Necromancer/Casual Warrior
[Team] Best WvW guild of all time. EASILY.
1, It clearly isn’t fun. Its all spam. Every class is spam. If you disagree you are lying to urself.
2, There is nothing to play for. The season goes on for years and playing isn’t encouraged from a leaderboard perspective.
3, A ton of games are ruined by ESL mesmer/thief duo queues pushing far and insta moa someone and then snowball the whole game 5v4 from there.
4, There is zero build diversity. It is clear what is best.
5, If you try to run non-meta you often get utterly shrekt because the power creep is so insane that all the meta builds are broken. GL with running a non-meta spec and surviving thieves and mesmers
6, There are no amulets. So it was broken with tanky amulets because engis and mesmers and rangers never died right? Well how about nerf the broken sustain traits. It kills build diversity so much to remove all the amulets. I really don’t understand the lack of a sentinal or cleric amulet and instead we get 100 variations of the same amulets. Breaking the game because of these dumb traits is not a reason to remove amulets. It is a reason to nerf these traits or just to accept this game is a failure pvp wise.
7, There is no communication help. No pings to say you need help. Nothing. Just a complete failure.
8, No new maps. So the game has been out 4 years and skyhammer is the only new map in ranked in 4 years. Awesome. I hope on the reviews of their 4 years of work the anet management see how much of a factual failure this is
9, Perma evasion – its not very fun trying to hit people perma evading/invuln. Maybe try and design combat in a way that is fun for both parties.
10, Tiny community – you play the same people over and over. It is boring. You sit in a queue for 4 minutes and then it pops vs exactly the same people you just played with. So that 4 minutes was just a total troll.
I’m actually enjoying this season, but everything you said is true. Can’t really refute any of that cause it’s spot on lol. But nonetheless, I’m having fun and the rewards are great.
But most of everything you said is correct and really does need to be addressed. Nothing could be done about the small community though. And I don’t think communication is really that terrible. I see people pinging all the time and giving commands.

It should flash up in dialog that “Person x needs help” when the ping happens
Im feeling some strange connection between Lordrosicky and Vingador. One is basically a gw2 meme and the other one is turning into one
and if u disagree with me you are lying to yourself.

Temple of the Silent Storm wasn’t in at launch, either.

Pedantic. It released over 4 years ago anyway.
11. You cant have more than one combination of keybinds / no keybinds for each character separate. Cant multiclass since every class has its own keybinds y.y and changing them each time you change class is tedious.
I was going to comment on the fun I am having, but apparently that is just me lying to myself? Kinda put me in a box here.
1, I agree, GW2 doesn’t have a high skill cap, the playerbase isn’t really that skilled and almost all meta builds are easy-to-play spammy builds. You’re absolutely right on that.
2, This is where I disagree. There is plenty to play for. Getting that shiny legendary back item; The Ascension, getting ascended armor with a unique skin; the Ardent Glorious Armor set, trying to get that shiny Platinum or Legendary league badge next to your name, and if you’re really good; trying to get in the top 10 for a unique title.
3, Never happened to me so far. But I’m high-Gold/low-Platinum so I doubt I’ll ever face ESL players.
4, I agree to some degree. There is some build diversity, but yes, most classes have 1 or 2 builds that everyone and their mom uses. I’m not going to lie, I’m guilty of that myself as well, simply because as you said; these are the builds that are proven to work.
5, Nah, there are plenty of viable non-meta builds, for example the d/d condi thief cancer build, or the staff vault-spammer thief cancer build, both non-meta and utter cancer yet very successful in ranked queue.
6, I agree, there are some classes and traits that seriously need to be looked at for the next balance patch. But removing these “tanky” amulets was a good move. Sadly it didn’t fix anything though, as new builds emerged that are way too frikkin tanky and healy, even without these tanky amulets.
The biggest offender in my opinion is the warrior. It’s the only class right now that uses a Berserker amulet, yet it’s one of the more tanky classes in the meta due to the insane amount of blocks, heals and invulnerable spam. I’m not saying warrior is the most tanky class in the game, auramancer ele or druid are way more tanky, but the warrior is way too tanky for a burst DPS-oriented build using a Berserker amulet. It’s ridiculous.
7, That’s just blatantly false.
8, True. I wish Stronghold isn’t broken. I really like that game-mode and I’d love to see it getting a redesign so it’s not broken so we can play it in ranked. Then again, how often do games like League of Legends get new maps?
9, True, which brings me back to what I said under point 6.
10, Agreed.
(edited by LucosTheDutch.4819)
1, I’m having fun until the match making screws up my game.
2, Playing for fun.
3, Nothing wrong with tactics.
4, There is heaps of builds to use, but only 1-2 low skill high reward builds for each class.
5, All of my builds are non-meta. Only use meta builds on Thief because I don’t understand the class traits/utilities and playstyle properly.
6, There are plenty of Amulets, most go to builds that are non – meta. Removing Clerics was a good choice too, although I was using Menders when Clerics was available because crits are fun.
7, I think it’s Shift + Click to ping, hold for other options such as ticks and crosses and “DANGER!”
8, Not enough new maps. Temple stayed, Courtyard was scrapped, We got hammer, Capricorn twice, Eternal and that’s all I can think of for now.
9, Perma evasion – Perma black – Perma Invuln – eh, it does get old, no argument there.
10, Tiny community – This is more apparent being OCX. Games are so one sided sometimes that you can afk and still win if you were put on the side matchmaking thinks is going to win.
1. I’m on thief, my fun is in getting timings of dodges & interrupts right and getting a good understanding of the rotation.
2. I’m playing to see my ranking compared to my guild mates and people I know. I don’t care about legendary backpack. Ascended stuff is a nice cherry on the cake.
3. I can’t tell about that, I ’m good enough to stay in gold.
4. True to an extent…
5. Is non-meta mesmer allowed ? As long as you know your niche and limitation non meta can be fine. You are not forced to stick with one build/class forever. Some builds can fit a comp better than meta.
6. I agree
7. Nothing at all is false – alt + t is a ping feature that has been added not too long ago. It needs polish though.
8. New maps are slowly on the way. I agree not fast enough.
9. I agree
10. I suppose people at the top are lonely
1. Spam. This is mostly true. HoT meta builds are mostly spam except for the very top of the playerbase. The spam needs reduced in general so that decision making is more important at all levels of play
2. Rewards. Agree. Ascended shards need spread out and the cap removed. Decay needs adjusted and only affect the top of the playerbase.
3. Top Player Groups. They have to play someone. The only solution is a larger population, especially at the top.
4. Build Diversity. Agree. Power creep drove out a lot of “just under meta” builds.
5. Non-meta. There are some non-meta builds which can work, but you have to play significantly better than an opponent on a meta build. Most meta builds are far too forgiving of mistakes.
6. Amulets. The stat system in PvP needs to offer more variety. I suggest limiting to 3 items of 3 stats each and allowing mix-and-match. ANet needs to stop using it as a balance stick and balance the real problem: skills/traits. Even with amulet removal, the same things remained powerful. The four-stat amulets are pure power creep.
7. Communication. What we have is okay. It could be better, but it’s not holding PvP back.
8. New Maps. They’ve added new maps, but most are terrible, even new Skyhammer. New maps aren’t holding the game back though. If we had build diversity, games would play out differently on the same small map pool.
9. Perma-Evade. This is a duplicate of #1, #4, and #5.
10. Small Community. You’re exaggerating. Fixing the power creep would help a lot.
I opened this thread expecting a troll post from Lordrosicky ….but ended up agreeing with you on almost every point.
2) is especially spot on. The description I find best regarding this is that high level players end up “hoarding rank points”, they just accumulate and then sit on their characters and not play. It’s hilarious to see how few games some top ranked people actually play. A quick glance at the top 10 ranks show 60% of those players having a miniscule amount of total games.
this guy clearly needs a break. brteak is healthy. Go for a walk, play another game, rest a bit and kitten back with full force!
1. Spam. This is mostly true
2. Rewards. don’t care
3. Top Player Groups. don’t care
4. Build Diversity. Agree. 00 build diversity, to be forced to play 1 thing per class in order to perform is just kitten.
5. Non-meta. Agree play Meta or you will crowl under people’s feet. This is just stupid
6. Amulets. Agree: There is nothing they can do, Balance are not dev. They can and are only allowed to balance some small things.
7. Communication. More silent than cow, and Mike O’brien think, it is a good politic.
And I THINK, it is sutpid
8. New Maps. no budget, Agree. No budget is No budget.
9. Perma-Evade. This is a duplicate of #1, #4, and #5. don’t care.
10. Small Community. You’re exaggerating. Fixing the power creep would help a lot.[/quote] The Community is not big anymore. He is not exaggerating.
Now to your Q:
Tell me what is the point of playing?
A:my poit of view? No Point.
The same problem has been discussed for years now. Changes didn’t occur in the right direction for the PVP community (even though they tried). The game is growing hold. there is not much to do at this point.
Fan will stay fan and play, others people will move on.
(edited by Seyiwaji.4082)
1, It clearly isn’t fun. Its all spam. Every class is spam. If you disagree you are lying to urself.
Not so much agreeing on this. But there are so much passives though…
2, There is nothing to play for. The season goes on for years and playing isn’t encouraged from a leaderboard perspective.
There is more incentive than in the other seasons. Altough the system that places different ranks and DuoQ vs SoloQ in a match is still far from perfect.
3, A ton of games are ruined by ESL mesmer/thief duo queues pushing far and insta moa someone and then snowball the whole game 5v4 from there.
Hmm yeah. Its just a good tactic you know. But I would say that a SoloQ-only system might work better. DuoQ’ers can carry much better than SoloQ’ers, so if your team doesnt have ESL players, and the opposite has 2, the chance that youre gonna lose is way too big. Although many people give up such a match way too quick.
4, There is zero build diversity. It is clear what is best.
Strongly agreed. Very boring. The only class with very limited survivability seems to be thief. 1 class out of a range of 9 classes is way too less.
5, If you try to run non-meta you often get utterly shrekt because the power creep is so insane that all the meta builds are broken. GL with running a non-meta spec and surviving thieves and mesmers
Also agreed. Elite specs need to be toned down, or vanilla traits/skills must be upgraded. Preferably the first. We need LESS stuff flying around, instead of more more more.
Oh yes please. Paladin, Marauder, Menders. Thats about it, apart from a few condi builds you see here and there. Utterly boring, there is no build diversity. The game didnt want the old school ’’triangle’’ of healers/ranged dmg/melee dmg. But now only builds that have something of everything will flourish. There is no reason to ’’specialize’’ in a certain way; condi, raw dmg, healing, boon support, etc. It makes your character generally weaker, and therefore the build diversity is so limited.
7, There is no communication help. No pings to say you need help. Nothing. Just a complete failure.
Hmm I don’t know. This is maybe not in such a bad state.
8, No new maps. So the game has been out 4 years and skyhammer is the only new map in ranked in 4 years. Awesome. I hope on the reviews of their 4 years of work the anet management see how much of a factual failure this is
I would rather have Anet to invest time and effort in the issues above, before they make a new map again that will be only in unranked forever.
9, Perma evasion – its not very fun trying to hit people perma evading/invuln. Maybe try and design combat in a way that is fun for both parties.
Agreed. Blocks also. Basically they should remove nearly all blocks and all unblockables. Then you get a rare occassion that an attack will be blocked (good for everyone) and that a block won’t get interrupted by unblockable attacks all of a sudden (good for people that actually can use a block).
10, Tiny community – you play the same people over and over. It is boring. You sit in a queue for 4 minutes and then it pops vs exactly the same people you just played with. So that 4 minutes was just a total troll.
Hard to solve this problem, but its true. Maybe if they solve other problems first, the population might return to pvp.
if your doing nothing but making nerf threads and talking about how bad the game is and how people shouldnt be playing it. its time to take a break man.
this kind of topic again
Well, I can agree on some points, like the lack of communication is on the of the biggest thorns in my side in pvp. it’s like 95% of the playerbase doesn’t even know a chatbox exists. But as far as the whole ‘every class is facerolling and if you deny it, you’re lying to yourself’.. well.. let’s see where facerolling left me.. bronze.. bronze.. oh look, it’s more bronze
tell me, what is the point of being alive?
why not, you know?

“Tell me what’s the point of playing?

The post should just end here. There’s no point in playing if you don’t enjoy it.
I don’t believe anyone with half a brain would play a game that they don’t find fun, or enjoy in some way.
It’s a natural human behavior to get bored of a game after playing it for hundreds of hours. Take a break, play other games and if at some point you miss gw2, just come back and play it until you get bored again.

If you truly think this then you are not a competitive or really an ambitious player. I have played over 650 games this season already and, trying to be as accurate as possible, I would say 70% of those I really, REALLY did not want to play. I have spent over half this season absolutely hating pvp and feeling like quitting the game after many of my losses. But I don’t just stop playing because I don’t enjoy it. I don’t play this game for fun. If I did I would not even have half of the 5.2k hours I have invested in this game. No matter if it is pve or pvp, I play to achieve a target and I will not stop playing, however much I hate what I am doing, until I have done what I want to. To be honest, I WISH I could think in the way you do, it would make me a lot happier, but me and many other simply can’t.
And it is not just me who thinks like this, I know that many people would keep playing when they hate this game like I sometimes do just so they can achieve what they want. When you see a thread like this with someone saying how much they hate the game yet they continue to play, it means that they are a person who thinks like me and will keep going even if they don’t like what they are doing. Pvp, especially this season, does encourage people to think in this way more than ever.
That, or they have literally nothing else to do with their life. Or both.

This!
Pings are useless atm, you DON’T know WHO PINGED, OR WHAT THEY MEAN WITH THE PINGS.
Other games have a text attributed to the pings, so you can read, even seconds later, what other people wanted to convey.
It standardizes the dialog and tells you who’s “speaking”.
I agree with your points except for the first one. Fun is subjective.
If you or anyone else is not having fun with the game then take a break or quit the game. I know it’s easier said than done, but seriously, man up, grow a spine and do it.
There are so many fun games and activities out there. You’ll do yourself a favour.

Good post although in the end I just quit anyway
Here is a suggestion.
Is arena net holding you hostage? If they are, give us a signal, else. Get a life.
This is a game. You play games to have fun, if you are not having fun, it is time to give up and go do something more productive of your time other than make threads whining about everything.

This sounds like incredibly destructive behavior and was honestly very depressing to read.
Video games are a hobby. Unless you’re a YouTube content creator or a Twitch streamer, you’re probably not even making any money playing this game. It’s a good and healthy thing to always strive for improvement when it comes to your hobbies, whether that’s gaming or otherwise. My wife is a ferocious knitter and always challenges herself by taking on more ambitious projects; I too play video games with much the same energy, and am always striving to improve as a player.
But at the core of that ambition is the pursuit of play, not work.
I hope your life turns around at some point and you eventually see the error in this approach.

His view isn’t destructive in the slightest. You are just saying words with no understanding of what you are saying, talking by cliche.
His enjoyment (FUN) is to get better and achieve something in the game. So the end goal is the fun.
That is something a lot of people do, people who are DRIVEN to succeed in various aspects of life. It is not destructive at all, it is a personality trait he has and it is a desirable one in some ways.
Do you think climbing Mount Everest is “fun” whilst you are doing it? Or do people do it for the end goal, hoping in the end they will achieve something which gives them satisfaction.
It is similar in a ton of games and all areas of life. For some people the end goal is so desirable that they will go through an non-fun portion to get to it.
I am actually kind of like you in my outlook on life. But you have to realise that not everyone is the same.
“Tell me what’s the point of playing?
1. It clearly isn’t fun".
The post should just end here. There’s no point in playing if you don’t enjoy it.
I don’t believe anyone with half a brain would play a game that they don’t find fun, or enjoy in some way.If you truly think this then you are not a competitive or really an ambitious player.
Or both.

Just because people play for different reasons that doesn’t mean they’re all defensible. Someone could boot up Guild Wars 2 simply to troll other players and make everyone else have a bad time around them.
Besides, I am not “presuming” anything. His actions and opinions are quite defined and obvious. He literally says he doesn’t play the game to have fun. I personally find that to be incredibly destructive behavior.
A judgment call is absolutely being made here, but the evaluation isn’t based on conjecture. I am stating an opinion and you are welcome to disagree with it.

For some people the fun is the end goal and not the process. That is the whole point. This is why games like WoW were so successful. It is also why people get competitive in games.
It is a dumb conversation on your side. Now you have had logic thrown in your face feel free to back out

I don’t go to work to have fun, but I do it anyways because I have obligations. I didn’t pick my career because I liked it; I did it because I need the inherently higher salary and rock-stable job to stay alive for medical reasons.
Despite the fact he may have said he doesn’t play the game itself to have fun, it means nothing as to why he does in fact play it.
It very well could be for community/friendship commitment reasons, supervising children online, or very much just part of a routine due to the nostalgia of what once was. For all we know, his alternatives may be doing similar activities due to disability, economic reasons, geographical location/environment… really anything. Even the possibility of him playing for cash isn’t out the window since we were never told if he does or doesn’t. Frankly, even the people who definitely are playing for cash have said the exact same thing; Toker came out and said he’d outright drop the game entirely if he wasn’t living off the money, just because the experience of playing PvP for him has gotten so miserable since HoT.
Offering insight to maybe take a break or asking why he plays to begin with at that point is one thing, but you were pretty kitten ed condescending in your tone while being pretty accusatory there’s something inherently wrong with the guy while never actually looking to get the question of why he really plays answered.
If you’re that miserable, then I don’t see the point of playing.
I like pvp. I like the challenge it provides to play against other players rather than a predictable AI. I like that I have no guarantee if the result- it adds a level of satisfaction and accomplishment when you win.
There certainly are elements I don’t like and it can be frustrating at times but I still enjoy it. If your at a point where you hate it and feel it gives you no enjoyment, then maybe try something else?
As of tonight I haven’t found a reason to keep playing anymore.
I was doing okay lately, but tonight I ran into a buzzsaw of just flat out bad teams.
Did I play perfect? Nope, but I’m not legendary caliber enough to carry teams so I lost 8 out of 10 games tonight with multiple games losing -20 rating while my wins are only giving me +10-11.
Quite frankly PvP was the only reason I still played this game because I find the PvE side pretty boring and linear and if I wanted to play the raiding days again I would most definitely choose another MMO.
Oh well, least I got a year’s worth out of the game and got HoT and the base game in one shot instead of buy each individually.
Now comes the tough part – finding another game to play. I’ve been looking around and nothing is really piquing my interest.
I’m down for any suggests though.
I’m a pvp’er all of my online time which is by now over 20 years. And GW2 pvp is the only kind of pvp in a game where I end up being frustrated as never before.
I got outnumbered or ganked up on in so many games, i got graveyard camped and i had terrible arena moments in other games but GW2 is different.
I so often have the feeling that I can’t help my team mates because they don’t want help and even if I can help them they find a way to totally fail on another place of the map.
It’s easier to carry a bad 10 man random battleground group in WoW or a really bad team in CS:GO then to carry 2 bad players in GW2.
There is something not going as planned in the matchmaking, when I get teams every 2 games that seem to never have played pvp before. A single player in your team that is terrible? Your team can deal with that. But it seems like after you won a match the system puts all the losers from the match before into your team.
I’m by far not a perfect player, but I see most of the errors I make and I try to improve. I can’t improve in this game when every kittening match is one-sided.
Why do I win a match with 500:20 and lose the next one 502:100. In one match I solo 2-3 of the enemy team at far and another of my team kills the other two. In the next match I win a 1v2 and my team completely wipes 4v3 and loses two bases.
I don’t really know what’s wrong with the matchmaking or if this is what Anet wants, but I’ll afk most of the time for now just to farm gold and frustrate those players that frustrate me.

Basically had the same. Dropped from 1890 rating to under 1700 xD. I get teamed up with necro’s that use spectral wall and other bad players. Apparently I can’t carry them (maybe my class also isn’t quite perfect to do so), but I know for sure that most of the players I get teamed up with are worse than me. Out of ten games last night, I lost nine I believe. I mean, come on. That’s not even random anymore.

irrational stuff
Actually, Phineas Poe was the one being rational.
It doesn’t take a much effort to see just how irrational OP is. It is like each passing day, more of his sanity is slipping away, in a hilarious but mostly sad way.
Point of playing: to compete with other players, get good at this game, have LAN parties with friends and get drunk. This matching system gets me a good 60/40 wins and matches are often won or lost with small differences. Matchmaking wise im pretty content.
All classes are playable, some just need nerfs. They gotta nuke the trait which gives warriors movement speed with a melee weapon so they will have to get it from runes, considerable diminishing their firepower. Guardians are just dumb but in no way auto win, they could use a nerf because they’re overused but not because they’re OP. Thief needs tweaks, but I won’t comment on that since I don’t play thief all too well. the perma-evade is just dumb and thieves were already quite good at their role. Necro, mesmer and engineer are actually strong and well balanced. Hell I can even win ranked with core builds.
