Thank you ANET to make pvp boring
I like the “Noob friendly” expression, it’s exactly what they made with this meta.

It cant be that bad. They have a tournament going on right now. Who is gonna fund $10 grand on a busted game?
Just think of condi AoE dmg as regular dmg and your all good.

It is bad, and even people in those top tournament teams have made threads about how horrible and not enjoyable the current aoe condition spam meta is.

No no no it cant be that bad…. Give it a second. The condi spam is just regular skill spams white dmg. Someone is throwing $10 grand at a wall. How can you say this game is not ESPORTS ready lol /troll off
I don’t see why people make such a big deal of this. Direct dmg still outputs a great deal more damage than condi and condi is incredibly slow. I’m new to PvP but I would think the counter-strategy is to CC and burst down.

CC is the answer to everything in gaming.
@transtemporal That is easily countered with More CC and then condi them.

Not sure we are playing the same game.

Power specs are punished with Protection/Retaliation and not enough ways to remove it. Conditions don’t proc retaliation and go through protection, and certain classes have tons of AoE spam conditions (which can even be made unblockable).
And…
Now condition meta.

Not to mention power specs require 3 offensive stats to do anything, while condi builds only require 1. And….condition meta.
Funny. If only people knew Anet’s balance history.
This is the same group that took a moderately balanced GW1 and thought making hexes better and the current meta would only fix the game.
They also thought buffing dervishes and reintroducing them would be healthy.
So now they’re doing similar stuff in GW2.. Go figure.

Forgot lol. Though if power specs didn’t need 3 specs, we might end up with like, a Soldiers Meta. Of course, that’s basically what we have now, just condi damage over power damage…
…huh.
sigh

When you are playng vs Power builds/ classes you are dodging the burst attacks, right ?!
Why can’t you learn to dodge heavy condi attacks ?! xD
Also Condis are making good AoE dmg, but less to a single dmg. So AoE condi skills is OK.
Were it ever be fun for real o-O?

Just nerf burn damage and how condi power affects it and nerf bleeding damage, how condi damage affects is, and how it stacks in intensity. Look we have a semi balanced meta now. But anet wont do it because this is a pve game

And because it would be bad balancing. Tell me, are condition guardians or condition elementalists overpowered? Elementalists especially have access to both burning and bleeding. To you see them rocking the pvp meta? I don’t, neither.
The problem with conditions in this game, and to a lesser extent with boons, is one: spam. Spam, spam, spam. It’s the ability to fill your entire UI with icons with little effort and little to no cost. When you get burning, bleeding, torment, fear and poison all in your bar in a matter of seconds, there’s no strategy, it’s a pure spamfest.
And this issue won’t stop by nerfing necromancers, because it was already a problem before the current meta caricature. It’s an inherent problem with GW2’s combat system, which doesn’t punishes skill spamming enough, and it’s a problem with the trait system, which relies to much on adding even more conditions and even more boons to existing skills or even passively.
They should had a system reducing some durations with spamming, like the stun duration reduction on WoW when too many stuns are used to stunlock.

Exactly. Nerfing any specific profession in this case won’t really solve the problem. It will barely mask it, and that is questionable too.
Much bigger problem is risk-reward ratio.
Let’s you see warrior’s gc builds for example. You have to get into melee range(already a risk), you have to CC someone(ain’t really easy with all of the evades/blinds/blocks/stability) and only then apply damage(cleave, usually hits 1 target only). You are a true glass cannon, meaning you can dish out huge damage, but will explode just as quickly when focused. Every attack can clearly be seen due to clear animations, which means it’s easily avoidable. You also have to watch for retaliation, which means that you won’t really want to use a skill every time it’s not on cd.
Eles are another profession that has clear animations, and same goes for their gc build most eles are currently running.
So, it’s high risk/high reward. Fun to play against each of these professions, and you definitely know you were getting outplayed, not because of the build, but because of player skill.
Now, let’s take a look at necros for example(I also run a necro, along with a warrior, so I’m not really biased). You’ll usually stand on a safe spot if you position yourself good enough, and pretty much press half of the skills that aren’t on cd. The only skills that you could save for some situations are basically condi transfers(staff and oh dagger). You can spam everything else. Marks are AoE, Scepter 2 is AoE, Dagger oh is AoE, you can get epidemic and spread huge amounts of conditions to a whole team and bait their cds just to stay alive. So, you are basically attacking at least half of their team, from a safe distance. Not only that, you aren’t really a glass cannon, meaning you have enough defense to survive for quite a while when getting focused, and you are doing only a bit lower damage than a glass cannon. You are also putting insane pressure on more than one person.
Also, don’t forget huge amount of AoE weakness, thus being even more effective against power builds.
So, there is basically no risk in using almost any skill you have equipped, but there is a high reward. You are both good at damage, defense, and support to a certain extent(if we look on weakness that way).
No amount of condi cleanse is enough to beat 2-3 condi builds in a team. So, you either go condi yourself, or you are basically handicapping your team(unless you are running s/d thief, which is another thing ppl would need to discuss about).
Note, this is not a necro specific problem. I based my arguments on it because that’s profession I’m very familiar with, so I don’t wanna talk nonsense.
Now, before anyone says, “oh, but you can counter a necro with a cc warrior”, think about it a bit. You have to take a SPECIFIC power build, which needs to be in melee range, to counter the other one. Do you have to run a specific build to counter a warrior? Do you have to run a specific build to counter an ele? No, not really. You can beat those with almost any build, as long as you watch for their animations and skill rotations. Not the case with necro.
Same goes for engi/ranger, and so on.
Almost every single competitive team is now running guardian/necro/ranger/s+d thief + x, usually x being an engi, meaning even more condi pressure. For a reason.
