Well pretty simple actually: for 4 pips you actually need to win games, meaning your win ratio is probably above 50% so matchmaking will make sure you will lose next games (unless unexpected happens).

When you get to four pips take a break, usually a half a hour. That sometimes helps. Don’t know why though.

I just plated a match were we had a 4 blues and a green and the other team had 4 blues and a red….

I agree that there is some sort of curse for the 4th pip. Back when i was in emerald and sapphire I always reached 4 pips with ease, but I ended up losing that 4th pip at least once every single time (I can’t remember a single instance in which I got it first time). To me, it’s just about keeping trying and you’ll get it eventually. Yes you may have to endure streaks of losing 20 out of 21 games which happened to me once, but if you play enough games you will get to ruby eventually.
Really, I think the issue with the league system is that 99% of games in solo queue are basically a coin flip and the game is decided before it even begins due to the skill of your teammates but you will get lucky with that last pip in the end.

ruby players aren’t a thing… diamond either… there’s a lot of dumb player in both leagues….
For now … i’m feeling leagues doesn’t mean anything… Look at me , I’m almost diamond LeL (and loosing 2 pips for a game I was supposed to win but i didn’t cause AFK ppl)

Not this again… That’s not how odds of victory work! Let’s say, Bahir, that you have been playing for a while (which you have, since you are in saphire). Your MMR is now pretty stable. The system will try to find games where you have approximately 50% chance of winning. If you win four in a row by chance (lucky with comps/team mates), your MMR will rise, but just a tiny tiny bit, so assuming your MMR before the four games was correct, you will have something like 45-48% chance of winning your fifth game. You are just unlucky.
The problem you’re experiencing is that when you are in a league with people around your skill level, you need to rely on luck to progress. I would advise you to just play for fun, think about how you can improve your gameplay and rotations, and you’ll make it to ruby eventually. Good luck!

HAHA GG premade fail. Happened to me last night in Temple map. We were full solo queuers vs a premade. The Match Making system must have thought we should lose because i got 2 pips (and a tier) from beating that team.

That’s pretty much every game close you get to moving on to something the higher the screw ups will occur….

If you win a couple of games your MMR starts to spike, but not high enough to be grouped with higher MMR players, insted, the game wants you to carry low MMR players in your division because they need to be carried to advance. This usualy results in a loss because 1 player can’t carry a whole team. For some reason you get punished by this loss with a low MMR spike, grouping you with low MMR players the next couple of matches causing more losses, thus lowering your MMR. This loop continues untill you lost all your pips and then some, and then the game thinks your the one that needs to get carried so you get high MMR player to carry you, you start winning a couple of matches again, and then see beginning of this post. I’ve gone trough this cycle a couple of times now and I don’t care about winning anymore, just having fun with weird builds Ive made up to see if they work.
I always suggest after 2-3 wins, that you take at least a 10 minute break. This will allow all the people who just que to reque and you do not get stuck with them.
MMr pushes you into either force win or force loss to keep your ratio at 50%
Because it makes so much sense to play russian roulette with even less chance at winning and even going as far as punishing you for win streak.. Anet shouldn’t simply have copied league system from Lol, should have taken their algorithm too at least…

It seems like every time I have 4 pips in a tier I’m matched against a pre-made group or the opposing team has 2 or 3 Ruby players on their side.
Is this 4th pip cursed or is there something I don’t understand about this crazy match making system?

I had issues with the last division of sapphire too even though I got through ruby quickly.
I believe the problem is because you are being matched with 0 pip ruby players that grinded there and don’t really belong there skill-wise and/or trying to get the profession achievements done on classes they don’t play since they can’t drop down to sapphire.
Well I finally got to the 5th tier of blue! I was so excited I think I peed a little…
Then I go and win one game, lose the next, win the next. The team we were against was all Ruby, while we were 2 Ruby and 3 Blue. We spanked them and only got one pip. Shouldn’t we have gotten 2?
