fear http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fear )
I think it’s more apprpriate for a CC with no clear animations (same like fear).

Uhm…it’s interesting, but i’m not really sure it works with every condition cleanse (for example Healing Seed) or if it’s influenced by condi duration. And if it is a condition, what is the boon conversion of this taunt?
I dunno if there is some bug with this skill.
In every case the description needs to be more clear

I always been curious why taunt icon is red like fear while stuns in general are gray/purple. I believe it was a bug in the beginning that it wasnt affected by condi cleanse or maybe they decided later on to rework it instead. I can cleanse it with f2, dindt bother with anything else as it is pointless. You cant taunt war in zerk stance either. And yes it is affected by condi duration as my taunt was 2.1/4sec with traveler runes on rev.
