The Only Reward that Matters
I like getting loot. That’s important to me
what keeps pvp players motivated:
skins
titles
finishers
everything that shows skill and dedication
matchmaking is supposed to make things challenging, it should prevent frustrating matchups.
both things are important. leagues are supposed to fix all of that. let’s wait and see, it’s only 2 more weeks anyway.
personally for me rewards are way more important tbh.
^this. sPvP is fun and all, but I’m >10 games away from dragon rank and legendary champ. Once I get that, I’m out until they make major changes to balance. Proper matchmaking is nice, but class balance is what matter more in the long run. Besides, if you’re dedicated enough, you should be able to reach a point where skill levels won’t matter because they’d always be equal or lesser than you.
In order to create a decent matchmaking tool you need to have a build rating tool so that the system can determine “how meta” your current build is and match you with people using similar level of brokenness type builds because no, the problem isn’t skill gap the problem is build gap.
New F2p players have fun testing builds,
most if not all old players using metabattle builds only.
I think we all know how broken metabuilds are.

So people using totally different builds from the meta get to farm scrubs all day? That’s no fun.
Putting players in predetermined win/loss streaks when solo queueing is a bit cruel. If that gets eliminated and at the same time get an overall improvement in matches, no other reward can make me happier.
But it doesn’t do this…

There are many threads about frustrated people that went through long streaks of losses. Some upto 14 in a row. Do you think that’s just coincidental? Or theyre just really really bad and deserved to lose?
Anet’s stated that the algorithm doesn’t do that. I’ve never experienced it myself. With the number of people who play the game, it’s bound to come up somewhat frequently, because, yes, I think a lot of people are way worse than they think they are. You just don’t hear people complaining about the win streaks.

The motivational drivers we have as to why we participate in pvp differs from person to person. For some, winning a few hard fought matches is rewarding in itself. Others enjoy receiving incentives.
There are no incorrect opinions when it come to this. I understand everyone perspective.
Me personally, I enjoy winning a few matches and calling it a night.
I don’t care for skins or appearance coz I let my characters go. Besides, I don’t think they mind looking like slobs.

Some of these guys are transparent and would display both the winning and losing streaks – It makes their case stronger because of how freakish it is. It could also only be a solo q problem. All I know is that I don’t take winning/losing too seriously as long as I get my lewtz lol
I agree. The primary reward for playing a game should be the enjoyment of the actual playing. Otherwise, what’s the point? When it’s fair, the pvp is of this game is a ton of fun and the simple enjoyment of playing is my primary motivation for taking part in it. Matchmaking as of late, has been consistently hampering this for me.
I’m probably being childish but, to me, the only reward that matters is something that tells that me > everyone else
Yeah I know, I have some issues.
@cakeonroof It doesn’t matter if the people who come to the forums kittening about their loss streaks are honest about the wins, too. The point is that the statistical anomalies are going to want to complain on the forums if they’re on the negative side, but the positive ones will not.

It’s definitive that matchmaking was flawed and dysfunctional. In fact the term Evan used was “bugged”
He announced that they’ve discovered the problems and an update with a fix will follow. Update took place a couple days before BW3 and a lot of us here saw an improvement in matches.

A day after the weekend, it just felt like matchmaking reverted to its former self when we were placed in winning and losing streaks.
This could be a solo queue problem so it’s fine if you can’t relate
Titles and all are nice but I’ve probably made it to R80 3-4 times over on this account and have every champ title except thief. These don’t mean all that much to me and the reason I pvp lots is because I enjoy the rush from close matches even if I don’t get them as often as I’d like.

Yeah I know, I have some issues.
OMG that’s how I am!!!
I don’t care if I have issues as long as I’m taller, thinner, and better looking than y’all. lmao.
I just hate losing especially when I’ve contributed much more than my share. I’d hustle, push and even win outnumbered fights. Meanwhile, teammates are either double/triple capping, chasing a thief or Mesmer, getting wiped in combat or just simply not knowing what to do. In a losing streak, these are the most common scenarios. In a winning streak, our pug team plays like a premade. I’d be happy being somewhere in the middle.
If all else fails, just play burn guard
