What you expect him to just give away the chance of earning 200K? Imagine the current meta with minstrel ammy. I don’t like the way they have used the guild team in the guild challenger league or the devs being so close to the team (Althogh thats an anet problem not an Abjured problem) but the fact that they are so far resisting the current meta successfully is to be lauded and a testament to their skill.

Idk, it seems more like he just wants to get more bunker builds nerfed to me. My guess is that they’ll try to make bunkers seem so OP that anet nerfs them to the ground so they can go back on their zerkers and faceroll again.

It isn’t ironic though, Abjured would have played Minstrels too if it helped them win, even if they didn’t like it.

The people in pro leagues are there to win matches and money, not to play honourably. It’s Arenanet’s job to fix the game, which they apparently aren’t going to do.

So what is your point?

Minstrel amulet was bad for the game, that has no relevance to abjured trying a bunker comp. It’s not even the amulet people are complaining about, its the chrono bunker which is based around evades which is stupid because evades are invulnerbailities. A bunker based around blocks and other mechanics that are NOT invuln is a great idea, such as bunker gaurd or ele.

You’re just being super salty about minstrel amulet being gone because chaith had something to do with it. Seriously don’t post these threads, they are going to take up the time of devs who can be reading something that’s actually progressive.

As with all competitive teams you must run what’s optimal.In some cases you can run what you main/enjoy and it’s possible to outplay it.but in the cases of condi rev/bunker chrono, It leaves little room for any customization.
The competitive nature of this game died with hot.

Wouldn’t the Minstrel ammy make the unwatchable meta matches even more so? The current meta is already unhealthy.

Teams are considering replacing reapers, DH, druids in favor of stronger bunkers.

These top teams are professional players. They play the game to win, not for fun. You can even go as far as to say that they only play for fun during their twitch sessions, since there’s nothing on the line there. Trying to call him out as a hypocrite because the pressure placed on him and his team to preform and adapting isn’t fair, tbh. Top players in every sport can and do abuse every single edge they can get their hands on to get ahead. This, I believe, is a sign of humility. They recognize that gimping themselves against their opponents isn’t a viable strategy since one person/group can only be so much better than their opposition in a certain area of play before it comes back to completely rip them to shreds.

Honestly, I’m not too surprised.

Pro player says “Sorry but our favourites suck right now so we’re going to practice with what IS good” and people make an outcry about the player. What?!

I don’t see the irony; he says the bunker meta has lowered the skillcap of the game and made several classes/builds basically redundant, but his team has no choice but to follow this meta since it is so strong.

The only thing is that I think balancing is going in the wrong direction: put simply some bunkers do too much damage/ have too much cc/ mobility, there are way too many powerful auto-procs in the game, and aoe is too prevalent/rewarding.

Chaithh spoke against Minstrel’s after it was already removed. You’re asking us to remember something that didn’t happen, Yeti.

Looking at their development across all game modes I doubt they listen to anyone at all.

Looks like forum ppl suffer from amnesia. He specifically used EU as an example and said scrims in EU had timers ran out, which is why he was against bunker builds. I bet he’s glad he got that thread deleted.

upper management or there publishers/ investors . we don’t really know atm. we can make a guess when blade and soul comes out though as they will have the same publisher.

Look up some glass door reviews, while some of them might be “disgruntled employee’s” the theme of there statement’s pretty much remains the same.

The best players in this game despise the balance that’s led to the current meta…. How much money is on the line for ESL Pro League?!? ArenaNet can you now see just how horrible of a job you have done? The community wants blood. I’ve never seen anything like this. Mike O’Brien would you please stand up for the gaming community instead of protecting your employees? Would you please publicly call out those internally who caused this disaster (IMO their careers should be done), terminate them, apologize to the community as a whole then kill the current ranked season. Give us a do-over when you have things sorted out. It’s the right thing to do. Will you be cowards or will you stand up for the integrity of your product and end this madness?

I honestly believe most of ArenaNet roams around the office thinking “it’s just a game” not realizing when you have $200k on the line for some it’s very much not “just a game” it’s an e-sport which takes it to a different level. It’s clear as a company ArenaNet’s perspective on their product is nat mature enough to cope with it as needed.

Disgusted and disappointed in how this season has turned out. Contemplate leaving the game every time I sign in. I don’t leave because I still love the game and have faith someone at the top will hear the community and take action.

I don’t think they need to fire people, they just need to start actually balancing the game. I, and many others, was originally excited for ladders because it gave a good mechanism for progression and potentially more competition.

However, now I hate seasons because it means they won’t balance a game that is in DESPERATE need of fixing. It was a HUGE mistake to not balance before the season, but stubbornly “sticking your guns” is just doing more harm than good, at this point. It is ok if you make a mistake, just own up to it, communicate your plan to fix it, and go about actually fixing it.

Or, just ignore everything and let the pvp community die like it did after dhuumfire. As Einstein said: “Geniuses learn from others’ mistakes, smart people learn from their own mistakes, and idiots keep repeating the same mistakes.” I think we know which group Anet falls into.

He’s not going to sacrifice his competitive position by not using a build he’s unhappy with. Chaith is just keeping it real. Not sure what OP is trying to start here.

It’s not just $200,000. You have to add in promotional costs, administration costs etc. It’s probably more like $300,000. OR. the money comes from the pockets of the sponsors. One things for sure, their lack of response is also costing them brand value depreciation.

Whoever is financing the cash prize just flushed money down the toilet. They probably would get more relevant views if they spent that money on a billboard in West Virginia.

If the money is coming from anet then they would be more punitive towards the behavior of the pro teams and would have balanced this garbage meta sooner.

Its like they threw away the pvp mode of their game and hard focused on pve coz that’s where the $$$ is

The amulet was never a real issue he just saw it as potential issue and acted in his best interest which was to try to get it removed. Same thing with embracing more bunkerish comps. These people don’t care what’s best for this game but what is best for themselves. To be fair that’s how most people are including myself.

I remember that episode a while back. I think a lot of people were against mistrels too. At the same time, some were also in favor of it.

Metrics. Data.

Developers basically have a model for what a perfectly balanced version of the game looks like. Things get nerfed when they deviate too far from this model.
Minstrel was likely removed because they have a target goal for how long fights should last and they believed that minstrel was causing matches to exceed that target.

They still monitor player feedback, but they aren’t going to do anything about it unless the hard numbers support what the players say,, since taking what player’s say on blind faith is foolish.

I cant believe everyone is shocked at the current state of balance. You are all deluded. You realise this is the company who tried to nerf celestial amulet but got the math wrong and buffed it instead right? You realise this is the company who try to nerf the best specs such as hambow or dd ele in the past and buffed it by mistake right? It’s called having a brain and being able to comprehend simple logic instead of formulating conspiracy theories to suit your needs. But hey, no worries, I understand, it’s not something you are ever capable of.

I have no idea why people were/are so mad about that amulet being removed. The meta now is pretty much bunker everything, and it could be so much worse if it was still in the game.

Conquest will always tend towards bunker/CC specs if you let it because the objective of the game is to hold a point, not to fight the other team. Giving too much power to bunkers slows the game down to a crawl while teams slap and push each other off points to win.

I try to be optimistic but it still wouldn’t change how unenjoyable I find this bunker meta to be. Everything just drags on and instead of having fun, matches feel similar to doing tedious chores.

People back then complained about the removal because they didn’t anticipate the dead end we have going on right now. It was a good call getting it removed early.
