Ok, lets face it: the dream of “esports,” though long dead, will never be achieved with the current client and ANet’s sorry excuse for tournament advertising.

If instead we had a client that inherently promoted events, they would all get much much more exposure and the scene would actually grow.

Nobody gives a crap about the medals and achievements; not even PvE nerds.

And please, why not add chat window in character select? Sometimes we want to idle or AFK but still be reachable by our gw2 buddies without having to render all the engis spamming nades in our face while we’re trying to watch netflix.

Let me be the first to say this would be great for chatting with people that are sitting on the same screen. Not 100% sure why but I personally have a large amount of friends that hang out in character select for extended amounts of time. I would like this feature so I can tell them to log in already! lol

The problem with putting it IG, is that it would need to be retrievable from a tab (probably the PvP tab), it wouldn’t be accessible on the main UI for clutter reasons (although an alert in chat is something else that would be nice).

The prime target for this information arn’t the people that already PvP frequently, but the large amount of players totally unaware of the scene.

By putting it in the login screen, it won’t clutter their game whilst still informing people of the events without them needing to ‘seek out’ the information.

Ugh still in office mode, need to go home and play some video games……..

Yes please! Ingame it would either go unnoticed or take up space and be annoying, character screen would not bother anyone and still get lots of attention from pve or even pvp folks who don’t follow social media/forums.
I think it’ll get more attention than the launcher. The launcher is too small and personally i spend more time on the character screen than watching the launcher (first cause the launcher does everything automatically and second because of guesting server shenanigans)

Personally I use the launcher a lot to get news for the game. I think adding PvP News in character screen would be a nice idea. Maybe add tournament rankings (during tournaments) etc…

The launcher info is very easy to skip through for 2 reasons.

• Auto-login function
• Text only info is very dull.

If our launcher was anything like the Chinese launcher, I think pvp would be getting a lot more exposure.

I personnaly think that the great trouble for gw2 to get up their esport is the com’ u have to improve this soooo much guys.

Just for this last ToG and W.T.S. they are soooo² many peoples who don’t know anything about what’s happening in spvp.

to make a game with a great esport we have to make a game with a great community behind and a good com’ will do that… So please gw2, do what it must be done, for all of use who are playing in the top, please improve the quality of the com’ and it will fixe in the same time a lot of trouble about spvp.

I’m kind of shocked anet didn’t implement this from the beginning. Like those “500” viewer tournaments can turn into 1000 viewers or more with just an in game message when a tourny is about to start.

what about using the ingame mail system to notify players that there is an ongoing tournament? Similar system could be used to promote special events in WvW or PvE too.
Then give us an option under the option menu to disable PvP, WvW or PvE event notifications separately.

Im sure such a system would not be THAT hard to implement since you already got 75% of the ground work done.

I’ve never played gw1 so this was good for me to see.

I really wonder why they don’t have it in gw2…

The only reason why it might not have it, is because ArenaNet thinks were to stupid to use it….

Look at the new lvling system. It is all about being to dumb die/dodge/ress/switchweapons etc etc….

So is that what they think in general of their players? give them less options so they can’t make mistakes?

Personal opinion…the people that don’t PvP now aren’t going to be interested in PvP at all…aka, those that are aware are already doing it, those that are unaware aren’t interested. That’s my personal opinion.

GW2 actually has the infrastructure to support in-game streams but it will never get implemented cue bureaucratic excuses here, devs.

I’d be satisfied with just pictures and links, something more than the bland text.

And your c/p of in-game chat window isn’t really relevant in character screen. I was going more for the equivalent of a whisper window, so you can still chat with friends (maybe guild chat too?)

my chat window does have whisper window, just too many tabs it got tucked into the arrow expander.

btw, if you want to AFK and render way less cr@p, use MSI afterburner and limit to 1FPS. (ingame option only allow 30 or 60) Then look straight up in the sky or at a wall. Save tons on electricity bill esp if you have a beefy GFX producing heat.

I just want a “create PvP character” button, that creates a character that skips all the introductory cutscenes, story, tutorials, everything, and starts you instantly in PvP.
