Don’t tell the forums that thief can be anything more than cannon fodder, they’ll want it nerfed.
Heartseeker is still very strong but now requires timing to ensure the kill rather than spamming the skill until one of you are dead.
Heartseeker is currently bugged. Alot of the attacks are missing for no reason. It was hardly even nerfed. It has no noticeable difference to any decent thief using D/D.

HS wasn’t ‘hardly even nerfed’. If you understand simple math it was pretty massively nerfed.
That said, just go play Pistol Whip. As long as they don’t fix the underlying problems (quickness, how initiative works) thieves will always be a really strong, possibly OP, class.

Pistol Whip is clunky and Haste Dependent. Quickness bursting for every class is currently the only flaw in GW2 PvP(Opinion). I use D/D & S/P but I dont use haste. I don’t want to depend on a lawl ability like that one. D/D is working as intended now people need to learn how to use the other 4 buttons in the dagger utility. Then you will realize it is almost same exact thing. Daggers are very situational even before nerf you would get more damage from a 4 then you would a 2. Can hit for 12k with #4. All depends on situations. If you struggle with D/D after nerf you obviously spammed 2 and the nerf found its correct target.

If your entire build and playstyle revolves around one skill than either you need to change your build and playstyle, or the class as a whole is just really broken if you can’t.

That 20% dmg reduction was for players who don’t know how to open up correctly as a thief and just mindlessly spammed 2 from start to finish much needed. Does little for the rest of the thiefs.

I play a thief and I agree with Fury. Personally I don’t use heartseeker anyways unless my target is at minimum below 50% health. There are many better ways to kill a target besides heartseeker spamming.

Fury is 100% correct. It wasn’t Heartseeker that was making Thieves OP. It was just very obvious that the ability was overtuned when any schmuck could spam it and do well. The mechanics of the class are the actual issue.
Being able to stealth and reopen on a target repeatedly is more of a problem than Heartseeker or even Pistol Whip. It’s possible for a Thief to open up with a guaranteed critical, 150% damage Backstab, another guaranteed critical Backstab a few seconds later, then finish you off with a Heartseeker, Pistol Whip, or even a sneeze.
Clever use of dodges, cripples, stuns, and dazes and the Thief can repeatedly Stealth and reopen on you. After you’ve blown your stun breaks, dodges, and blocks, you’re pretty much SOL.

It is no longer a cheap way for bads, or a cheap way to kill bads, by 1 button spam. It is also still a fully functional gap closer, and with the damage you can do on a backstab, just lol at the 9-10k 50% hp sink in one move and HS hasn’t really been nerfed at all has it.

They lowered the damage by 20% on targets above 50% health. I’d say that qualifies as a nerf.
Thiefs still kickkitten steal backstab deathblossom and pistol whip still hit like a truck, use deathblossom to get them below 50% HS hits are no longer nerfed at this point. Im sure thiefs will have further adjustments to come but so will everything. Thiefs are still the main thing i have to look out for when pvping, its the only class that can kill me from 50% hp instantly.

Again, HS was and still is meant to be an execution move scaling with the enemies total hp, before that scale was practically nonexistant with only like a 100-150 damage total difference no matter how high or low the health was. I don’t see a nerf here, I see an ability readjusted to not be lololol faceroll 2 spam and i still win against any new or unskilled player that doesn’t have a clue.

Nope, you can deal decent damage and have high survivability, but you lack the massive crit damage that comes from traiting into the second tree. Smokescreen is a great ability to irritate those pesky hunters and is widely underlooked. Even better to use it when you see that rifle warrior lining up that 8k+ crit killshot.
@Sjach, I dont need crit, I have alot of power, my main damage is 1 and 5 on p/d 1 hits for 450-550 + 800 in bleed at a fast rate, and 5 hits for 1500 + 900 + 3700 in bleed, why do I need crit? and all these conditions I can apply non stop, have fun removing them, and If you get in close I just 3 away, if I want to fight in close, swtich to d/d and watch every 5 inititive drop 4900 in bleed on them,
Works perfectly, until I slap a well down that converts every stack of that bleed into time on regeneration. Bleeds and necros are friends, especially the ones that bleed themselves to bleed you and then use the signet to add the bleed on themselves to your stacks, you stack massive bleeds on a conditionmancer they will throw them back at you, and yes you have ways to remove them but it is a trade CD for CD game after all. Also i wasn’t knocking your build was saying it is actually a good one and you use one of the most useful but rarely seen skills in the PvP environment on a thief.

I also play in a way that panders to condition swap, I save 1 of my 3 condition removers for those things, and I typically will swap to lose a condition in stealth trait if im up against necros as im in stealth 50% of the time.
Indeed, it actually counters a few builds of other classes as well. That how the game was designed, everything has a counter it is just a matter of figuring out what your playing against and utilizing proper team composition and strategy to deal with it. Smokescreen is great though, lovely troll button for when those rangers come a quick firing lol, and like i said, when that rifle war wants to fire off a kill shot.

Im a ranger and I almost never have outstanding issues with thieves. Do I need a nerf?

This. I’ve already been playing Stealth/Backstab, Conditions, or S/P Pistol Whip Thief. Heartseeker? …Lol HS. Dont care about that. As long as it’s still a strong execute when the QQnewbs are trying to run away, that’s all I used it for.
IF you where using heartseeker as your main dmging attack you would be upset about this change. IF you where a good thief and only properly using heartseeker this change doesn’t bother you.

It’s a shame when any class you’re playing doesn’t get nerfed. I used heartseeker when I first started doing sPvP when the game was just launched, and quit using it at rank 2. Anyway, I mainly play my thief in PvE now and if they plan to continue to nerf skills it just won’t be fun. It doesn’t matter if thief is “OP” in PvE because who really cares.
I agree heartseeker spam is ridiculous and something had to happen but it’s really lame when the class you’ve invested hundreds of hours of time in becomes useless (assuming they will continue to nerf)
