Just wanted to highlight that it seems that if youre opponent is using a ranged weapon and you taunt them it doesnt make them run towards you because they are already in range for their autoattack and simply stand in one spot autoattacking.
I was under the impression that it was intended that taunt makes the opponent constantly run towards the source.
I havent tested this extensively so if someone could confirm and yeah just wanted to know if this was intended.
There are other weird things with taunt, we are discussing them on this topic too:

I’m not really sure taunt is meant to force the target of the taunt to actually run towards the taunter unless out of range for their attacks to hit? It’s a “force target to attack me”-type of ability, that’s at least how I have understood it.
don’t think it’s meant to make the attacker walk towards the pet – it just makes them atk the pet.

Unless out of range I’d guess.

This and yeah its probably the intended function – ’forces target to walk towards source until in range of autoattack".
On that note, concerning confusion, does the target start autoattacking as soon as taunt is applied or only when they are in range?
Also the reason i brought this up is because of the words on the wiki
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Taunt
“Taunt is a control effect that forces the affected target to run towards the source of taunt with all skills except stun breakers disabled while using their auto-attack skill.”

Do you mean it changes your target to the source and doesn’t let you change until taunt is over? Yeah already was aware of that happening but cant remember if it was because a dev said it was intended or if it was just brought up on a stream somewhere by a player.

Nono, i mean the discussion moved on and now there is an interesting issue if Taunt is a Control Effect or a condition, because on wiki is listed like CE but condi removal affects it (like fear)
Imho it should be like a Fear (so a condition + CE) but wiki says only CE but at the same time it seems condi removal works on it.
Icon is red but there is no track about for exampe a boon-condi convertion about Taunt.
It’s not really clear.

It was supposed to be a Control Effect, but allowing rangers to have one of these offsets the balance of the game, so it must have been changed back to a mere condition that can be cleansed by accident—in most cases. #RangersSuck
I just had taunt interrupt my Gear Shield, forcing me out of it.
I really don’t understand why they felt this was necessary.

Well same happens if you use wail of doom to be fair because its unblockable

All joking aside, I think Taunt is a new mechanic that is still being worked out. Ranger does not have too much in the way of Control Effects to strategically alter the flow of battle, so this does seem like a nice addition. There are several QQ threads about standard ranger gameplay involving standing on a ledge pressing 1 repeatedly. This gives us a skill that can change the flow of battle, when used correctly, but does not do much when mindlessly spammed.
As it stands, Taunt is a Control Effect that can cancel blocks, invisibility and other defensive countermeasures like evasion spam. I don’t mind this, but still wish Ranger had more Control Effects, in the form of interrupts and stuns. Skills that require thought make the game interesting. Taunt is one of these. Other classes will be getting it in HoT, I am fairly certain.
It’s a nice addition, but compared to all the other CC that mesmers are throwing around, engineers literally have nothing they can use to keep themselves alive in a team fight when they get focused if we can’t even use Gear Shield.

When pets have an added effect like bleed or blind from skills, they add it into the F2 ability description. When they give you boons, you can see the boons on your bar. I have not noticed any response in game like this for taunt, and I’m still not sure if it’s working correctly. Is the taunt is wiped/ stabilized so easily that some enemies appear to not be taunted? There is no real indication that the CC is missing or hitting like the fear howl on the wolf. Are there settings I can change to see this and if not, are there any plans to add anything like a taunt condition icon?
