I just spent a day pvping in warfronts in another mmo that went F2P this year.

Following that experience, I want to say thank you to the developers of GW2. Thank you for getting rid of healers, thank you for making an action combat game, thank you for the great maps, the wonderful animations, the class balance, the gear normalization.

I stopped playing GW2 because you only have one game mode-conquest- and after 6 months or so of playing every day since launch it just got boring doing conquest over an over.

I have searched high and low for another game with good pvp for several months, -even going back to above mentioned mmo for a day, but GW2 just trumps them all in one way or another.

So thanks, and please, please, consider putting in some more spvp game modes. No matter how delicious something may be, you get sick of it if you have to eat the same thing everyday.

Thank you

One of the sad things is, Gw2 is filled with QoL features, that people can’t appreciate when they’re playing, and only notice when they’re not.

Personally, I think adopting TF2’s 5 point linear capture mode would greatly improve Gw2’s PvP

That’s the only reason GW2 has a PvP population… there is no other decent PvP MMO out there atm short of kitten like WoW.

Phasing out healers… its probably a bit of a plus, IF they do more than just dump healers.
GW2 didn’t so its definitely a negative, their ‘no healer setup’ neglects teamwork… they didn’t put in anything to compensate for tossing healers and tanks… healers were a staple of the genre for a reason, they were a super simple concept that got people working together and playing entirely as a team…
Allot of people love that.

I’m not saying healers are ideal… I’m more a fan of getting rid of dedicated healers , but still, healers fill a role MMO PvP benefits from. Tossing the role, not the means to it won’t help a game in the slightest.

If GW2 did something like… make combo fields into a legitimate thing, I don’t mean combo fields as they are right now, but combo fields as an extra ‘utility slot’ type skill every player had. With one button you could place a type of combo field through some maneuver and the field gives strong buffs/debuffs for combo’ing abilities through it. Then combo’ing skills were a lil more consistently on weapon sets… that could be a working replacement.

I guess all we need from the Devs is that they tell us; “New modes are coming” and then we’d all be like “AAARARRGGG!!!! BRAINGASM

Until that day though, let’s all keep asking.

Yep it’s true, and it’s what I keep saying.. to my friends and also to myself… Even tho there are sooo many things that make me rage over GW2 pvp, it’s still the only MMORPG out there on the market, that has structured pvp worth mentioning. If you put GW1 aside that is, which is still my favourite MMORPG pvp game ever. But I’ve spent about 3500 hours in GW1, most of that time playing GvG, great memories, I want to keep them that way.

Now I’m here, just hoping GW2 spvp slowly evolves and grows into something bigger, better. It’s ok, it’s better than anything else atm, but it could be so much more…

GW2 will still be the same game…

People say ‘we need new game modes, having 1 in a game sucks!!’
But… most every MMO has revolved around 1~ style of combat with different side objectives and layouts of the map… all in all the game usually always ends with the same style of combat.

In GW2 though, I mean, yeah this conquest isn’t a good mode, and its odd enough to cause the game’s balance to be awkward enough to make just dropping in new game-modes to be a lil tough . Anyways, on point, the issue though that even if you found the best map for the game, it would still not be great… a game could easily get away with this conquest as its core map style if the combat was well made and so engaging to the players… don’t get me wrong conquest does GW2 no favors but it isn’t unworkable… like the current combat setup.
There’s a reason every esports team left within a few months and for the most part the 3mil people who bought the game too… synced through all NA que times still typically go over 10 mins short of during prime time… that’s CRAZY.

Anyways allot of the map complaints just seem like, no offense, but people unhappy with the game and blaming the first thing that comes to mind… and thats ‘one map style’…

Anyways, I could be wrong, but I can only see a new modes, at best giving most people a few weeks of ‘this is nifty!!’ before it wears out and people start complaining just like before… because the combat itself just isn’t engaging.

@garethh.3518, yes what you say is likely true, the idea about fields sounds interesting. However, going back to other mmos I just realized how much I hate healers in pvp. I think it was a big reason I left that particular game, even though I went god mode and rolled a healer myself at one point. I actually did find a couple of games where the healers weren’t completely OP in my time away from GW2, but those games had other downsides.

Also, you talk about kitten combat etc in GW2, well that might be because you haven’t played other mmos for a while. While I was playing this other mmo yesterday I was just laughing to myself about the complaints about balance on the GW2 forums, or even such comments about the pvp lacking teamwork etc. Its in a completely different league.

None of the games I played sucked, except perhaps DFUW, but the differences are vast. I could analyse point by point why GW2 is so much better, but that would be boring and tedious to read through. The main things that struck home were, thank god the OP healers are gone and wow its so nice to be able to see all the animations and not have to be squinting at the UI to play the game (GW2).

As for game modes, it does make a big difference. Indeed, there was one game I went back to that had added a new pvp game mode, and it made the game completely different (better). People are always going to complain, but that is no reason to stop making improvements. Even smite has several gamemodes and that’s a moba…..

@gareth

I would argue that one game mode is important. And sure, you can turn conquest into a FUN game mode, conquest by definition won’t ever in any game of this genre be a even half mediocre game mode.

GW2 has one thing going for it. Excellent mechanics. I absolutely love the GW2 mechanics, many of them are brilliant. However, they dropped the ball on soooo much that to say one thing would fix everything is simply wrong. They could re-balance the game to have a better support, but it still wouldn’t be competitive because of conquest. And of course, changing it from conquest to anything else wouldn’t be sufficient either.

Frankly, they need a gamemode that promotes team play and they need roles that can actually interact within a team.

BTW.. while im on this rant, improving rewards won’t do kitten to improve competition. Just sayin, I think I see one post a week where everyone says “BETTER REWARDS PLEASE.” That should be the last thing on your list of improvements, give me a good game first.

Well, despite the criticism, I find that there are roles in GW2 spvp, and that good teamwork is required to be successful. Other mmo spvp is just boring in comparison for various reasons.

The only thing I actually dislike in GW2 pvp is that asura are too small which make their animations difficult to read. That’s a very small issue compared to what I have experienced in my return to and test of various other mmo spvp recently.

To attract a casual player base and have longer player retention I think more game modes are needed. Sure there are tweaks that could be made, but overall its awesome and far better than anything I have seen in the last few months.

Well its basically F2P for me, but I’m sure if the spvp part was just a free download more people would play, it works well for LoL.

However, it is posts like this that highlight exactly how different and good GW2 spvp is. Posters on these forums often say GW2 is bad because it doesn’t have many streamers, or say it in a positive way like you have, but still essentially judging the spvp by number of streamers/views.

How many people are watching Rift, Tera, or NW spvp streams? Do they even have active spvp streamers? One thing is for sure, people don’t even talk about twitch/streaming on the forums of those games, haha.

That’s what I mean about this game being on a completely different level to other mmos. The community here seems to want the game to be an esport like LoL, and I hope it does get that successful/popular. But for a casual gamer like me, I just get completely frustrated when I go play another mmo and have to deal with the mediocre game play/mechanics compared to GW2, but at the same time I get bored with just doing conquest over and over.

As someone who is generally interested in games that are played competitively, I can tell you that the biggest problem of GW2 can only be fixed by the community. And it is pretty simple: We just have to play the game.
What I mean is, there is depth in this game, that needs to be explored. I know this is not a popular opinion in this circlejerk cesspool of a forum, but I hope that a generally positive thread like this doesn’t attract these people.

Something like dedicated healer classes for me are just band-aid fixes to force teamwork. The strategic depth of such a game gets shoved in your face. Other than riding the mechanics of the game, there is innovation to be had in GW2.
Many people, especially on these forums, are denying this, because of serious overestimation. They think they are good at this game and they are, but only relatively. Imagine how good they will be in a few years. And I guarantee you, this game will be played completely different from now, even if Anet would have stopped patching.
Many people will have experienced this phenomenon with Street Fighter. The game you played, when you first picked it up is completely different from the game the FGC plays that got decades of knowledge. A more recent example is SC2: Watch a game of the first season of GSL and compare it to a game of the latest season of WCS.

To illustrate my point: Combo fields are not useless now, because they are generally weak. They are useless now, because you only have to have an edge over your opponent that is big enough for your team to win. But if we keep playing this game, we will have to find our edge elsewhere. To win one team has to pull more clutch plays than the other.
We admire Teldos twitch reactions now, but imagine the display of muscle memory and team coordination there would be, if Koreans would pick up this game and play it twelve hours a day in their PC bangs.

Conquest won’t make an esports or top notch quality game mode, by any means.
But I’d happily widdle away my time playing the game with conquest as a map, if the combat was very well made around it.

It won’t make a GW1, but it could be a pale version of its predecessor, that’s the least anyone has asked for and the bare minimum I wanted from the game.
Conquest can work for that.

Back point bunker is a gay position.
The actual strats tend to be depressingly simplistic.
Large issues, but things I personally could cope with.

And yeah, I find the reward system hilariously bad.
Like the worst I have EVER seen, they could have kittening just givin 1/100th~ of the netted glory from chests after salvaging and 0-2 pieces of gear; then made all gear cost glory, the higher up ones took much more to buy, and they had a money->glory exchange…
Bam.
They would have actually made money off of PvP instead of throwing away hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars because PvP players couldn’t give money to the guys even if they wanted to…

@yasha
Maybe I’m biased.
I mained a healer in allot of MMOs.

Anyways, we all have different opinions.
I found most token MMOs much more engaging to play than GW2. GW2 had many innovations and good core ideas, just the execution… all in all… I got bored of it leaps and bounds faster than any MMO I have ever played… even Rift and I started getting bored of Rift after hitting level cap (it was a really fun game before that though).
