Tempest sucks and anet doesn't care
Tempest didn’t got nerfed because of too much dmg + sustain, it got nerfed because of its strong team support, which made it kinda mandatory for a good team composition. And it is still a decent supporter. Unfortunately this role doesn’t work as well in soloQ as it does in coordinated team play and like pretty much all classes ele lacks build/role diversity. So yea, it sucks.
But apparently the game is “perfectly balanced” because all classes are in some way viable. So who cares about diversity? Anet obviously don’t.

This was the July 26th patch notes, the same day “rip ele” was born.
Oh well, i though, the dmg nerfs were only because of PvE, but according to the wording in the patchnotes it actually seems, they considered cleric tempest op dmg wise :p. Didn’t expect that.
The elementalist design, the whole of it…it’s a complete wreckage , it is something that never should have existed in the first place, something that in theory was cool…but ended up being a complete waste of designing time..
Elementalist, is the worst kitten ever.
You can try to be damage dealer zerk, you won’t survive.
If you try to mix damage and survival, you will be useless.
With so much condi cleanse in game, their condi dmg is ridiculously low.
In the same basket as necro; They are free kill.
They have nothing, they are nothing but meaningless

Don’t look to esl, don’t look to it a second more.
It’s a 0,1% of players and it’s a perfectly worked team, with high knowledge of classes, rotation, builds made to fit all the possible different situations of this game and they’re all forced to chose 5 different classes to make they’re teams.
If you look to the past tournaments, you’ll not see a single warrior and only few guardians, but every team have a necro and a ele in they’re ranks.
Let’s nerf ele and necro and buff warrior and guardian!!1!!1!
Actually a good ele can inflict a decent amount of AoE damage, not the best of all but still a good damage (but need to be skilled) and can survive longer than other classes with two immunity skills, a teleport and a 3hit block skill, cleansing conditions all the time (also aoe for allies), spamming boons and surviving bunkering or fleeing, with the best team support build of the moment.
That said, the ele totally lack of a good dps build and go in dps will make it really easy to kill (not like a necro, but still easier than a lot of other classes).
If you want to play a support role in sPvP there’s nothing better than the ele. If you want to play another role, that’s for shure not your choice.
ATM the elementalist isn’t in the worst spot, but in SoloQ is really hard to play because you find unorganized players that fight everyone in his way (not always wrong, simply a different playstyle, but don’t make you coordinated to kill the enemy and hold points) and that make your work really hard.
At the end, in a meta focused on direct damage burst and active defences an elementalist that have only a single viable build, and is a support build, find really hard to survive enough to make his presence useful for his team.
I manifested my disapproval of the elementalist class gameplay destruction by moving on to play other games. ESO, RL and Ow were all really cheap last week and they’ll keep you busy for at least a few months.

TCG won the recent world championship by using a tempest and a reaper as their core.
Tempest is great it simply has no other builds then the auramancer that can be used by the majority of players unless the player far outskills thier opponets. generally speaking the moment u try anything with palladins,or marauders amulets. the ele’s design will show how Reliant it is on healing power and thus amulets indirectly. as it lacks, evades, blocks, invulnerability reliable stunbreaks. The lack of healing power also makes it incredibly weak against conditions due to the lack of small burst heals and passive sustain on account of lack of healing power and base value healing decreased by certain tempest traitline nerfs. Tempest get’s his high sustain from heals but yeah if u run marauder amulet or palladins, say bye bye to a good chunk of sustain not even the signet passive heal per cast can compensate for. so how do u solve these condis? U can run water at the cost of reduced protection application with like 1888 armour? all for some mediocore damage. Another way is running full shouts and earrth traitline for the protection and then use ether renewal with that almost 3 sec cast time. ROTFLMAO XD. all this sacrifice for dps with the only real dps on pair with hot specs bieng the overload air. Also remember still no healing power Even then I wouldn’t call them kitten. Hard to use.
you see, the problem with ele overall is the importance of your self survival. the reason why fresh air ele doesn’t work well is because it lacks survivability and damage. give it survivability and it will turn into a pseudo bruiser. give it enough damage and people will cry because they just cry about anything that kills them.
what ele needs is more damage overall. fresh air ele is supposed to be a burst mage… and yet it hits like a wet noodle. turn it into the highest single target dps glass cannon, the core damage of a team that beeds to be protected that wipes the enemy team. dps ele never had much team utility, so don’t give it any.
on the other hand, if the damage gets a buff the skills need to be give counter play options. delay on scepter air 2 and so on. auto attacks are terrible so they need to be buffed too.
but hey, this will never happen. after all shatterstone didn’t even get a buff last patch :^)

top tier and meta does not equal fun to play. i quit ele when HoT was released because the elite spec is as interesting as a snail, and i had 3000 matches on ele in pvp.
After you have 1000+ matches on ele and especialy used arcane, then you know why many old ele players complain ….
Not sure what the op is talking about. The pvp meta build had it’s damage buffed this patch on top of Mender’s amulet outputting more damage than Cleric’s already.
